I have a Ruger Super Redhawk 454 with a 9.5 inch barrel. When it goes off it's like a bomb! More than once after firing it I've seen people three benches & further pack up & leave. After tree or four cylinders it makes my palm a little tender but I'm smiling all the way home. Love that caliber!
I am digging that Buffalo Bore 3J stuff! From BB: 45 Colt ANTI-PERSONNEL Standard Pressure, Low Flash 225 gr. Soft Cast Hollow Nose, Gas Checked @ 1,050 fps
Excellent comparison using The Judge wheel gun, thanks Buffalo. Didn't know it can fire .454 Casuls. I hear ya' regarding the price of .410 slugs. The American made are the best. The imported one are cheaper but not as accurate. Have a good day.
should put target dots on the gel to make seperating and distinguishing them easier ... plus shoot from closer to avoid having them hit too close thus going thru already disrupted gel
That was interesting, I had no doubts that the 454 casull was going to be the baddest round in the line up, lol. The 410 slug was rather unimpressive, but not a bad option if over penetration is high on the list of concerns.
My only issue with 45/410 revolvers are why they NEVER make them in longer barrel? Sure, the cylinder itself act as a barrel extension, but it still would not hurt to have 4 inch barrel regardless of that. Also, it's funny that 410 is the cheapest among that batch of ammo. (I use 410 Winchester Super X)
I have an older judge with a 2½" cylinder and a 4" barrel. Never seen another one like it. I have the 6" or I think it's really 6.5" barrel raging judge. Supposedly, the shorter the barrel, the tighter spread pattern for .410 shot shells. Longer barrel judges have more rifling, so the wad is spinning faster out the barrel, causing the shot to spread. I think it works that way for every size, #8 shot all the way to 00 buck.
@@scoyounger Yeah. I know there's the buckshot argument, but my complain focus on the fact that the other stuff (including 410 slug) is underperforming because of the short barrel of the gun most creators get.
The gutter sight on a revolver chambered to shoot such a varied number of rounds is not good in my opinion. A Target Adjustable Steel Rear sight should be installed from the factory. Are you listening Taurus?!?!
That might be nice but I think the “gutter sight” with Taurus’s somewhat oversized fiber optic front sight is kind of a similar idea the oversized front blade sight on some .38 snub nose. The idea (I think) is that it is meant to be a 7 yard revolver made for faster “accurate enough” shots at ranges where the target might have powder burns. The judge for example with birdshot is popular for rattlesnakes that typically don’t rattle until within a couple feet of you. The sights are great for that. But it is certainly no target pistol or something I’d use for hunting.
Pretty sure they were 225 grain. It's easy to see why Buffalo Bore discontinued that bullet for their "standard pressure anti personnel" cartridge. You should try it again with their current wadcutter offering. You can't expect too much from the weakest .45 Colt round BB offers. Would love to see this again compairing some hotter .45 Colt offerings. Any video with .45 Colt is a step in the right direction so thanks!
This is all very interesting and thank you for the test, but the Raging Judge Magnum is one of the most impractical handguns ever made. The barrel is too short so it is unable to take advantage of the 454's pressure and speed. Same with the 410. And the cylinder is too long which adds to the weight of the revolver and bullet jump. A double action revolver with a 4"-5" barrel in 44 mag or 45 Colt would be lighter and squeeze out more velocity. It can't fire the 410 ammo but so what, that is not a disadvantage, because the 410 belongs in a shotgun.
I wonder how the Buffalo Bore made the biggest wound channel without expanding. Do you think it tumbled? Oh, and I had a wolf spider in my shop this, past Summer that was the size of a smallish tarantula. I am not exaggerating, either. I got a couple of cellphone pictures and everyone I showed them to was amazed at its size. I've seen some big wolf spiders but never one anywhere near that big. Several people I showed the pictures said I needed to smash it, kill it, etc. my response was, "Heck, no. Spiders eat bugs and I despise most bugs a whole lot more than spiders - and with rhe size of that thing can you imagine how many bugs it eats,".

Maybe should use 1inch pine or other wood media to measure depth. Stack it deep for heavy calibers. 🤔.

I can’t believe those hollow points didn’t mushroom on that one bullet !! Unless it didn’t get to full speed from that short barrel n distance ?
They really need 3-4 inch barrel. Even though the long cylinder add some length it's not enough to burn all the powder.

.410 slugs at 1/4 ounce are just about 110 grains, to compare to the weight of the other bullets. It's a very marginal round.
