International Supermarket Surprised me in KABUL!

- Kabul, Afghanistan.. ABC supermarket , after my small supermarket in Kandahar , i was told there are many big supermarkets in Kabul, so decided to go to ABC and ask if i can film what they have , was so surprised at the amount of international products from all over the world, particularly the amount from the UK and the USA! and they were not old either lol .it was like being in a US or UK supermarket, and the sad thing is of course is that on the outside ...outside of this "Bubble" people are dying of hunger and living on sometimes a piece of bread that has to last them 3 days. So to say i was shocked at finding this place would be an understatment. i had no idea such places existed in Kabul. Although they mainly cater for the people that work in NGOs.

I live across ABC supermarket and lemme tell you, an average afghan won’t be able to afford what they sell. My family is considered rich in Kabul, and yet we only go to abc to look around.

I was doing shopping in this supermarket. The prices were higher than other Turkish supermarkets. Definitely not something the majority of ppl could afford even before the Talibans.

The supermarket was probably catering to the troops & international customers thus the brands & the price which goes with it. Finding actual coffee not instant is quite rare 🙂

The foreign troops were only buying from where they were stationed. Maybe a small percentage were buying from these supermarkets. These stores were built for the drag dealers, white color thieves who stole billions of dollars of aid money, and the terrorists who were working in the previous government to fill their deep pockets. These stores were not for the poor Afghans

Could you please film more from Afghanistan? in Poli- Sorkh there are a couple of beautiful supermarkets as well. Like the Turkish center and a few more. So there are also coffee shops in Shahre e- now and Poli Sorkh. Thanks and good luck.
Some folks are so surprised seeing this kinda stuff, Afghanistan is not all desert and war as it has been portrayed by the western media in previous 20 years.

Most items from Turkey and Dubai are only packed there but the origin is Europe.
Who is going to buy that? Seems too expensive for Afghanistan. Average salary is like $200 U.S a month.

Emma you should have had a walk around Barchi center in west kabul, many people speak english there and its completely different from the rest of kabul, i guess its too late anyways youre out now.
I tried that and was taken to police station as filming and photos not allowed in that area on the streets ..

I have to wonder if these goods were stockpiled for the military exchanges in the country. So many US products. They had a western consumer in mind from the pricing and types of items.

The vast majority of the people would not be able to afford the food in that supermarket, and the class of people which did have largely left the country for good.

How is the country paying for these imports? I thought Afghanistan and it's people have no money. So,how are these things funded. The store looks like any store in a financially secure country.
