I've been trying to learn harmonica since I was 16. My parents weren't really patient enough with me to let me learn and so I gave it up. Now that I live alone, there's no one to bother but my own ears, so I'm going at it again!
as a beginner I need to see the notes before you playing them so I know where the tune is headed... it's quite frustrating that you start playing before the notes are displayed.... but otherwise I really like this tutorial :)
Hi Matej, You have created one of my most memorial harmonica videos. It is slow - easier for a beginner to begin with,And it is done at 3 different levels. It goes to show us, the beginners, that you do not need to play notes fast to show your skills as a player.Thank you so much. And YES, I would love to listen to more of your videos in English, sorry I don't speak Croatian. All the best, and Thanks from Canada, Cheers, Don.
Thank you for this video very nice work. I am now playIng with other backing tapes Thank you for getting me past a wall that held me back for so long..... Jbensi
Very well explained for an old beginner like me....I started 3 days ago at 43 years. :-) Just a small quiestion.. Is there any possibility to describe how long a note should be played ? I listen many times trying to "copy" the melody and you style. how to learn this ? Please continue to teach !
The difference between tabs and notes is that the tabs don't have signature how long should the tone be played, so you have to figure it out by listening... but in blues - you can play same notes in many different rhythmical ways, so feel free to improvize your own way. That's the beauty of the blues... :)
Matej I WAS READING SOME OF THE COMMENTS BELOW (GOOD RESPONSE TO YOUR VIDEO) MAYBE YOU SHOULD BECOME A MUSIC TEACHER ! I THOUGHT YOU DID A WONDERFUL VIDEO. T.
Why is the video done in the theme of a professional Hohner video? You give the impression that you're a professional Harmonica player sponsored by Hohner. At least that's what I thought. I was confused by the image of the video and your warlbes, your playing is great, the warbles need some work though. Not sure if I'm mistaken but I think trills are not the same as warbles, and these are warbles. I read trills are done on a chromatic, or have something to do with a chromatic harmonica? Either way, these are warbles.
Hi! You're right, I'm not a professional player, but thanks to my harmonica lessons in Croatian that became very popular in Croatia and Serbia - I'm negotiating with Hohner to become their artist, so this video is some kind of a pilot project. :) And about warbles - I thought that shakes, warbles and trills mean the same. I found that on many sites (harpsurgery, modernbluesharmonica etc.), but now I see on wiki that there is a technique on chromatic harmonica called trill (slide shake) so I guess you're right - best way to call it would be warbles! Anyway, thanks a lot on your comment!
Bonjour à vous et bonne santé pour toutes votre famille. SVP est ce que c'est possible de faire une vidéo avec les notes de la chanson d'etta james (I'Rather go blind).merci beaucoup, et bonne continuation.
Very nice sound. I like it. I follow you to try play this slow blues.but, I found part3 fourth line tab is incorrect. I try find correct tabs, but can’t get it. Could you tell me correct tab, thank you very much.
I'm working on this, love the way you play the blues. having tabs makes it easy.I've been playing harmonica 12 years, just learned to bend, opened a new world to me.thanks Matej, if you come to Texas I will come to your show.
Hi! Thank you for your video, I turned 45 no musical , I believed it . You are great teaching. Why we did no have internet for 20 years ago? People says you can not teach old dogs!!! I do love blues, I wanted to learn harp. You made my day.! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks this was very good. Just a little feedback : in the future you might want to show on screen the next bar a little earlier, as you start playing it a fraction of second before it appears, but this enough to put off a beginner, as we miss the first couple of notes of each bar. Again thanks
Thank you. Definitely wish the tabs showed up a bit before the play so we can catch up on playing along 👍
That's so much! This was so easy and simple to read and gives me a god idea of how each note should sound!
Awesome tutorial
For one day I'd learned more than I've done for 7 years

I am sure that all tabs are correct. Can you tell me which second of the video is that part that I play? Thanks.
Listening to your performance, this section tabs should be -3’-2’’-1-2’’-2.

Susan Müller Thank you! And merry christmas to you too!
great
Good day. Very good lesson. How to download a minus of this exercise? thank
I agree, very well explained! cheers!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!
How do you get your 2 draw to sound like that!?
It takes some time to get a good control over 2 draw, because if you don't breathe correctly, you'll start to bend it and it will not sound ok.
Great lesson.. Thanks so much Sir.. Appreciate it...
Exactly the way how i like it, but do you think it is good for me as a beginner to learn your lesson by heart or should i try to do my own thing ?
You can do both - learn this to get some ideas and then try your own licks and improvise.
What is that technique called ? The one he uses to make 1 note tremble ? He usually does it when drawing last note in the line
The technique is called vibrato.
sorry you dont use paypal
What a fabulous lesson - merci Matej.

I don't know. It's some backing track that I found on net.
What do you think about the gear4music harmonica?
+The Beatles I haven't played one, sorry...
