  • In this video you can get to know how to fix a broken headphones cable. I hope I can help a lot of people with this video. One really important information that I didn't include in the video: in general the drivers have 2 wires, red is the positive and white is the negative. The thick cable has 3 wires inside, the black is the negative which is a common one and the white, red are the positive ones. You should connect the positie from the driver to the positive from the thick cable, and so on.

Thank you! It worked like a charm. A little improvement I did was to drill through that little rubbery thing (2:50) and re-use it to hold new cable in place. No glue needed.

@@dicecard921 I used the smallest drill bits I had at home. Just that and a lot of patience xD -- the rubber thingy stretches when drilled so the result diameter of hole is less than drill bit's diameter. For the life of me, I don't remember which drill bit was just right for the job.

I have the Superlux HD668B headphones and a reviewer from Amazon recommended to use heat shrink tubing on the 3.5mm plug. I did that on my headphones and its much more sturdy. I will still be careful with it. I guess some people are very rough with the headphones or accidentally yanking them. Try it. It doesn't cost much.

Thank you for the video. I managed to keep the plug, was tricky but works fine. Glued it into place with hot glue, now it comes out of the hole left from the cable but its rigid.

Thanks a lot, it was really helpful for me. The same problem, I got stuck at the point of disassembly and did not dare to apply force. You took this risk for me and others. Unlike your case, I just made the cable with the jack near the headphones a little longer, now it resists bending better. The manufacturer must do this from the very beginning.

  • @yosto7522

Thanks it was very helpful. A suggestion, if theres enough room you can make a knot with the main cable right before you connect the red-white ones, that way not matter how much force you put on it, it wont be damaged and you dont need extra tools (hot glue).

Instead of replacing the full cable. Possibly install a 3.5mm jack or a socket. In this way the damage is reduced or even prevented. They will look a bit like the 681 EVO with the detachable cable.

Hello, i tried following as closely as in the video, and managed to get this piece of junk i found that doesn't make sound at all, to make sounds on both sides!
However i noticed when i tried testing the sound, it seems that the sound is flipped between left & right. And also one side doesn't produce any bass. Is that possible because of bad connection from the solder? Or the driver just aren't good anymore?

hint: right after you buy them, put hot glue on the connector from the earphone (let it cool down and repeat, multiple layers 2 or 3 times), so it gets hard like a tank, if it does not move, it cant break. thats how i use mine since 5 years :)

Thats a great pair of headphones! I am using it for 3+ years already and they have been repaired 5+ times :)
BUT, the last time I tried to fix them again, but it didn't work. I bought a new 3.5 plug and soldered it. Still, my right speaker does not work. Under plastmass near right speaker everything seems ok. So, i think it is broken somewhere inside (under right speaker or inside of metall headband). Can you give me a hint what can be a problem? I did not drop them, so right louder should be ok. Thx.

This is a design problem with the Superlux - but it should be possible to replace the input socket with a better quality metal socket - very cheap components - and wired as original. That way you can make use of different cables as intended. It makes sense to me to have the socket on a small length of wire so that it is say 50cm away from the headphones. Also when soldering small wires like this it is best to reinforce the joint with a small length of heat-shrink tubing.

    • @techzact

The quality of that cable is not so good, that's why it's getting broke for a lot of people. Maybe you can put some tape around that part and be gentle with it when you use the headphones, but other than that I think there's no way to prevent it.

They should sell all Superlux headphones as DIY kits - quality is a lottery, and you still need to get it right sooner rather than later. So it's better to solder the thing yourself!😠
