That is so cool! I thought he was hilarious when the appeared on The Mothers In Law when they're all seated on the sofa listening to the "grown ups" performing their songs. I wish I could see the documentary as I would like to know what happened that caused him to leave the band and walk off stage. It must have been pretty bad whatever it was and I'm sure he had a good reason.
Richard France, The Seeds road manager, called me in mid '68 to say Rick was leaving the band & asked if I wanted to audition, which of course I did & I ended up having the good fortune to play drums for The Seeds that Summer, before going back to college. Richard told me the reason for Rick's departure, but never having asked either Sky, Daryl or Jan, I can't say for sure what he said is accurate. Carl Belknap
I lived next to your Grandpa on summit view dr. El Dorado Ca. back in the 1990s. He played his drums everyday in the shed out back along side the house. Good guy, He showed me his wall in the hallway of the group pictures, very cool!
Bee R - - hello good to see and read your grandpa story-and if you would- can you tell me if there is a part in the SEEDS Documentary of SKY SAXON onstage with a guy named Hollywood Joe- - - ?
Great stuff. Im glad the Seeds are getting more attention. In 2004 Sky Saxon came to London. I was making a documentary about 60s fashion, and he - 100% unexpected and unannounced - walked in to the place where we were editing the film, saying "Hi, Im Sky Saxon."...I was struck dumb... A 60s legend from a band ive loved since i was 18 just walked in the room, out of nowhere... We chatted about a bunch of things, including him telling em about when he said he was gonna beat up Jack Nicholson...there was a big mod festival that week, and Sky shyly asked me to ask the Pretty Things if he could come on stage and jam with them. Which I did (we were filming backstage) ...by the end of it he said to me "I love you, Sean man". Ha ha! Lucky we took some photos or I might have thought i dreamt the whole thing.
Sean , HAPPY NEW YEAR 2018 - anyways - have you seen the SEEDS Documentary - - ? If so is there a part in it where I am - onstage - with him- SKY SAXON and Hollywood Joe - - ? please let me know - because people-friends have told me that they saw me in the SEEDS Documentary-which I can not seem to find anywhere to watch or even to buy---thank you, Hollywood Joe
I got to meet him in new york... he had jan savage in the band also...my band got to open for them...he autographed my guitar then proceeded to autograph everything in sight
Mesmerizing band! I saw them at least a dozen times at various clubs in and around Los Angeles at the time, usually at the Hullabaloo in Hollywood. Neil Diamond opened up for them one night at that club and many years later when my wife and I were reminiscing about bands and clubs we had both been to in those days, she mentioned that she was at that same show. Do wish this documentary would be available on DVD or streaming.
I used to work at the Hullabaloo and remember those shows with The Seeds. It's always nice to see someone write that they remember the club. Those were exciting days. I miss them still.
No getting around it as a kid to young to get into any of the clubs on the Sunset Strip I'd walk past them all and listen to every house band imitate the Seeds. Later as an employee at Tower Records Sunset Strip around 1972 Sky would dance in the isle with wild abandonment to the music playing over the store's PA system. I remember asking "who is that guy" to one of my fellow employees and them saying, "that Sky Saxon" not recognizing him with a beard.
+Rock Singer Lived in L.A. 64 to 66. Saw Sky just in the background at parties, events. Man...I walked on Sunset as well....going to the clubs. So much music, impossible to encapsulate right. Like you account of Tower Records. Documenting these days is remarkable..for us all.
Went to the premiere last night and really enjoyed the film, a must for any Seeds fan. The question and answer with Daryl and Jan afterwards was a huge bonus.
They need to get it uploaded onto UA-cam or at least Netflix or another VOD site. It's a shame when good documentaries don't always get good distribution.
I met him in the late 80s when I was doing the light-show for his performance. he was backed by an all girl punk band, Frightwig ....part of a Dead Hippie Acid Test show in L.A. we Talked as he drank a 40 ounce beer back-stage ...he was really on fire that night .....really nice guy ...and really rockin it ! gone too soon !
