Efra, I think the reason why you like KPop is because its production musically isn't held back by the trends in the west but is still appealing. I've seen videos by American producers who do work in the west but find more artistic freedom in production with their KPop collaborations. In the west, they mention that record companies will dictate what should be put out based on trend.
@veryserioz Haim is quite mainstream imo, although Chvrches is sort of more mainstream in UK. But kpop has its trends too, especially in the summer and the past 4 years have been club trop house tracks. But this year has been pretty great for a wide variety of kpop sounds.
The Weeknd-esque vibes is called 80's Synth Pop if I'm not mistaken

I think just like Efra, I came to like pop music and even rap and hip hop A LOT with kpop. I would listen to some but I wasn't so interested, specially in hip hop. That changed with Big Bang and groups from that era (I'm in the loop work since 2007). I still don't quite listen to mainstream pop or hip hop.... Lol
