I'm quite new to weaving, but thought I could mention two Norwegian wools I've tried so far if anyone is interested.. With a long tradition of tablet weaving we have yarns of fairly good quality. Some shedding of fibre, but no breakage using 10/2 and 8,5/2 yarns. As YT isn't fond of links (which I remembered after posting my first long post that didn't show up... sigh), I'll put down the names for googling; including the few stores I found that carries the brands. Not the specific types I've used, but perhaps they can get them? But what is available might be suitable for weaving, I'm not sure. First is Huldra from Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk. I've found three stores in North America who has this brand: Norsk Fjord Fiber in the US, they have one tapestry yarn. The Knitting Loft in Canada carries 4 types, some I know is used for weaving. Wet Coast Wools also in Canada has 8 types. The second is Røros brodérgarn, which is for embroidery and weaving from Rauma Garn. Wall of Yarn is the only US shop I could find who carries the brand.

So good to see a new video. Gosh I loooove your monster loom. But I am on a getting rid of stash/ projects bender. I’m not allowed to start something new until all my UFO’s are not UF’s anymore🤪
I love all of the info you give in your videos, and in your blog posts, and indeed in the description field! Seeing your video today reminds me that I must warp something up to enter in our state fair - I have to decide what that is going to be this time! Thanks for the inspiration.
I hope you are doing alright. I made my first card weaving only six cards. It’s a start but I have learned from you. It’s such a nice rabbit hole. Just been thinking of you
Oh boy, oh boy! Not to mention hot diggety dog! Monday morning with Elewys and coffee, and a chance to work on my fledgling skills! Did i mention hot diggety dog?
Thank you for sharing your latest creation. One of these days I'll get brave enough to work with silk. For now, I'm going to try this weave in linen. Looking forward to trying this out once I get my loom freed up from my current project.
Im from México. Ty for showing me to sew holding the yarn on a chair, its incredible idea. I madre long time ago a loom, but the yarn twisted, and i Hot buried to untwisted. Now ill try the chair. Tks a lot
brilliant idea to number the cards on the backsides! i need to do this too, it will make for much faster weaving for sure! the silk threads are so pretty! maybe some day i'll splurge on some silk thread to weave with so i can make smaller, finer weaves.
I really only grew a 4 x 6 box of wheat this year, plus the usual strawberries. I was gone for several weeks this summer, so I lost a few herbs. :( It looks like my thyme might spring back, though.
I do not weave, but I do love watching/listening to your videos. You always tempt me to try this out, but I already have so much on my crafting plate - I don't know how I could squeeze in yet another craft. (Art, your work is lovely) I am curious - are you able to memorize your patterns after a few repeats or do you have to consult your pattern for the entire weaving? I can memorize much of my work (knitting/quilting), but not a 30+ row design! Again, beautiful work, thank you for sharing.
Magic. But seriously, I know a weaver who just knows which cards to turn to get the correct color to the surface and he weaves rather intuitively. I can't do that. I need a pattern.
So I tried some tablet waving like 4 years ago. Everything seemed to be going smoothly until knots started forming on the other side of the cards. Not the side with the pattern. But above where the cards are turning. I got a good run of about 8 inches or so. But after all the time for setup and that happening I felt completely defeated. You make it look easy! I hope to one day attempt again, its pretty awesome seeing those turns transform into a pattern. Just gotta figure out how to keep it knotting up behind the cards.
That happens as twist builds up; you can look for a "twist neutral" pattern, periodically untie your cords and untwist them, or use fishing swivels. Check out Elewys' first videos in this series
Hi Elewys! I tend to be a fly on the wall but I do enjoy your videos. My stack of tablet woven bands is small but growing. :) Quick question, if I may: I am always tempted to get involved in the SCA, because so many of my interests intersect, but then I go to an event and become overwhelmed by the heraldry, class structure, and ritual (how will I remember all of it? How will I know who to curtsey to?). I just want to wear a late Saxon dress and spin and talk hearth cooking. How do you keep it all straight? And is it possible to participate without really doing too much of the court stuff? Thanks so much!
Absolutely! You can participate as much or as little as you like. Reach out to your local chatelaine to learn the customs of your kingdom--there are differences from one to the next--and look into cooking and weaving guilds in your area. You will find many like-minded folks to chat with.
Hi :-) I've just started weaving on an inkle loom and I love your channel. I wondered if you had any particularly good sources for patterns that you would recommend. I want to make ribbon from the 1700s for a friend who is dressing in 18th century inspired clothing, but have not been especially successful with google in finding patterns from that period. Nga mihi, C.
Tablet weaving and inkle weaving kind of fell out of fashion around the 14th or 15th century, which was replaced by lace and embroidery. Some of the Baltic and Scandinavian countries continued to use it in their folk costumes, so that would be a place to look for inspiration. Good luck!
@@elewysoffinchingefeld3066 Thank you. I did wonder that, also if new technologies came along and replaced it. I've just had my first major failure with tablets... Not sure what went wrong :-( But I cut it off and am starting again a bit shorter. And while trying to fix it I saw your video with the laurel leaves and noticed your mention of the nebuliser. I have one of those too! My eldest. Just got trikafta available in NZ in April this year. Life got a whole lot better! xC
I'm sure this is answered somewhere else but what is the function pencil for in the holes and when/how to use it? If you already put it in a video, could you link to it? Thanks❤
When you work a skip-hole pattern, the cards tend to slip into a 'neutral' position, which closes the shed. The pencil holds those cards in place while you pass the shuttle.
I'm really new to tablet weaving and am having trouble with one of my weaves. I use the Tablet Weaving Draft Designer and it looks correct there but when I actually weave the pattern, it's not exactly the same. Is there some way you could help me figure out what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!
There are several ways that things may have gone wrong. S and Z threading, facing the cards the wrong way, or turning cards the wrong direction. Double check each of these to confirm
I purchased a beautiful made-to-order standing inkle loom from Spriggs Creations (Etsy) at Christmas. I have not used it yet, being a little unsure about switching from a table inkle loom to a floor inkle loom. I had thought about sitting in a chair to use it, though it looks like you are standing up to weave on yours. Do you find this to be the most comfortable way? Is there a history behind these monster looms or are they just modern adaptations of the smaller ones?
I think it's Leclerc offers a combination giant inkle loom and warping frame that I thought about buying. I thought yeah and then I know exactly what will happen: you'll get it fully set up with a humongous unfinished inkle project and can't use the warping frame feature to dress the floor loom. 🤣
so, so this tablet weaving project is beautiful and good, but there are only 1 - 17 four hole weaving tablets, toghether also only 68 threads, my actuall new tablet weaving project is more beatiful and more spectacullar: 1 - 54 six hole weaving tablets, I have 324 threads to do what I want
Bigger isn't necessarily better you know. Complexity is also relative, and not necessary to a beautiful end result, tho I'm sure both projects are going to be lovely.
I love the cockatiels in the background
Wake-up early, no work today (ANZAC Day, Lest we forget) and… yay new Elewys video!! Warm up with a cup (yes, Earl Gray) and settling in to watch.
Oh! I have a recipe for Anzac biscuits! I need to make some

Good to see you! How is your husband doing?
Stable but not out of the woods.
Your ‘trick’ with leaving a loop of the weft and then pulling it taut on the next pick has done wonders for my edges.
Thank you for that!
