  • Temps hit mid-50's so John & Cora do a quick hive inspection to check to see how they are building up for spring. And there is a queen spotting, which is always a treat!

I seen you have a hive Beatles I seen a video I don't remember by who but. they put peppermint candy 3 or 4 in each hive and hive Beatles don't like it. I tried it and it has been working for me. I enjoy your videos and thank you for them. I live in east Tennessee and I am a backyard bee keeper. Have a blessed day and good luck! Larry in Tennessee.

Dandelions and peaches started blooming today here in Ohio... just waiting for the temps to rise up and hold.

So I've heard that sometimes queen bees, or perhaps specifically Virgin Queen bees, make a sound that's different? I'm interested in that. And how can a beekeeper just know by just looking at the queen bee that it is a virgin?

The queen bees will make a piping sound . It's a very sharp peep or chirp. As far as a virgin queen goes , that can be small slimmer queen not yet large from mating. Sometimes the bee keeper knows when the hive should be requeening or even sees her emerging from a cell.
      Thanks for the question

How and where do you store spare honey? We have had spare honey a few times after harvest time. Usually we switch the super to the weakest or lowest producing hive for the winter.
