My clutch drum just wore down to about a half a centimeter left. Those springs in the clutch break alot if u remove the cutter. The "stock" string length is too short. I do this for a living. Time is money. My fs90 is around 15 yrs old. Ive replaced 3 heads 3 clutch springs. One wt a clutch. Maybe throttle cable. I made over 100k in that time with this weedeater. Hands down the best weedeater ever made!

I noticed when you redid the clutch and incerted back into the housing and you went to turn it. There was resistance the the turn. When you bought all new housing and clutch. When you turned it. It turned freely with no resistance

What their say is the heat from the clutch slipping caused them the friction weld together. So basically your clutch is always slipping not letting the power transfer to the head.

The reason why your trimmer wont turn is because on the clutch drum it has a bearing inside and the bearing went bad and possibly did weld itself to the shaft but the real issue you have was a bad bearing that just siezed up

James Day I think I have the answer to the million dollar question How do you remove the shaft from the clutch bell So after fighting with this thing for an hour and beating my hands black and blue I realized the housing was bouncing every time I hit it I simply tightened the housing screw back down on the shaft tube and with a fairly light tap the flex shaft shot out about and inch and a half maybe you can make a new video and go viral How to save $150 lol great instructional video BTW

If you think I didn’t start with that I’m not sure what to say. I, plus four other people including the Stihl dealer’s shop, could not free that shaft. The screw holds the bearing and it came out. The shaft was seized in the drum itself. Stihl said this happens from time to time as they begin to slip they will literally weld themselves together. We also put a punch through the drum and nailed the end of the shaft and it would not separate even red hot. I appreciate your thoughts, but this was not my first rodeo and if there is anything I’m really good at in this world it’s breaking shit apart.
