Invisalign’s Biggest Problem
Вставка

- Invisalign aligners need to be worn consistently for most effective tooth straightening and best results.
This means only removing the aligners to eat and brush.
This is the same with braces. Braces cannot be removed because consistent wear is necessary for teeth to align properly.
In my experience as both an Invisalign patient and doctor, the benefits of aligners -- aesthetics, no diet/food restrictions, better hygiene, etc. -- far outweigh the downside of requiring discipline to wear the Invisalign.
My patient's typically form a routine for aligner wear within a week or two that becomes such a habit that they feel uncomfortable if they're not wearing the Invisalign.

@@hashling8 Hang in there! 🙂 Your teeth gradually straighten with each aligner. Teeth don’t move according to plan if they aligners aren’t being worn. 👍🏼

@@dedkavsh Idk, only thing I know it's Invisalign from Spain. But I'll ask the dentist.

Just started my clear aligners 12/7/23. I have to wear 13 trays for 2 weeks each. From start to finish my smile will change in 6 months. My insurance paid $2000 my wife works at the dental office, her company paid the additional $2000. Luckily i paid nothing out of pocket
I thought insurance not cover braces or Invisalign?
@ryanguy3214 My insurance through metlife has a $2000 ortho benefit. In most cases, braces or invisilign is more expensive and you'd owe the difference.
Invisalign has helped me get into better habit in brushing my teeth twice a day
You don't have to have them in 24/7 18 hours a day is enough
Hi 🙂
“24/7” is my way of emphasizing that the aligners should only be removed to eat and brush. If we consider that each meal is about an hour long, that’s 3 hours of no wear, plus another few minutes of brushing.
That’s about 21 hours of wear time.
Can the aligners be worn for less than 21 hours? Yes. But in my experience, that will certainly lead to less effective tooth movement and more than likely prolong originally estimated treatment time. 👍🏼
@@jetboutiqueorthodontics thank you for your relply
Why would anyone with jacked teeth not be motivated to wear them as much as possible?
A strong desire to fix one’s teeth is definitely useful, I agree. Keep in mind that some people who want to be fit still hire a personal trainer even though they may have access to an open gym. Sometimes we just need a little help. 🙂👍🏼
I had Invisalign originally but I was definitely not the type that orthodontists should be recommending it to. I’m very forgetful. So I switched to regular braces because it was still covered for a certain amount of time. Don’t make my same mistakes. You can be a really responsible person and still manage to f it up 😭

