In this video, we explain how to use 3DOptix - cloud-based free software for optical design and simulation. We explain how to design a simple optical system consisting of lenses, mounts, mirrors, a laser source, and a detector. We perform ray tracing and calculate a simple spot diagram. This software is completely free and easy to use.

This is really cool! I wish there as the ability to add 3 axis stages though. These are more typically used for launching into fibres, rather than a 1 inch mount with fibre. Sadly not much use for me right now, but it is really easy to use and could be beneficial for many new phd students.

Hello Bob, this video is made 6 months ago. Recently, I have received an email from 3DOptix saying that they have a new version. Probably that is the reason. In any case, I hope that the new version is still free. We desperately need free software that can do this kind of thing. Sorry for the late reply! Aleksandar Haber

Hi Aleksandar, thank you for making this video. Can I ask you a question? Why I don't have the same interface as you when I open the 3Doptix online. For example, I only have "File","Edit", "Tools","View" and "Help" in the top row, and I don't have all the tools in the second row. Do you know why? Thank you very much!
