Uhuh.. then why lychee slicer, chitubox, voxel dance dango can't open my step cad files of hard surfaces objects when resin 3d printing? Or why any sculpted figurine isn't a step file? It depends.. parametric or polygonal mesh will both be used ans coexist for years. There's not only one... And no customer based resin 3d printer slicer (besides prusa) can open step files without converting to a mesh.

What is used now in 3D prints is the STEP file, the STL is actually an old format and the new STEP yealds better quility prints. - Look it up

There are some cases where STEP better. But not always. Video in process
