It works like that because the map is made 3D and the barrel zones are 2D. The length is the same but the camera sees it differently from different angles. So the elevation difference in river makes it stick out massively
@@hiiambarney4489 The map is made to look 3D. This means the ground outside of river needs to be lifted to create a 3D feel. Gangplanks E model changes with the elevation but the hitboxes dont. So the distance doesnt change but from the right camera angle it can look like its connected (even if its not) or vice versa. Champion hitboxes work the same way. The model changes but the hitboxes dont, this is why you can miss an enemy in the river even though you clearly hit the champion model. I believe this is a mistake from riot where they bypassed a few steps by putting hidden 2D physics onto 3D models. It could be changed but it would itself cause other problems and as we know riot, that would be too much work
They should really work on the elevation of the map. Stuff are misaligned and confuse players. In Dota it has mechanics for vision, but in LoL it doesnt bring anything.

The perspective from which you play If they were projected, they would look weird in some places, but their overlap would always tell you whether the barrels can be connected or not In all honesty, all indicators should be projected onto the map just for clarity's sake

That's what the powder trail is made for I guess... I usually see if it connects by seeing it then circles if I try difficult barrels, but idk for gp mains if they use the powder trail

once i was trying to steal the dragon from outside the pit and i placed the barrel they looked like the connected i shot the first one and the second didn't go off. i would have stolen it and they got soul from that drag. really disappointed about that

It actually applies to 90% of visual and hitboxes bugs, and people still wonder if that happens.
this way placing a barrel on grass and one in river would not work, just saying. hitboxes in 3d games are almost exclusively 3d too.

I think Dota does a really bad job at elevation. Fog of war on higher elevations in a moba doesnt feel right to me.
