I am repeatedly impressed that Coop can speak coherently seemingly without being able to actually hear what he's saying. There are plenty of hearing people out there that can't pull that off.
most hearing people can't do it because it's hard to do. he, however, is used to speaking that way and he knows how he sounds. he's just confident in his voice even if he can't hear it. same would apply to deaf people who've had vocal training and hav become comfortable. I hav a regular customer at my job whom speaks well but I still practice my ASL with her. her mom doesn't speak at all and is also deaf. I like to c how different thy r and also how happy thy both get to speak to me and teach me new words. I learned BAG yesterday!!!

I don't have hearing issues, but I refer to headphones or earbuds as ears. If they have interfered with someone trying to have a conversation with me while I was intently listening to something from them, I will apologize for "having my ears on" when asking for a repeat of the thing they said. kind of the issue inn reverse

you’re such a good mom. you are so patient with him even though things get really tough. you lay ground rules and tell him when things are enough and he needs to stop. that’s why he’s so respectful towards you sometimes. you also teach him so well, considering how well he speaks without hearing
i just wanna add that adults are actually proven to be faster at learning languages than children, mainly because they already understand at least one language of their own and have a better understanding of the world. i was put off learning a second language because i figured i’d gone past my peak many years ago, but 6 months ago i started learning german on a whim and i’m now intermediate and conversation at a wide range of topics. i just wanted to say this to hopefully inspire anyone who felt the same as me.

I have experience with the deaf as a musician. Children were always amazing as they learn vibration as a sound. The fact that you are on a farm with all those vibrations and obstacles and laugh though the frustrations and share your experiences is absolutely amazing...thank you!

If you ever saw a stressed mom? Beth was it during those days. So glad he respects they are important pieces of equipment in his life and they need to be cared for. Good job on that transition Beth!

Then a couple months later we had a lice screening at our school and the nurses got all freaked out when they found one random pink hair on my sister’s head 😂 Evidently the hair dye my mom used was a bit stronger than she expected 😅

Welcome to the challenges of raising a deaf kid. And this kid can actually hear with the implants, which means he can speak. Try doing it with a 8-10yo that can't speak at all. You learn to sign in the rearview a lot. You can't just ignore them for the entire drive, it's quite literally impossible.

As a non parent I can totally see why parents continue fighting for their kids when they’re adults if they’re fine or not doing too well at all. I look at parents like alien beings that can wrangle a whole person for decades haha. Kudos to you parents. It’s all appreciated but you won’t hear it much until their mid 20s haha. Now at 33 I tell my mom how grateful to her I am as much as I can and that she did a great job.
Do you know what? I’m a Mam of 2 (one teen and has health issues and one has SEN but both fine and dandy) and I really needed to stop and say thank you for this. I’m really battling with myself and trying to embrace the curves and swerves parenting throws at me daily. Its a rewarding journey but it ain’t easy. ❤
I have zero doubt that your family has more challenges than most people realize but the fact that you're brave enough to transparently share your family's hearing journey will have ripple effects to help more and more people also share their journeys and in some situations seeing your story will give people the courage to seek medical help for their child's needs. The medical professionals use this term with little kids, personally I don't like it. They have ears with or without the aids :)
