Today I played Star Stable Online and talked about how the Soul Rider Lisa was ruined when updated in recent years. There is a reason why old players miss old star stable and the old soul riders!

The new soul riders feel like those clique groups that kinda say/try to act like they're your friends, but they quietly push you out and leave you out of most things. The player is basically a third wheel and I am still salty that they had the soul riders push the player away constantly when they tried to help but all of a sudden it's all fine and dandy when the player turns out to be a soul rider and we're supposed to just forget the treatment we had by these "friends".
I would like to mention that during the friendship festival, Sabine had made SO MUCH more sense than Linda and Alex did when she was talking. If I could I would honestly join the dark riders and join Sabine's club. She spoke the truth and yet Alex and Linda try to demonize that, they come off as incredibly blind and hard-headed. They do not believe in change and they do not believe that someone like Sabine might want to have some peace for once.
Sabine is probably the only newly changed character that I actually feel a connection to, I actually PREFER talking to her over the soul riders. She comes off a grounded and she speaks the truth even if it hurts, she doesn't just try to bury things or push outsiders away.
Honestly this is starting to remind me of Transformers oddly enough. Several times in no matter what version we are shown that "The good guys" (Autobots) aren't exactly clean with a terrible background and we're shown the two sides of things. The Soul Riders/The Druids remind me very much of what the Autobots were in most versions of Transformers (pre-war). And the Dark Riders remind me A LOT of how the Decepticons started out. Not truly evil yet, but definitely not as bad as the opposing group.
I don't really agree with the point about us being left out in the beginning. The riders have many "regular" people as friends and the only reason they were skeptical towards us was because there were supposed to be only four riders and all of a sudden there's a random girl who always seems to be around when shit goes down. They can't just go around telling everyone about how they're Soul Riders. The friendship talk does feel not very genuine though, especially after Elisabeth died because of Alex and her involvement was never addressed simply because she felt bad about it. About the Sabine point - as much as I love her, she wouldn't even spare us a single glance if we didn't have powers or couldn't otherwise help her cause. I'd argue that no one wants us on their side simply because we're a nice girl. I would 100% at least consider joining the dark riders though, it seems like with them we'd actually learn to use our potential instead of only being able to use magic whenever there's an emergency or we have to clean up Alex's messes.
I feel closer to Sabine than any of the soul riders. I genuinely love her character. Something must've messed up if players prefer and feel like they know the villains who appeared at one event better than the main characters

It was so cool to have such diverse, unique characters before they turned into what they are now. Lisa was my hero as a kid. She was strong, different, loud, and a rocker. She had cool short hair, and I aspired to express myself as freely as she did. She had a hard backstory and her rock songs and style were awesome. Current day Lisa is the most flat character you could make. She sings country, she follows the rules, she’s in what feels like a clique. Past Lisa was as you described, carefree, different, and nearly the outcast but the leader you want to follow. It’s disappointing to see Star Stable go backwards in an attempt to cater to younger kids, even though they’ve been doing so for years. I wish they kept her. I lost so much interest in the game after her and Loretta’s change.
Loretta changing from mean to nice was also something that felt very big to me. Loretta was mean, but had more to her than her vanity and poor attitude. She had a more sad backstory, harder. It showed that people, even if you have a bad impression of them, are more than they first seem. It taught me a lot of empathy as a kid… I remembered it when people were rude in real life. If Star Stable is looking to cater to younger people, they should have deeper people and show emotional maturity instead of portraying the world as flat.
In a certain way I totally understand that the soul riders want to go else where. Jorvik feels like a prison, where you are forced to only be positive and only live for horses. I feel like the "cold" attitude of the SR is understandable, I'd be like that if the weirdos who changed my quiet life into a druidic nightmare were forcing me to hang out with a new girl I don't chose as friend. I'm pretty sure it wasn't planned but it's almost like if the writers were warning us about the dangers of forced friendship and toxic positivity.
not about the soul riders, but its interesting to think about the parallels of current sso's overly positive, starshine legacy's actially pretty hostile and the star stable season riders' tranquil athmospheres and how different they are 🤔

They also seemed to make Anne HATE being a soul rider... like in the last story quests she sounded like she wanted to quit. She just seems so done with everything and in a depressing way at that

I mean, at least she has a good reason. She's the only one who talks openly about her reservations and makes valid points about questioning the druids' authority. She has every right to be bitter, she spent months trapped in Pandoria and now everyone treats her differently.

I'm loving these changed character series, I think you should talk about Ydris next, he used to be a old or middle aged man with grey hair, he was tall and he looked kinda scary and more intimidating, now he looks like a anime hot teenager and he is almost the same size as the player, and I think it's very clear that SSO updated Ydris to attract teenager girls who think he is hot 😆

to be honest when i first logged in for the first time in 3 or 4 years of not playing in 2019 i stood there like "🧍♀️ who are you-" Lisa went from such a cool and rad character who i liked alot snd i had rooted for her to this vsco country girl who is the type to talk to you just to seem friendly. Anne was a cool pop girl who i imagined as the equestrian IT girl now shes like a rock unmoving and prickly. They had such in dept personalities and they actually made you feel included but now when they talk they reminisce about their past days and make plans with each other. If u notice we may have only 1 or 2 lines if they asked us a question. Catherines quest was actually a well written story when she felt left out and all that because i felt the same and im not even in the game! They have 0 personality humor or anything and its so so sad bc sso has decreased greatly from the time when i first played to now.
I will never forgive sso for completely remaking all the characters and practically ruining them. Why is Lisa, who was once the cool “alt” girl of the group, now a country bumpkin. I hate this company so much.

