  • CIPing the unitank for the first time after a ferment. Im using the blichmann riptide pump and various fittings i had around the brewery.
    Everything 1.5” sized was purchased from aliExpress.
    2” & 34mm fittings are from Brewtools.

    Checking the inside I see the sensor port they mention in the product page, I wasn't sure if I need to attach a thermowell into that sensor port, or it comes ready to directly insert the sensor

    Haven't done it yet myself but plan for next CIP clean of my SS Brewtech unitank is to use the pressure in the tank to push out the remaining yeast and trub. I think it'll work better than hoping it'll seep out of the tank on its own!

    thanks for the video. so how long it took you to clean it from start to finish? also do you think it makes sense to attach another hose to racking arm port, fill it with more pbw, and then connect 2 hoses into one and then connect it to the pump? so pump will "suck" pbw from both ports?

    • @MasteringHomebrew
      @MasteringHomebrew  3 роки тому +1

      Total cleaning time was 2 hours. Most of that time was just letting the spray ball go for 30 minutes at a time with PBW then a couple of Hot Water rinse cycles. I will be giving the racking arm hose set up you suggested a try too as it makes alot of sense! This is just the stuff i had on hand to get it cleaned this time / for the first time. I did it this way so all of the yeast and trub would cascade down to the bottom piping. It worked pretty ok but i think ill try the racking arm way too next time. I use a grant type set up with my smaller tanks that works great so all the big chunks are filtered out. This is my first time doing it completely contained like this 😬
      Thanks so much for the support and for watching! 🙌🏾

    Really great video thanks. I'm about to buy an F80 but cleaning all the ports does look a bit of a pain. Not sure alm those ports are really needed. It's a wonderful peice of kit though. Not sure which spray ball you have but only the Spike will work well with a low pressure brewing pump like the excellent Riptide. What works best is a high flow rate submersible...night and day difference for CIP

    • @MasteringHomebrew
      @MasteringHomebrew  3 роки тому

      Hi thanks! Spike definitely does not have the only quality option for micro CIP balls. I have the blichmann CIP ball that was made specifically for use with the riptide pump and im also using the micro-CIP balls from Brewtools. Spike uses the same standard Chinese CIP ball design all of these different guys are selling. Submersible pumps are nice but again using the pump from my system or the riptide pump is more than enough power to get it nice and clean without any scrubbing. This is of course a matter of preference. As are the ports. Right now I have two extra ports that I plan on filling soon. It’s definitely not for everyone but I really like it. Thanks for the love!

      @@MasteringHomebrew what in the world do you use all the accessory ports for? Off hand I can only think of a sample port, temp probe, Glycol (although these are dedicated Glycol, not just accessory ports), the top pressure, blowoff, PRV, and dry hop port, ... And that's pretty much it. So what are you using the extra like 5 ports for?!

    • @MasteringHomebrew
      @MasteringHomebrew  2 роки тому +1

      @@JoeCole1 haha well i do use 2 thermo wells but it’s totally unnecessary and mostly cause i just so happen to have two. One of the top ports is capped most of the time since i have the spunding valve on the cane but i do use it for transferring hands free from the kettle. Since i dont leave the carb stone in during the ferment anymore i have 2 capped 34mm ports on the front. Would only be one but i like to use the carb stone differently. Also the heating element port has its element installed these days as well.

      Do you think using the carb stone via the racking port is as efficient as in permanent installation in a 34mm port? I am no chemist or anything. Just wondering whether sufficient unsaturated beer can reach the stone during force carbonation.

    Are you using Brewtools CIP ball with the Riptide.? I feel Im not getting enough pressure with mine. The ball spins but it just doesn't seem powerful enough for cleaning.

    One question - I know that its nice to have a shower together with your fermenter but isn't that whats cip is all about - clean in place - so no carrying arround fermenters anymore? I only clean mine outside if it got dirty like worth was on the outside.

    • @MasteringHomebrew
      @MasteringHomebrew  3 роки тому +1

      Yea i wasnt going to shower it and dont plan on doing so in the future. I did however spill PBW all over the top of it when I tried pouring it from the bucket into the 3” opening instead of removing the entire lid for the 8” opening. I didnt want the pbw to dry and leave white stains all over the neoprene jacket and on the stainless under the jacket. So i showered it. Next time ill be adding the cleaning solutions through the 8” opening to avoid having to carry it to the shower. I did not enjoy it.

    Hey there,
    love your videos. I am having some trouble with the riptide + Brewtools CIP spray head. When I let it run it doesnt seem to have enough flow / pressure and simply trickles down the CIP head. I am using 10mm inner diameter tubung. I am wondering what I have set up wrong as the riptide gets great reviews. Any pointers? Thx

    • @MasteringHomebrew
      @MasteringHomebrew  3 місяці тому

      Ive had this happen before. It usually happens when the CIP ball is clogged or has some grain inside where the metal meets where its supposed to rotate. Could also need some lubing up. It could also be that the pump isn’t fully primed and has an air pocket inside. So its not moving the water as fast as it could be. Those are my guesses.

    Just out of interest, is that silicone tape you wrap round the hose where you've used a jubilee clip to hold the quick disconnect on?

    • @MasteringHomebrew
      @MasteringHomebrew  Рік тому +1

      It’s actually electrical tape 😅 i put it there when i used to use those hose clamps since the clamps would dig into the silicone sometimes since they had open grooves. I have since switched to the brewtools TC clamps. Have ditched the quick disconnects. I try to only use clamps with a smooth inner section so it doesnt cut into the material

    Nice setup. How much PBW solution for a F80 and what concentration? Looks pretty concentrated? Thanks. Love your videos..

    • @MasteringHomebrew
      @MasteringHomebrew  2 роки тому

      Its not too concentrated. I think the hot water + pbw gives it a milky look sometimes. I do pour a “good bit” into 20ish liters. I usually just do it by eye. I try not to over do it because pbw is kinda pricey over here. If i could guess i add around 100-200g or so. Depends on how dirty its looking.

    • @fsbbs
      @fsbbs Рік тому

      I used Grainfather kettle and fermenter over the past four years. They have their own „high performance cleaner“, which used at the suggested (lower) concentration is much cheaper and it probably is similarly effective. I consider to keep using it. David Heath also suggested it in his Videos due to the PBW price tag.
