I used to hunt gophers with a old school pellet rifle. Using 22 pellets, I cleaned out fields of them was powerful enough to knock them down with 10 pumps. A local artist used to have some eagles and hawks .he would buy them from me for 25 cents. I would buy gas for my dirt bike .gas was cheap back then. My dad would say how you paying for your gas? Rats are smart: have they figured out what the best strategy is in this situation? (such as, not staying still, darting constantly, or coming out only in the day time?)
It's always seemed weird to me that the other rats either immediately inspect or stay completely still as one by one gets sniped. By the time you've recocked it the rifle has refilled itself ready to shoot, so doesn't make too much difference.