I'm scared, really scared, it feels like a huge step to make and my parents are working too hard in life for me to ask about it . . .
Understandable. Maybe you can ask them what their thoughts are about it instead of telling them you want to do it?
I wouldn’t call that a problem that would be viewed as motivation
Love the mindset! 👌🏼👍🏼
@@jetboutiqueorthodontics Invisilign gave me some really wobbly teeth, but the end results are worth the pain
@@ssaini5028 Hi 🙂 In order for teeth to be straighten with Invisalign or braces, they have to move and get wobbly.
The wobbly sensation is not felt with braces because the braces wire is holding all of the teeth together.
With Invisalign, the teeth can be felt loose when the aligners are removed to eat because there is no wire holding them together. However, once the aligner is put back in the mouth, all of the teeth are being held together again.
For me the worse part is that you will have to use a retainer for the rest of your life. Otherwise all work done go back to where it started, they say…
it’s the same thing with braces to
you jus wear retainer and night .
Retainers are eventually for nights only. I use it and my spouse does it too.
Currently I don’t know if it’s best to take them out when you have a cold sore. I know this isn’t relivent but it would help if I had a little gyide
I just started Invisalign
Can somebody solve my problem ?
Saliva keeps accumulating in the spaces present between my teeth and the aligners
What should I do ?
Some people can experience excess saliva, and others, dryness.
How long have you been in treatment? If you just started, maybe it’s a matter of getting used to wearing the aligner and allowing your salivary glands to adjust.
If this has been an ongoing issue, I would have you orthodontist check the fit of the aligners ti ensure there is not an excessive amount of space between your teeth and aligners. This may mean the aligners are not seating properly.
@@jetboutiqueorthodontics It has been a week on my first aligner, and I don't feel much pressure (only while removing them to eat or brush) so I dont know if these are seating properly or not
And still Some saliva accumulates !
@@Mohammad_Ayaan29 It’s okay if you don’t feel much pressure. Every one reacts to the treatment a little differently. Also, keep in mind that every aligner has certain tooth movements programmed into it, so some aligners may not cause discomfort, but others may.
As for the saliva, hopefully that gets better as your mouth gets accustomed to having something foreign in it. You’re only one week into treatment, so that’s encouraging. I didn’t have saliva build-up issues, but I did experience a dryer mouth.
And here I am crying because I hate them and can’t get them off
Hey doc, so i first got braces when i was in my ealry teens (im 19 now btw) and since i was so young when i got braces i didnt really have responsibility to wear my retainers after. So since i havent wore my retainers in years they obviously dont fit now and my teeth arent badly messed up but they still got shifted quite a bit, so when i get the money for teeth treatment again should i get braces again or invisialign (cuz im of course more responsible now)
Hey! Thanks for the question. The decision you make between braces or Invisalign is a personal one. I have treated myself with both Invisalign and braces, and I much prefer Invisalign. That being said, there are many factors to consider. When it’s time, visit with an orthodontist for an evaluation and ask them to walk through your options.
@@jetboutiqueorthodontics alright thanks a lot! Yeah I'll make sure with my orthodontics aswell but I am also going more towards invisalign!
@@RealNitsua Anytime!
So does that mean after the 2 years of wearing them properly, would you not need to keep wearing them every 5-10 years? Surely teeth throughout your lifespan will revert? I’m so confused how can I straighten for life and never worry about them again?
After an orthodontist straightens your teeth with full-time wear with Invisalign, retainers will be made for you to wear to sleep every night.
Retainers are clear and plastic, just like the Invisalign trays.
Wearing the retainers every night to sleep should maintain the alignment of all of your teeth for life.
@@jetboutiqueorthodontics ofcourse! Makes sense, you just have to commit for the rest of your life 😅 thank you! Will start to book a consultation. 🥰
@@ARI-kn3wz That’s awesome! Congrats. 👏🏼
Also, don’t get discouraged about “retainers for life” to keep your teeth straight after Invisalign treatment. Our teeth naturally want to shift as we age, even for people who never had orthodontic treatment. If those people who never had braces or Invisalign want to prevent their teeth from shifting in the future, a retainer would also benefit them. 👍🏼
I only have to wear them 16/7
Can Invisalign also move teeth in a way to create space for other teeth. (Pull)
Yup! Invisalign can be used to apply pulling forces to teeth. It can also be used to create spacing around teeth (an example would be to prepare a patient’s tooth positioning to get crown or veneer work).
if you wanted them to be less jutted out, they should have given you more trays to fix that.
And then wear the retainers for the rest of your life or they’ll go crooked again 😢
Yes. But thats for everyone. Our teeth will shift as we age, even for people who never had orthodontic treatment. The only way to prevent this is to wear a retainer every night for as long as we want our teeth to remain straight.
Do these only move the front 6 teeth?
@@jetboutiqueorthodontics DR.Smile (invisalign) Provided me with a simulation and it only shows my front 6 teeth (upper and lower) moving. I don't know but to me this seems very excessive, treatment is for 6 months (12 trays). Awesome that you're a cyclist! I've never had a cyclist patient, and so your scenario has never come up. My suggestion would be to remove your aligners when you need to snack/eat and then swish your mouth with drinking water before putting the aligners back in. Brushing your teeth can wait until after you're finished riding. I don't brush my teeth after every meal -- it's not realistic or sustainable. I got my Invisalign last week, a little updated here with the new Invisalign. Now you don’t have to remove them to eat, you can eat with your trays in. You now have to only remove them to brush and floss. And treatment process and its length will vary case by case. My husband’s teeth got fixed in just 4 months. It feels very odd to eat with them on. I wouldn’t personally do it and I have been wearing my aligners coming up to a year next month. Is there a reason to eat with them on when you will have to remove them to rinse the food out/brush after you eat?
@@lunaflowers7992 It’s just that my dentist informed me that if I eat with them in then each tray stays in for 4 days only before the next tray. What I tell my patients is the most important thing is to wear the aligners 24/7 (only to be removed to eat and brush -- so its really like 21 hours a day, but you get the point). well my teeth are extremely crowded and hurt because of it. This plus maybe a tooth pull could help that tremendously.
More than the treatment … for years afterwards you have to wear retainers … and if you don’t the teeth move again!! So disappointed …
This is true. What is also true is that teeth shift as we age, no matter if we had teeth straightening treatment or not (this is due to the changes in the ligaments and tissues between our teeth). The only way for mostly anyone to maintain straight teeth well into old age is to wear retainers to sleep at night.
So if teeth will shift no matter if orthodontic treatment has been performed or not, for me, it’s worth getting the smile I want now and maintaining it for the long-term. 👍🏼

I have heard that Invisalign can expand teeth while straightening as well

I cannot offer a treatment recommendation to you without performing an evaluation of your teeth and bite.

I grind my teeth at night and I have clear retainers, Will the crack?
It’s unlikely that your aligners will crack, but it is possible. It’s better that your aligners are feeling the brunt of the force, and not your teeth. Even if the aligners do happen to crack, you’ll be using a new aligner set every 1 - 2 weeks, so you should be good. 👍🏼

Yep, me too. It's a MYTH that you have to wear them 24/7 or, as they usually tell you, "at least 22 hours per day". They just tell you that because they KNOW you will not wear them 22-hrs per day. On average I probably wear mine about 18-hrs per day, and my teeth are moving perfectly, to the point where my dentist told me that maybe we can stop treatment early.
WITH THAT SAID, I'm NOT advising anyone to wear them just 16 hrs per day. You should strive to listen to what your dentist tells you. Don't listen to me. I'm just describing my experience.
Certain factors dictate progress - age etc lol
Invisalign ruined my life. It gave me unbearable tinnitus
Sorry to hear that. I’ve never heard of or experienced orthodontic treatment causing tinnitus. Hope your symptoms improve.
@@jetboutiqueorthodontics thank you, I appreciate that.
Google “Invisalign and tinnitus” and you will see dozens of posts claiming the same problem
That's not the biggest problem. That is the bite doesn't close after
Posterior open bites can close and do for a lot of people
Aligners should not be put in warm water because it is made of plastic.
I 100% agree with you that aligners should not be left in warm water or hot water, especially to soak them for cleaning.
However, my experience is that they can be left in the mouth while drinking liquids at hot temperatures so long as small sips are taken and the liquid is not swished around in the mouth on top of the aligners.
The goal when treating myself with Invisalign aligners-and when treating my patients-is for the aligners to be worn as much as possible throughout the day, and only removed to eat solid foods.
It’s more important for me that the aligners are worn for a sufficient amount of time to be effective, and less important that they are removed while drinking hotter liquids.
@@jetboutiqueorthodontics Okay, great to know! Thank you for your time to answer. The more someone knows about this subject, the easier it becomes to indeed wear them well. Personally, I don't have much experience with aligners yet, which is why I try to do some extra research.
@@JamesBond-lp9wr that’s awesome that you’re learning! Love that. And I’m glad you find some of the info here useful 👍🏼
