  • In this video, I'm showing you why Burns Tri-Sonic pickups are really suited to clean tones. They are not as shrill as Strat single coils. They sound really "warm" by comparison. In this video I'm also showing you why they are a natural choice for alt rock - in part because of their association with the sixties and bands like The Shadows.

Have you tried a Rapier Saffire?
Looks a lot like the Burns Guitars. Maybe they sound the same.

Hi Harald, I've seen them but not tried one. I know you can get them from Thomann. Yes, the pickups in those are similar to Tri-Sonics but they are unbranded. I'm not sure but I think Rapier and Burns are distributed by the same company. I would be interested to try one though.

Would you say the trisonic Burns single coils are unique & sweeter than regular sungle coils? I seem to be hearing more atmosperic types of tones. How about hum? Do these pickups hum like other single coils? Can I get the humbucker effect without Brains type of wiring? THANKS

Are the trisonic pickups made in Korea as good sounding as the originals?

Yes, they are much sweeter sounding. Unlike regular single coils, tri-sonics get their sound from the sides of the pickup as well as from the pole pieces. They don't hum as badly as regular single coils - although Brian May potted his set with epoxy resin/Araldite. The thing about Brian's guitar is that the pickups are wired in series rather than parallel (like on a regular strat) so two or more pickups on together would act like a humbucker.

      I'm not sure.
