i really appreciated that you were such a beginner ! it helps those of us considering purchasing that are such noobs to the electric skateboard/skateboard world in general.
Josh Miles @46 I’m in the ‘too old’ bucket (to some), but always wanted to learn a board sport and have an out door activity with my son. He took to it fast. Naturally. Lol.
Josh :) I just brought the pint, and these tips are terrific! Thanks for taking the time to create the video, I really appreciate it. I've been thinking about getting the Flight Fins,I wonder if they "trap" you if you have to jump off the board, not sure in reality if that's the case. What is your experience with them?
When they say you are too old, you tell them the manual page 21 says “so easy grandpa can do it” and Im sure you are not one yet. 👍 Im 54 and shredding at 15mph. 🤙
too old lol? Well, there's people out there around 70 years old riding these things... too old stigma comes from too unhealthy/fit stigma for most Americans perhaps? I guess being older means you can't have fun? God bless Tony Hawk at 51 years old. Guess he should stopping doing what he enjoys and showing people up lol... makes no sense to me. I have a buddy that's mid sixties stomping most 20 years olds biking (century rides)... please lol. Young ignorant fools :-P
@@JoshMiles Being in your neighborhood is a lame excuse. My first nosedive was 20 yards from my driveway. On top of not wearing any protection you're riding around and filming yourself adding distraction to the danger of not wearing protection. Very ironic that in a video meant to inform new riders you're demonstrating extremely poor riding habits. If I were you I'd delete this video and start over again.
First thing I learned when getting on my onewheel was to always wear a helmet! I also always wear wrist guards at a minimum. If I'm trying to learn new tricks or go someplace with sketch ground I pad up the knees and elbows too.
I just bought a onewheel and I got too brave with it and maxed out at 25mph. Had my front foot too far up and it shut the board off and catapulted me. I ate it and I have a giant blister on my entire back. Jumped right back on it. It still freaks out riding the onewheel. But you’re absolutely right, freaking out from the speed wobble will make things worse
Please, please wear a helmet, even if nothing else. But seriously, you should probably wear wrist protectors of some kind. Even fingerless gloves with palm plates is enough. Even if you're really proficient, you can still hit an unexpected bump and eat it and it would suck for that to turn into a permanent head injury.
Nice video Josh, though I do really miss seeing your eyes. Looking at you tubers with sunglasses for a whole video that's really a shame! I make content outside sometimes but i always make sure to alternate with glasses on and off. Btw keep up the good work!
If you ride relaxed, straight legged longboarder style you will get fucked up when you go down, be warned.. and on these things it’s when not if.. With a straight legged stance a jarring speed wobble at speed will throw you off the board but you can ride it out and/or decelerate quickly with you knees bent.
There needs to be a warning sticker on these things about the limitations when accelerating because it has proven the brains cannot keep up with the power of the brushless motor. This is pretty dicey territory too. ITo just sell a product with no info about it, no safety training or even a video. I was testing out the torque and was quite impressed but the self balancing mechanism of the board just cannot keep up and will just dump you, and hard. I took a spill going over 20 and was super lucky not to break bones. Onewheel is gonna get sued it just a matter of time, I hope they can survive to make a better version.
Don’t apologize the way you rider. Those folks who comment with negative stuff don’t know a thing in life. You obviously do something better than they do. Life is not about riding a board. I enjoyed your vids. You are inspiration for me. I bought a pint. I have never been on a skateboard before i have the one wheel. I’m happy to say i feel more comfortable on it each day. Keep on posting. Subbed
Josh you rock, thanks for the great information. I just placed another for OneWheel XR today and just like you have no prior experience of riding a skateboard. So fingers crossed
Mines on it way! Thanks for the tips I was lucky enough to test one out before I bought one you just need to relax into it and after about 30 minutes I was going up and down on the grass through the park trails. Amazing bit of kit, I will need a helmet ⛑ to stay safe though
You're never too old to have fun, but be smart and wear a helmet. You can't make cool videos if you're a vegetable. It just takes one good tap on the street with your noggin to change your life. My 4 tips, 1. YOU'RE GOING TO FALL SO WEAR A HELMET AND OTHER PROTECTIVE GEAR. 2. Never try to push for max speed (that's when you get the nose dive and die) Try to keep the nose up. 3. If you're new, find a nice grassy field and practice (public Park or scooer field) Keep a look-out for doggy poo, stay off the golf course because golfers are grumpy as hell. 4. Yep, just get the finder. IT keeps dirt out of your shoes and keeps your socks clean.
Just got a pint yesterday. By today i was able to ride around an empty parking lot fine except i was having trouble going uphill. Had a hard time learning to lean hard. Not sure if it just instinct not to trust the board or just fatigue but towards the end going at a decent speed i tried to turn and cross a gutter at an angle and it threw me off balance and i took a bad fall. It feels like i may have cracked some ribs. I got back up and rode back down to my car ok. After lay down a bit i can really feel it but i wanted to try it again and see if i could figure out why i was having trouble going up hill. I am finding myself apprehensive now and wobbly. I will try again tomorrow but i hope i can get the hang of this?
Just got a pint It was harder to learn than I thought. I took a nasty fall and luckily I was wearing a helmet, even on baseball grass. My challenge is with with wanting to step off or lean forward/over the board. After a day of riding in practice it definitely leaves you sore, but it was fun
Yes - the Flight Fins bolt onto the carbon fiber fender. I use (and it’s recommended) to use zip ties to secure the fender when using the Fins. The fender is from Craft&Ride. They occasionally have short runs of custom colors. They’re pretty responsive if you contact them!
Thank you for the tips. I just picked on up & im very nervous. I use to skate a long time ago. But I feel that’s not going to help right off the bat. I’m nearly 50 & overweight, but I’ve been dying for one of these & it’s finally here.
Thanks for the quick response. I'm thinking about buying a Onewheel XR and doing as much research as I can because it's a huge purchase and they're not cheap. But it looks like so much fun and I would really love one. Hopefully, by the time spring comes around, I'll have one.
Sorry I was SO BAD...
Dont' apologize, we all have to start somewhere. Learning and improving is all part of the fun.
You might be to cool for a helmet but you're not to cool for diapers.
i really appreciated that you were such a beginner ! it helps those of us considering purchasing that are such noobs to the electric skateboard/skateboard world in general.
Josh Miles I know this was long ago but Angie your feet outward \/ not the same direction // you’ll lose control and never learn how to ride switch.
I'm sorry people were shitty to you. It bums me out that people would say that kind of stuff because you're new.
The fender should just come included for the price.. seriously.
You’re right
That's California for you.
The power port cover should at least
Lol
Hahahaha great video man! My biggest tip would be to not try and ride like Slydog within your first 1,000 miles xD. Excellent tips tho man. Cheers!!
That’s awesome, thanks! I love your commuting videos… And you were the inspiration for my flight fins purchase! Keep up the good stuff man!
My biggest tip is to wear a helmet and Yep, Slydog makes it look way too easy so don't even think about it.
Slydog..... you make it look far too easy lmao 🤣😅
Thanks for posting; I’m less than 3 miles on mine and wobble like your first vid. Nice to see that improvement over time!
You’ve got this!!!

