As a black guy I agree with what how Christine described code switching for black people. My “White”(Professional) voice helps me conduct my work better. Unless I feel safe and comfortable i usually “put on” the voice a bit
It's so interesting but lowkey upsetting that people think AAVE "is just how everyone talks." Yeah, everyone talks like that, but where do you think it comes from ??? It comes from black culture, and everyone adopts it without recognizing its origin.
I completely agree; I wish they would have educated themselves before speaking about this. Also, it is hurtful when AAVE (and black culture in general) is simplify to the hood.
@@wrthAMILLION Mexican people like me and my family have been talking like that for a really long time in Mexico we have Spanish words for ghettos language my family has spoken that way for generations its not like tge black community owns speaking that way they're not the only culture who do it and it is more common for people to speak that way now
code switching in the black community is basically speaking or acting more socially acceptable to not be seen as like “ghetto” or to be profiled ig as opposed to speaking more comfortably and naturally and our slang
1:02:14 The lag on Devins side had me doing a double take cuz I couldn't tell if my eyes were delayed from being tired or if that shit actually wasn't in sync
you guys really be my comfort people to watch, always lift up my mood when i’ve had a shitty day, i am a fairly new subscriber but i’ve been trying to catch up on all the podcasts from the beginning as it makes me feel like i’m apart of the group, i wish i had such good friends like the way you guys are around each other, i hope one day i can find a healthy friendship group like you guys. ps nick n devin have already been in my dreams can i just say y’all are so funny. ❤
idk if this is mean to say but I have realized that Sage is not really aware about a lot of things, like with aave, or even some other concepts in other podcasts that I thought most people knew about.
I really hate how they talk about women sometimes lmao women are “emotion-based” and men are “logically-based” y’all just lack emotional intelligence and believe misogynistic stereotypes - with love though
They say MOST women and MOST men. Which is true at the end of the day. But they also said sometimes it can switch and they’re not bashing anyone for being one or the other. Men can be emotion based, women can be logically based. They’re not saying it’s not possible, they’re just saying what’s the most common
I was literally just thinking that, so when they talk about a guy’s opinion they call it logic, but when they’re referring to a woman’s opinion it’s based on emotion, which is such a misogynistic way of viewing arguments in relationships. I love them, but this was not it.
i love how the emotionally mature ones are in the same frame and the emotionally... questionable ones are on the right. its so funny when one side all agrees while the other side disagrees at the same time
As a Hispanic who grew up in an urban area. Aave or code whatever tf is legit but not only simplified from the “hood” most people in urban areas speak that way. Just like how people on suburban areas speak a certain way. It’s dialect. If you grew up in an urban area you would speak differently than someone that grew up in the suburbs. Because of social norms speaking in your “white” voice is more “professional” and more accepted for customer service. I get what they were trying to say here but it’s not only the hood and not everyone just speaks that way. Loved the podcast, bye!
The way I’m attracted to Sean is the same way I should be avoiding this type because I’m the same way 💀😂 the avoiding conflict & fearful attachment these tests are calling me out too much y’all need to chill 🤣
I think christine comment on aave was lowkey inappropriate bc it’s not only people who talk from the hood. You don’t have to be from the hood to speak like that it’s just more comfortable to speak to other black people in that manner. It’s the same with other cultures too as well. The way people speak to their own ethnicity versus people outside their own ethnicity is so different. I wish she hasn’t said the hood. I think a different example should have been used. Also if you deem it to be inappropriate to say let’s not say it.
She said she didn’t want to say it, but she brought it up because it would make it easier to understand what she was trying to say. If someone doesn’t understand or doesn’t know what AAVE is, you could say it’s more of “hood” slang and they’ll immediately know what you’re talking about. She also said it’s not correct but it’s easier to understand that way for some people. She’s not saying AAVE is a hood dialect, just that influences of AAVE are found in the hood. Which is true.
i got 91% problem solver and 57% accommodator… no wonder why i bring so many concerns up in relationships but end up being the one to say sorry most of the time 😭😭
Had to pause at the part where dev was like yall need to watch Alice in borderland 😭!! I'm like ahhhhhh my favorite! My two worlds colliding 🤭🫶🏽 Okay dev if you read this you should watch sweet home its a kdrama! Pretty good new season should be coming out soon 😌 also all of us are dead, hellbound (new season coming soon), the uncanny counter. I think I’ve learned from the guys that guys don’t always not communicate they’re feelings bcs they don’t want to but bcs they don’t know how. which is why I think they’ve learned sm more bcs emotional intelligence is hard to grasp bcs it’s all about perspectives.
My opinion on soft launching is 1 who do you think you are that people care that much on who you're dating? (Unledd ur someone w a big folloing and 2 why are you trying to hide them so bad what do you have to hide?

Maru is such a bright presence to the world I love her so much
I love every time someone messes up a word they look at Christine to correct them

i think nick is especially sassy whenever someone roasts him and he replies with "okay buddy" LMFAO
“Cause you’re not thinking about me when I wake up and that’s an issue!” Devin speaking bars right now 😂😂
The way Sean said he’s gonna start making lip syncing and the one he recently posted with Nick is HILARIOUS😭😭😭
sean's hypothetical scenarios never fail to make me giggle LMAOO
Bro Sean is so good at coming up with funny ass fake scenarios 🤣 The “fake” gay best friend that switches up after she leaves had me DEAD
Maru is right. Guys show progress at the gym faster then girls based on their biology. Not on a lack of effort ❤️
“What’d you get 99 percent asshole 😂” will forever be my favorite line from Sage
Love how they spend 30 mins analysing a fake scenario that would never happen HAHA it’s so entertaining
25:09 this was prime example of Sean being an avoider when not caring to argue how many times Devon went around lol
Sean's hair sticking out of the beanie is so cute to me idk why