We - The Cheeks - did a show with SKY (and RUDI from the FUZZTONES) a few months before his death in Berlin... that was AWSOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know where I’m going to go if somebody invent a time machine I’m going back to the 1960s and when I come back today to the present time I’m gonna bring back some Vox Guitars and amplifiers in a Vox Continental Organ And some vinyl records and some Paisley shirts and a couple of Gibson Mastro fiuzz boxes💰💰💰💰💰💰💰
they say he passed away in austin, tx. some say he was real thin and frail. the last time i saw him was in 2009 or 2010 at a show in san fran ....talked to him , asked where they were off to ...he said they had some bus ....i should have stayed with him till they left but had to catch a ride back to oakland..guess they drove to texas. i was on the plane had just heard farah faucet died then micheal jackson kwhen i arrived in san antonio someone called and told me about SKY.....super bummer...i knew him he rode around san fran on the back of my honda singing..most people just wrote him off..... i was dazzled to have met such a important part of music..when he played at the purple onion he arrived in a limo and asked me to get in. i did ...WOW a real rock star,,also we swung by a friends place whos a huge fan ...ding dong he opens the door and SKY sunlight SAXON is standing there...they hit it off and sky stayed there most of the summmer back in 1991? his band was called fast planet then ...he had so many ideas he would change the names so often the clubs he played at would have to add ....sky saxon from the SEEDS many would ask who? you know the guy who started FLOWER POWER......from the movie psych out......oh....who? ahh forget it you dont know,,,,pushin to hard ....never heard it..... oh get lost. it was really important to me that i actually met him and got to pal around sf when he visited. F U T U R E..he has records from before the seeds he would sing along to at my gurus house and i'll never forget that....pure genius......***************** * ***************** * * * * * * * * * * * * *
Hey friends ! I've got on DVD, the Seeds LIVE in 1989, the return of the original Seeds : " The Seeds LIVE - From the underground Golden Vaults of the S.S.S. video library. Is someone interesting to get this video for making a remastering in studio because the sound need to be remastered. This video has been filmed with a cellular by Marianna Dapello but the sound is bad, it needs to be remastered.
The Seeds opened for The Beach Boys at a show I went to in Greenville, SC back in 1966 ... and they were boo-ed off the stage. I liked them, but their sound was a bit too advanced for that particular audience. Strange choice for an opening act.
As much as I love the Beach Boys, their audience was probably spoiled by their vocals and didn't get the raw power that The Seeds rock 'n' roll brought to the table. You had kids dragging their parents to see the Beach Boys, I wouldn't be surprised if some experienced The Seeds that day
I was a lucky guy and my girl hung out for a couple of years at a Beatlefest and Rockn rollfest I even have a full sentence and autograph of Sky Saxon for keeps sake.
The film is being shown in some theatres for awhile, before any announcement of a DVD is made. It showed in LA in two theatres in August. Keep checking www.pushintoohard.com for future announcements re the DVD.
fabrikk60 Oh, righty-ho then, GREAT !. Thank you for getting back to me on the DVD,and also for the link, which I'll check in a sec/& from time to time. Best wishes, MungoidHen = )
My grandpa is the drummer rick Andridge
That is so cool! I thought he was hilarious when the appeared on The Mothers In Law when they're all seated on the sofa listening to the "grown ups" performing their songs. Under that hippie exterior he was as tough as Elvis probably taught jim Morrison everything he knew but we will never know right
I got to meet him in new york... he had jan savage in the band also...my band got to open for them...he autographed my guitar then proceeded to autograph everything in sight
Do you remember the Jack Sky story?
What’s the name of your documentary?
Mesmerizing band! I saw them at least a dozen times at various clubs in and around Los Angeles at the time, usually at the Hullabaloo in Hollywood. I'm jealous.
We saw just about everybody in and around L.A. back then but somehow, we never got to see The Seeds.
Damnit.