you are never to old for a onewheel, keep it up :)
Just got mine today. The wobble definitely frealed me out but like you said you have to just lean back very slowly until it slows down.
Sounds like learning how to snowboard for the first time :) Thanks for the tips!
+Jack Hyer 🤘
you'd be wholly entitled to grin and say, "Eat my dust" right now. Well done :-)

They do constrain you a bit!
Where did you purchase the foot locking fender fins from, and what do you think of them?
Those are flight fins. FlightFins.com - I love them for when you're riding more aggressively. For normal cruising, I prefer without.
When they say you are too old, you tell them the manual page 21 says “so easy grandpa can do it” and Im sure you are not one yet. 👍 Im 54 and shredding at 15mph. 🤙
Best tip I can give. If you like your skin, dont drink and ride...
wear your helmet!!! 🤗 accidents are usually surprises . and so is that medical bill!
Age is just a number. Cheers

Is that a Craft & Ride Fender?
Sure is! They did a short run of a few custom colors
First tips above all, Wear at least a helmet ;)
I usually do. In the neighborhood I was feeling safe.

Well bro that’s your fault on custom and Delerium it’s advertised max speed is 20 you went five over that that’s your fault💀

lol..ppl are rude. calling my dude old
I came across a similar topic yesterday and man i say screw everyone your never too old to do something, just go ahead and do it.
+Toxin Shadow 🤘thanks brother!
Another important tip is to learn on pavement/concrete rather than grass. Grass just makes it harder to keep your balance.
Great point. I started on grass and that was a HUGE mistake.
Tip 6 wear a damn helmet!

Scott Robertson how long did it take you to master it? I’m thinking about getting one but I wasn’t much of a skater as a kid.
Good job. Your never too old. That's in the head
