I think once the weapon is upgraded, it can be powerful. But if you are considering to buy new weapons, first unlock something powerful like the storm rack.
You can choose between disruptor 12 and storm rack 6. You can buy disruptor 6 afterwards. If you buy storm rack 6, you can use it with storm rack 10 which can be good for many mechs.
