I used to hunt gophers with a old school pellet rifle. Using 22 pellets, I cleaned out fields of them was powerful enough to knock them down with 10 pumps. A local artist used to have some eagles and hawks .he would buy them from me for 25 cents. I would buy gas for my dirt bike .gas was cheap back then. My dad would say how you paying for your gas? And I told him and he brought me a newer rifle. Nothing like today's rifles but was still pretty sweet. I think bob the artist told people and ranchers started asking me to hunt for rats and gophers turned into a sweet little enterprise I always had money for odds and ends 🎉🎉🎉

It’s nice to see someone addressing a very serious problem in a humane way, and not have the comment section full of a bunch of people crying about how sick this is etc. Seems the commenters here all have some common sense and understand how necessary your work is. Hats off to you, you’re like an artist with your rifles.

Its a pleasure to watch somebody shoot that knows what they are doing and how to do it, a real pleasure. I have watched dozens of these and you are the first that lines up and fires right away, no delays or spending extra time lining up for no reason. There is no wasted time at all just like i do it, man this is great. If you are taking more than a second then you are wasting time. Others out there think its suspenseful or that they are going to get a better shot or something when all they are doing is boring us and giving the rat time to move and your aim and muscles time to fatigue. Thanks again and look forward to watching more.

They're obviously not comprehending what exactly is going on but sometimes these death throes seem extremely alarming. Makes me wonder what it's like downrange as your mates are suddenly stricken with an urge to dance and then go completely still. They don't even have time to squeak it's just lights out. 👍

New York City is needing a Rat Czar right now heard on radio today and it pays 120k to 160k per year city is overrun big time with giant Norwegian Rats and mayor is desperate for a solution.
I live on a boat in Marin County California and at low tide I can usually dispatch 1 - or 2 a night with my Dreamline Classic in .22 topped with Hawke Frontier 2.5x15x50 I just shoot it at 20 ft lbs as it’s all I need and it likes JSB 15.89 Hades. I installed a battery operated motion detector on shore under foot bridge and sometimes throw out some chicken legs or fruit to get them intrestested . Keep up the good work and your aim is excellent so what do yo do with the dispatched because that’s a lot of vermin

    Good shooting, enjoyable to watch.
How do you go about finding your permissions?
I do pest control on my own land (rabbits) but starting to run out of targets!

Glad you enjoyed the video. To gain permission is persistence. Door knocking on farmers doors and explain what you do and what you're offering.

How do you clean up all the dead rats after? Like, how do you remember where you shot all of them. Do you bury them in a field?

Walk round afterwards, collect them and put in an incinerator

I gotta admit, as a guy that breeds mice and gerbils, I'm amazed at how revolting feral rats are compared to their domestic counterparts. Maybe because they run around in filth, spread disease and sickness, and are generally extremely destructive.
This is also the first video where I've heard the FX "breathe" after each shot. Are you able to fire while it is breathing or do you need to wait until it is done for the next shot?

By the time you've recocked it the rifle has refilled itself ready to shoot, so doesn't make too much difference.

Can the rats still see you, and the infrared light? It looks like some of them notice the shooter, the way they just stare directly into his face.

If you're close enough sometimes they wonder what the light is but generally they're not interested.
