For tax-free shopping, make sure your passport is stamped at airport immigration entry point. When shopping in Japan, take your passport with you and tell the casier you would like pay your purchase tax-free. The cashier will check your passport and the immigration stamp, and then deduct the tax, most goods at 10%. Pretty straight forward, but your purchase must be over 5000 yen. Not sure how exactly how the QR code works, tried and found very confusing, not worth the hassel.

I head to Japan in a few weeks and it looks like they've combined the two QR codes (immigration and customs) into one code from the 25th January 2024. This video is GREAT!! I was so thoroughness and had lots details. It was nice that you described everything step-by-step and spoke slowly and didn't flip to different screens quickly (most videos are difficult to follow). Glad you displayed the text to explain things too. I was a bit confused when you talked about the Tax Free shopping. You first said the Tax Free QR code is included on the Japan Web App when you go through immigration and to take a screenshot. Yet, later you said "you can't use the screenshot of the QR code, and you must enter the actual QR code" So when you actually buy things, do you need to go back to the VJW app, and get a NEW QR Code which you use at retail stores (in other words, the QR code screenshot that you initially got is ONLY for getting through Customs, but NOT meant to use when buying things? Then you said the QR code is only valid for 24 hours, so does this mean that if you're shopping several days, then you'll need to get a NEW QR code EACH time you shop, from the VJW app?

hi, my friends did these procedures on visit japan web and still received the landing permission stamp at immigration. so no worries. for the moment, immigration for foreigners is still the same. only the customs changed to electronic way.
I definitely need to apply a visa since I'm from a third world country that is not exempted which means my chances are slim to none of obtaining an entry.
Got a question about the purpose of the visit I plan to travel alone but I know where I want to go is it fine to put it to others? I don't plan to get the three options just a vacation

I only did the procedures 2-3 days before my flight when everything was finalized. 2) technically you can because it's the same account of yours. but it'd be best to take a picture of the QR codes after you complete the application on your desktop.
So I'm having an issue with the "Name of Hotel and place of stay" I'm putting the name of the hotel but it's still not letting me go through. Saying it has to be in alphanumerical characters, uppercase only and symbols Am i missing something?

I was told hat the lines in airports for those with and without the QR code are same length. And while waiting for luggage there is plenty of time to fill the paper forms. So the benefit is more on the authorities rather than the travelers. What do you think?

thank you so much for watching! unlike some other countries, tax refund in Japan is done at stores where you shopped, not at the airport. so you don't have to save receipts for border checkpoint. but it's advised that you keep all of your receipts until you get home. the store cashiers will clipped necessary receipts right to your passport, just don't remove them cuz they'll be need at border check. tax free items will be sealed and you cannot open them while you're in Japan.

Update on the QR Codes: There's only 1 QR Code for Customs and Immigration and not two like last year.

As of 1/25/2024 the QR codes were unified so you will only receive one code for both immigration clearance and customs declaration.

thank you so much for watching! unlike some other countries, tax refund in Japan is done at stores where you shopped, not at the airport. so you don't have to save receipts for border checkpoint. but it's advised that you keep all of your receipts until you get home. the store cashiers will clipped necessary receipts right to your passport, just don't remove them cuz they'll be need at border check. tax free items will be sealed and you cannot open them while you're in Japan.

hi, the customs QR code is for use at special e-gate lane for people who have completed it online. I think immigration is still being done at manned gates for visitors.