I thought they changed the Players relation to Aideen? We're no longer Aideen reincarnate but the fifth daughter who wasn't given any power in the beginning but is closer to Aideen and can learn ANY or ALL or the powers.
My main problem with Linda nowadays is that it feels like she talks more about her fanfiction than anything else in the later missions, she doesn't feel like a book nerd anymore. Nothing wrong with fanfiction, it's a natural part of reading and writing, there just doesn't seem to be much else right now. Perhaps an attempt to make her 'relatable'.
Anne having changed is natural in her situation but we don't see that much of her, there doesn't seem to be much in there.
Lisa's dad no longer working for Dark Core makes sense if he knows anything about what happened last time, I do think he got away too easily...
As for the Ranch it came from him, he associates horses with his wife and daughter, who has a horse so it makes sense for him to create that kind of environment. He lived in Texas for a long time and it's unique to Jorvik. Lisa's leaning towards western might be largely due to environment, I hope the rock is still in her.
I won't be whining again about the new Lisa since I made my opinion clear many times (if somebody doesn't know yet I hate her and although I don't really know old Lisa I would treid a new one for her in a heartbeat since she sounds like an actual character instead of a cardboard cutout with an annoying stereo behind it), instead, I would like to point out one thing. In the quests there is a lot of talk about sisterhood, but where is that sisterhood actually? The answer is it, despite what SSO would like us to believe, it doesn't exist, our character has a better connection with people they help in Jorvik than them. My favorite show ever Charmed (original from 90' I do NOT recommend remake but to each thair own) deals with the topic of sisterhood and it does such a great job. The characters after a long separation come together, and they have to work through that emotion past conflicts, and so forth, and have to stand together to fight evil, they bond through all the trials and tribulations, evolve as characters and the whole thing makes that sisterhood stronger, and even when lives give than a chance at something better they decide to stay together and help people. I wish that SSO could do something similar and they might have attempted to do this with Alex as she is the only one whose actions seemsto bite her in the butt (Elizabeth's death being kinda her fault since she decided to stay and duel with Darko, instead of getting back to safety with others which prompted Elizabeth and us to go get her, and as a result, Elizabeth left the story and we almost got trapped in Pandoria permanently) but it falls flat on its face, since she doesn't really seem to learn from this. I don't know I probably ramble a lot, but I really wish SSO had a better story, it's a good game and there are many things to enjoy in my opinion, but the abysmal storytelling and awful character changes keeps it from being great.
I liked Old Alex but now she is really Annoying to me, the only soul rider that I still like is Linda
Yeah ngl, the only character I've felt like I'm friends with, is Justin. And that's a little weird to me.
I don't want to be around the soul riders. I've only logged on twice in the past few months because of the event quests with the Dark Riders. I'm excited to interact with Dark Riders, they're actually fun to be around! Katja is epic, I wanna be her friend lmao

They really turned Star Stable's maturity level down to Peppa Pig. It feels really dumbed down and I don't like having to go through dialogue in the game anymore.
It really didn't need to happen, I loved playing the original Star Shine and Star Stable games from 6 years old to now (in my 20s), no problem.
I whole heartedly agree with your points. The characters are feel blank to the point where I puzzle in my own headcanons on why they act the way they do. But it’s driven to the point where I just come to the conclusion that the soul riders just aren’t really my friends, just coworkers or I’m a lackey of some kind since MC seems to be the one doing the dirty jobs.
Though the part where they have other ambitions. I chalk it up to that, they never wanted such a responsibility in the first place. One day you’re an ordinary person with a dream, suddenly it’s throw aside for the sake of saving the world from evil. Their time that could have been spent on achieving their dreams is casted aside or else they’ll be selfish since they’re the chosen one and all that jazz. But I understand where you’re coming from! I doubt SSO will make them drift apart severely, they might not talk a lot but when they do it’s like a day hasn’t passed and they’re all still close with one another probably. Except for MC lmao

Actually that's why I want to go on the other side, I think Sabine has way more character. I don't really want to stay with them I feel like as soon as we saved anne, they don't need me anymore, because now they have all the four soul riders and since then they got so cold.

i agree with this video. but i think a huge part of the characters lose a lot of relatability is simply because we don't play as them anymore, compared to how we did in ssl where everything was told through their inner monologue. If the books were actually canon (and better) a huge chunk of relatability could have been created that way.
Honestly the og designd felt more iconic, recognizable, and more human emotionally, had more in depth character development, if you read the comics and play the starshine games, the characters have more personality, the og outfits also just felt more unique considering the game takes place in the early 2000’s, the new outfits feel off and wayyy to bland, doesnt fit the characters quite well tbh, and its more like 2010’s cloths, taking away from the fact the game is more y2k

I m a new player so i don t know how the soulrider was in the past but i don t conmect tu them to me theire just npc without any back story or emotions i literaly connect a lot more with the updated dark rider lmao (sabine and katja)

Also that's so true!!! the characters are not the same it feels like they are not the same person. Star stable could of just updated how they looked before but now they have a whole different look.

I never really like Anne from the start. I always loved Linda and Alex. And Lisa I just don't like her because she steals the spot light all the time so I only really Like Alex,Linda and Maya.
I always liked the old Anne and loved her modeling quest and her love for beauty in the original Star Shine Legacy. She overcame her snob attitude to become friends with the other girls, but she always had love for fashion and dressage. Now she has none of these traits. She's just a blonde brooding rich girl. She really lost all her soul & character while being stuck in Pandoria I guess 😢
I don't feel this "friends" connection with any of them, it just feels like they're using you, if you know what I mean🥲
