I will try and find the build sheet and will do a video of what issues I had with having a short block build done and what to look for when installing older parts on a new engine like cracks, o rings to replace and a slew of other things Lmao! Thanks for the comments, omg the issues could have been prevented but the build got into the $10,000 range and I started cutting corners that's where I had issues. I posted a list of parts in the comments thanks for watching

Dude first off yes 7.3 is great, but not buying that. First off no one in the world makes a 20 ton skid steer. That's 40,000 lbs the biggest is like 12,000 if that. Second no pickup truck especially an older 7.3 is going to pull a 20 ton machine. The gearing in a pickup isn't made for that and also being you would need a 25 ton trailer he would have needed air brakes not legal with a pickup. Either you're making this up or you're a little confused what he pulled

do know that pick up trucks have been hauling 40k plus for years and yea a 7.3 will do it and can legally do it but when it comes to newer trucks they can do that with ease we use to use an 03 f450 to haul an excavator and additional equipment to the jobs the truck was registered with dot and was legally allowed to tow upto 54k I've never seen it or drove it with more than 46k being hauled the biggest thing is making sure ur tires are rated for the weight and upgrading ur brakes is a good idea aswell as a trailer brake is legally required

    My 7.3 has ebpv delete
If you ever upgrade your turbo. I have the zf6 in mine and I do a lot of heavy towing. I've tried kc300x 63/73 and it was definitely not good for towing so I thought I'd try a gtp38r with 1.0ar housing and still no good. After a lot more research I ended up getting a kc38r cartridge to see if that would help but no luck with that and I just wasn't enjoying driving the truck because it was so laggy. A month later I had an idea to swap the .84ar housing from my stock turbo to the gtp38r so I did a bit of research and you can't find anything on this so I just went ahead and swapped it out. I disconnected the waste gate as well and the difference was night and day, I couldn't be more happier. I never go over 2100rpm and I drive it like a truck. It is a low end torque monster now. For anyone wanting loads of low end torque for towing with your 6 speed I highly recommend the gtp38r with .84ar housing. You can't beat the spool up of a ball bearing turbo. My truck has 300,000 on this turbo setup now and never missed a beat.

Hey Scott...Thanks for the shout out! I just installed a temporary 7.3 with 219K on it to get my truck back running. Shot footage of my loaded test drive as I took the CoPart wreck remains for scrap. Didn't hit record during the main section showing my acceleration uphill. My block and heads are back from the machine shop and my donor truck had a ZF6 that I will be installing when the rebuild is done. What tune are you running on your Hydra? Your EGT is real low for that low boost. I ran the 65 HP tune with 21K gross weight and hit 1200 fairly easily, and was hitting up to 22 PSI boost.

Since I had this engine built its got so much power that I could run it on stock and out pull many trucks out there. I keep it on 50hp performance I never change it, I ran it on the extreme 140hp, it's not that much fun because you can't change gears fast enough. I'm running 4:10 gears I wished it was a automatic transmission with a John wood valve body and 6.0 cooler that's the best transmission setup in my opinion. @@scottbaker4314 I have a Diamond Eye 4" turbo back SSTL exhaust and a 6637. With stock injectors this gave me a 1 MPG gain and reduced the EGT's so I no longer have to lift off the throttle when pulling hills to keep the EGT's down. I'd like to make baffles to pull more outside air and less hot air in, but everything I've read shows that with the intercooler it's not necessary. I'm planning on getting some temperature readings to check this out.

I have the 4r100 w/JW body valve and a mishimoto cooler which is better than the 6.0 in my opinion. I agree it will shift faster but trust me the 6 speed manual is better with towing heavy. I'm looking to either do a 6 manual swap or a allison conversion which would cost me 10-13k. If you plan on doing a turbo swap either a KC 63/68 .84 for a manual and KC 63/73 .84 for a automatic.

My only problem was the tires were not heavy enough. A blow out would suck going down the freeway, going slow in town or on the ranch what ever ya want to do. I run super heavy weight tires on all my 14,000# trailers and can max the trailers out well before the tires. Try some (st 235 85 16) tires in as heavy a ply as you can get. You will be much happier. People seem to not to understand that you have additional payload on the tow vehicle so if you are hauling 14,000# on a 14,000# trailer you subtract the weight of the trailer and add the pay load of the tow vehicle then you know approximately what your true payload is. With a single axle one ton and a 14,000# trailer you can haul about 12,500# load on the trailer, dual one ton about 14,000# and a 550/5500 will handle 16,000#. This is on a 20' 14,000# trailer at 3,500# dry weight. Your trailer will weigh more or less depending on the manufacturer or whether it is bumper pull or gooseneck and what options it has. I always error on the light side of things just for piece of mind. Thanks for the videos!!! P.S. All my figures were taken from a bumper pull trailer. A gooseneck does add some payload as the pin is over the axle and not on the bumper.

Low is low. First is first. So with any real weight, start in low and once you are moving shift to first and then through the gears. Altitude is a big factor too. With 5k lbs at lower altitudes you are likely good just starting in first. Once you go above 5k or high altitudes you’ll want to start in low and then once you are moving shift into first. And don’t rev low out or the truck won’t like shifting into first. Maybe up to 1500-2000 (if the load isn’t too heavy) then gently shift into first.

Do not give any accelerator pedal when taking off, only apply accelerator pedal after clutch is all the way out. With a little trailer and Miata If your level or pointing downhill a little you can try 1st gear, if the engine struggles too much when letting out clutch, then use low instead. If your pointing uphill with a load, i always just use low gear to take off as there is no need to burn the clutch trying to take off in 1st. Some of my videos on my channel i should have a few examples.

I always loose my edge protectors so this is a lot cheaper. Plus this trip is 10 miles round trip no speeds above 55 so I don't use chains and binders but over the road of course I do.
