- BEFORE YOU ASK, NO I'M NOT GONNA DO THE ENTIRE SOUNDTRACK
Ok the title might not be 100% accurate, i can't say for sure the kick and crash cymbal used are the same, but they sounded close enough.
While working on another project and digging through samples I came across the unmistakable sound of the bongo from Chaotix. I kept looking through sound banks and found that most samples come from the Yamaha RX5 and the Korg X5. I've still yet to source out the toms, the timpani sound, the second kick and second snare (the ones not used in this video)
If you have any clue what library it might reside in let me know.
12k of you also had to watch me moan about a lame boss fight the entire time lmao
fuck metal sonic kai all my homies hate metal sonic kai
I didn't know you were one of the only people to think of doing a restoration of the Chaotix OST.
This is the first time I have heard this song while actually paying attention to it, and I might have to say that it sounds way too amusing to be a final boss fight theme, but I still like it.
Funny enough the way this started had nothing to do with chaotix, I was just going through sample packs I have trying to find some place to start something that I don't remember, and I ended up finding like half the samples by chance, went through more packs and almost found the rest
And nevermind the fact that I'm throwing myself into him over and over there's 0 consequence to it
Great work! I loved that you found a whole and quality set of drums from Knuckles Chaotix! I really wanted you to throw off the full Sample pack.
@@DemonSlayer15679 there's still a handful that I can't find - mainly the other snare and the timpani. And I'm not even sure about the kick I used I just hoped it sounded close enough. I'd definitely need a second opinion on that. There's honestly probably better resources out there besides me, plenty of discord servers with folks way more dedicated to that sort of thing
Metal Sonic's eye smile in the thumbnail led me to this video.
I'm glad you were able to make that out lmao I realized how pointless that mightve been with smol thumbnail
easyest boss in existence
😂@ShadyFanEdits
Ehem, Quartz Quadrant boss.
Emerald hill zone boss
This sounds great.
Awesome work! It'd be interesting to hear the prototype version of this with the extended intro too, if you're up for that
Maybe down the line. I wanna do this in order of the songs I like the most tbh
Just also need to find a good vgm to mid converter to help sequence out rhe percussion. I'm not making an original cover so there's no reason for me to earball it
@@shalpp this might be random, but there's a good way to do this without a vgm to mid converter, there's a program called SMPS2MID, which can export SMPS songs to MIDI files, using just a ROM
you can just open a Chaotix ROM and it'll load the music table and the songs
@@mrneptune64do you know if that tool can actually translate the PCM tracks? I really wanna do amazing arena next
@@shalpp it does, actually
I have midis from Chaotix with every channel intact, it even makes all 4 PWM channels as seperate tracks in the midi file
it even has patch changes for when different FM instruments play on a channel
This boss fight being ultra ass makes me so sad because Metal Sonic Kai is one of my favorite Sonic designs lmao, even with the floaty legs n shit
Could you give me the list of samples you used? I am not that good at identifying them with my Yamaha RX5 and Korg X5 sample bank
The boss fight itself is really easy if you just hold your partner and ram into him
The boss fight is an absolute joke it's the most disappointing boss fight in the entire game, underwhelming arena, the entire thing is just a fat tech demo of LARGE FLOATING SPRITES
NOTHING EVEN FUCKING SCALES LMAO
knuckles chaotix is a tech demo in and of itself
You guys do have to admit the game is fun when played right however
@@shalppoh yeah, either his arm is stretchy or he shrinks when he goes into the background
This boss f*cking sucks. But this restoration of a song is fire 🔥
Moskito i get this bro 😂
which one is easier
palmtree panic boss VS oriental legend
@@tubisienbintunisien637 ppz definitely - you can cheese it by hugging the right side as the boss lands
@@shalpp damn didnt expect you to reply do you have discord?
Is this what the samples sound like in ROM before they're mixed and shoved through the PWM channels, or did you find the original source from which they were taken?
Edit, I should read the text in the video, d'oh.
The samples from rom sound almost 1:1 with in-game playback
Since these are digital channels the only variance in samples is based on the driver's playback rate
Which begs the question, why hasn't anybody tried to fix the sound driver in that game? Sample playback desyncs hard anytime something is loading
@@shalppwait, the 32x sound driver is broken??
I still think Metal Kai is cool, but I do agree they could've made him tougher.
That aside, me personally, this game feels way too undercooked. There's LOADS of unused content, and I don't understand why they replaced Sonic and full-on scrapped Tails in favor of the Chaotix. Why not include them?
So yeah, if I could remake this game, here's what I'd do:
1. The title would be Sonic Crackers: Knuckles' Chaotix.
2. I'd add more sounds and effects where necessary.
3. All unused frames would be used.
4. I'd make the physics and momentum and stuff more classic and easier to control.
5. I'd make that stupid spore plant bomb badnik thing killable.
6. There'd be a little bossfight with Metal Sonic before he locks into the stage select machine, taking inspiration fron Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit. He'll do so after 4 hits.
7. I'd make Metal Kai harder. Duh. Also I'll add the appropriate sounds to the 3rd phase.
First thing would be to pull the game off of the 32x so it's not chugging balls just trying to move around
Like unironically this game should've been made for the saturn and let the 32x get that enhanced 3d blast port (let the 32x handle the higher color backgrounds, embellishments, and fixed enemy sprites and let the md vdp blast out higher color sprites for sonic and moving enemies, and then let chaotix be the true 32 bit graphical showcase representation of sonic on the saturn.
Infinitely more detailed and organic backgrounds, less cutbacks for processing power =more actual fun stuff to be implemented in the game and not a slow as shit elevator or *drill*
@@shalpp Great insight.
But alas, the talent required lives only in my head.
@@shalpp The game was actually originally meant for the Saturn and to be a proper sonic title, but apparently shit went wrong behind the scenes due to the game being over ambitious and due to Sega of America needing more 32x title desperately, the project then got down scaled and parts of it split across different games (It's assumed the overhead sections from Sonic Crackers were made in Sonic Labyrinth.) meanwhile the main game fell onto the 32x.
which drums are from what synths/banks/whatever, been trying to create an HD version of the chaotix drumset for some time now
Uhhhhh couldn't tell you off top lmao
If I remember right though both of those synths don't have too much to flip through as far as samples go
@@shalpp some of the drum samples are actually pitched down, funnily enough
the lower pitched bongo is just the first one but downpitched by a few semitones, and the congos are downpitched by 2 semitones as well
