we love that the jays will behave as though they are at the market in the produce department, picking up a peanut as though to weigh it then drop it to test another before deciding on the heaviest and flying off with it, I guess that they've learned that sometimes the shells are empty or have only the one pea. A triple is a real score for them. Our tufted titmouse will simply skewer the peanut right through the shell to claim it before a jay can take it.
Just lay your hand on the table with the peanut and wait for Jay to get the courage. The peanut is their best treat. If she can't get it any other way she will take it. Don't hold it in your fingers or keep moving your hand. She will eventually land on your hand.

@@nancyegan841 I got one crow to take from my hand but not Jays, but Jays were less skittish in general. There was a family of crows I was feeding and the youngest was the bravest. Once he came and landed on the fence and he had a plastic bag stuck on his leg and the other crows were harassing the heck out of him so I managed to get it off and after that he seemed to trust me more.
@@nancyegan841 who are you suggesting put their hand out? Because from the sounds of it @CANADIAN KABINGURL already knows how to get the jays to trust her, do you know what I mean? I’m sure your advice could be helpful to others don’t get me wrong I was just confused cuz it’s like youre trying to help the person who was already helping the video uploader lol. Your advice was good though- another thing people do is put a bowl out like in the video, and slowly move the bowl closer day by day, and then eventually touch the bowl, and then after a couple of days hold the bowl, and then after a couple more you don’t even need the bowl and just have the food in your hand
We had a Jay that I gave peanuts to by hand. I suggest you put your hand flat with the peanut in your palm, that's how I got ours to to take the peanuts from me.

Another thing to know is Bluejays will hoard peanuts in nearby woodpecker holes in trees when they are full as a reserve food supply. They are very clever birds indeed.
I always wondered why I never see any birds in your videos especially when they eat the same food but now you have a new little blue friend. She's really playing hard to get but you'll be petting her soon.
Love your Canada Geese too. I had no idea how loud they could be until one time driving back to Iowa from Missouri directly underneath their migratory flight path. I stopped and pulled over to watch them and soon had quite a few other cars doing the same. They're even more beautiful on that gorgeous lake you live next to!! Many, many, *_many_* thanks!

Yes and you need to be very still...do not move your hand at all
They are extremely brave! In our area, they even fight with crows over food.
