As I will also have to do the 8 inch woofers. I have loved EPI for over 30 years. I will check back when finished. However I haven't been to a goodwill in Phoenix and found a pair for 4$. Everytime I go nothing. One day the Scottsdale goodwill will have the special deal for me lol.... Thank you for your time
The EPI's were a luck find in a small independent thrift store in east Mesa. Vintage audio thrifting can be very frustrating but every once in a while you find a hidden gem. Good luck with your restoration and let me know how it turns out.
I just bought a set of 70C for $35 CAD. The VC separated from the spiders. I centered the vc with a power supply, epoxy glued the cones back to the spiders and refoamed them. All in for $45. Very impressive sounding for a small 2 way. @mguess
Just picked up a pair of epi m90 at a local goodwill. Woofer and tweeters surprisingly looked to be in great condition could’ve been redone cause everything from those to the baffle,grill cloths, and cabinet look to be in fantastic condition. 20 bucks! I saw them early in the day and although I wanted them I passed it wasn’t until a couple hours later I couldn’t resist the urge of “what if someone else gets to listen to them instead” and went back to find them still there. People at the goodwills nearby will tend to only grab new speakers and older speakers regardless of how good they are go unnoticed most of the time. PS I passed the first time because just a couple days before I had bought a sansui 221 and a pair of mirage om 10s at another goodwill lol.
I sold a ton of this speaker back in the day. My favorite model. I had a set too😊. They need at least a 30 to 50 watt per channel amp. As they need to power to get the full sound out of them.
I am still trying to find a local pair of the epi magnus 12s. I know there not the super amazing speaker but it brings me back to my 11th grade year and just the vintage pioneer receiver and sony turntabe with Rick James on vinal. I cant seem to find any local but im still hoping
I have a similar pair of Sony's (SS-H2600) that I use for workbench test speakers. They sound pretty good. Keep your eyes out for another pair of EPI's, easy to repair.
Swell video on the EPI-100. They were introduced in 1970 and, according to Complete Buyers Guide 1979, they had "the kind of high frequency response we take for granted nowadays". I got mine in 1980 and dig the 45Hz (+/-3dB) bass from such a small, light speaker. Power handling is very conservatively rated and stereo imaging is surprisingly good in both depth and breadth. The 1" tweeter has an open, airy response and good dispersion. Given quality source material, they will give you excellent listening pleasure without "listener fatigue" You get a lotta bang-for-your-buck with the EPI-100.
Thanks for the comments. I really like the EPI speakers. I'm currently using them in my wood shop. Sound great. Following the release of the video I did recover the speaker grills. Now they look as good as they sound.
@@mguess- bet they look sweet. Unfortunately my 100's ain't hooked up now. Also got a pair of EPI-180's and they sound similar to the 100's but with a bit deeper bass and can get screamin' loud without distortion (the neighbors must love that). Currently have Ohm model L's and Ohm model H's in my present system. Wish I could keep all of them connected but the missus wouldn't understand. I'd probably need a flak jacket.
@@mguess- 5 sets? Awesome, what are they? Are they in different rooms? I put a "mini" hifi in the kitchen during Covid as my wife took over the living room as her home office and I couldn't really play the big stereo loud. The kitchen setup consists of; Pioneer SX-434, Nakamichi BX-1 and two speaker pairs, Boston Acoustics A-40 and Synergistics S12B. Ain't nothin' like a good hifi for a relaxing mental enema.

I've tried the chisel before but prefer the snap blade knife. I find that I have better control with that tool. However whatever tool you are comfortable with and gets the job done is the one for you.

I still use my Kenwood 40 Watt stereo with my EPI 100 speakers . Love the sound. I did repair the woofer and tweeter . Great video ..

I bought my first pair of EPI 100s back in 1973 right after I graduated from High School.
Great little speakers. It looks like we are the same age. I also graduated in 1973
I had a pair of epi three way speaker's I had a David Hafler power amp built what a killer set of speakers..
The little EPI 100's really sound good for their size. I also have a Hafler DH220 for my main power amp. I love it!

Very nice sounding smallish bookshelf speaker. I drive them with a Hafler DH-220 amp which has about 120 watts per channel.

I had these. When the surrounds rotted I replaced with Sony SS-CS5. I think miss the 8" woofers of the EPIs.

I have found that it helps to stuff wads of paper towels under the cone to hold it off the frame while you apply the glue
I agree, I've heard that the paper thing works well.
Just use a AA battery with leads to push and pull the cone when gluing. Also centers the coil so no shims required.

Never use a blade you can use a half inch wood chisel word great..
