Mark, perhaps if you mix the cendol before getting your mum to try might make a difference. Foreigners tend to pick the beans, green jelli etc separately which is not how it should be eaten....you know that 😊. Your mum learn fast eating with fingers 👍🏻. Enjoy and have fun!
Mark you should go other state to find best food not only kl or penang, some places are over rated, in kl for us mamak pelita near klcc is the best mamak restaurant. Right place for good food, for example if looking for sate come to kajang Sate Rono is recommended, ,or other malay food., There are many more places that serves good food, when you go to wrong place which not sedap sometimes it is not because of the food is not sedap but it is because the place not serve sedap food. Also cendol is best to buy from stall some times they do not use fresh coconut milk but use coconut cream in box or santan kotak lor
Cendol = mix it and enjoy, Don't eat saperately. Nasi lemak= use spoon not fork, put some nice, a bit sambal and another condiments into the spoon, same like cendol , Don't eat saperately
4:39 not westernised at all actually. In Terengganu and Kelantan, we eat roti canai with sugar and condensed milk too. Instead of having salt & pepper on the table, we used to have sugar jars instead
Owh Mark.... I'm so disappointed with you.... You've been in Malaysia for so long.... Yet you still did not give a good advice for your mom on how to eat local foods... You know you have to mix all the ingredients to eat local food.... You can't eat the ingredients one by one, you won't get the taste... It's the blend of the taste that makes it special.... Most of our dishes like nasi lemak, nasi kerabu, cendol, yong tau fu, nasi kandar, ABC.... All you have to mix it first before eating... Otherwise you'll not get the real taste... And one more important thing, tasting a durian can't be eaten "just a little bit" like your mother's do... She will only get the smell and not the taste.... This is the biggest mistake most foreigners do when tasting durian. You have to take a big bite... Shove the whole piece into your mouth and spit out the seeds... That way you'll get the real special taste of durian, and the smell will no longer become stinky because the taste will get over it....
actually, shes not westernized the roti canai with sugar. many malaysian eat that way. even me, i do like eat roti canai with sugar since kid. shes more malaysian then u mark. shame of u. 🤣🤣
