We know month to month fluctuations occur for almost any type of product. The important thing is the overall trend, likely at least quarterly and yearly trends. Reporting on month-to-month fluctuations doesn't yield much value unless there's a significant event that can be directly linked to the fluctuation, like a major tariff adjustment, a vehicle recall, a vehicle fault, an incident, or even an interest rate rise or hold. Anyone who listens to the media about declining sales on a whim, with no other supporting evidence, is not paying attention to reality or is in denial of reality. The long-term EV trend is up and isn’t slowing down. Month to month data can be misleading if taken out of context and other relevant factors aren't appropriately considered and taken into account.

Viking: Tesla sales up 76% in China. Frankly I'm surprised... Then proceeds to show the sales graph showing China sales literally up 75% then down 60% every alternate month. How are you surprised? 🤣🤣

In fairness to the Viking, he puts up the sales graph so you can see the real numbers and use the statistics whatever way you choose or prefer. You are correct that the sales swing wildly month to month so a month on month comparison is useless really. But comparing to previous sales in May of 2020 (11,000), 2021 (22,000), 2022 ( 10,000) and 2023 (41,000) shows that May 2024 at 56,000 sales was the best May on record by a long way.

The latest evidence shows that the world’s largest banks, the majority of which are headquartered in G7 nations, continue to pour fuel on the fire of coal expansion. As the G7 summit approaches, there is a chance for countries to match their rhetoric with action. It is not enough for governments and regulators to “call on” private finance to end their support for coal power. The continued financing of coal by the private sector shows that countries must take concrete steps to implement policies that stem the global flow of funds that fuel the expansion of the coal industry and redirect them to clean energy investments. While attention is often directed at public fossil fuel subsidies for coal (which are a problem), the billions of dollars in commercial financing for the coal industry’s expansion cannot be ignored. Commercial banks provided a staggering $470 billion to the coal industry between 2021 and 2023, money that could have otherwise been channelled into clean energy investments, grid infrastructure improvements, and energy efficiency. And the majority of this financing comes from financial institutions headquartered in G7 countries. Collectively, these banks provided $101 billion for coal development in the form of loans and facilitated bonds between 2021 and 2023. Topping the list of offenders are US and Japanese banks, which are the largest coal lenders in the world. Bank of America, actually increased its funding of the coal industry by 30% between 2016 and 2023. It provided a whopping $6 billion in loans and facilitation of capital market issuances to the coal industry in the last three years. For perspective, $6 billion is the size of the entire GDP of the Maldives. Japanese banks are not faring better. Coal financing between 2021 and 2023 remained dominated by its megabanks, Mizuho ($8.1 billion), MUFG ($6.1 billion) and SMBC ($4.7 billion). Estimates suggest that the absolute greenhouse gas emissions associated with the activities financed by commercial banks in G7 countries are more than the combined emissions of Germany, Italy, the UK, and France. While banks do not directly produce all these emissions, they are borne out of their lending and investment activities of companies that they support.

In May 2023 Tesla sold 77,695 vehicles from the Shanghai factory. Of these 35,187 units were exported out of China and 42,508 sold in China.
In May 2024 Tesla sold 72,573 vehicles from the Shanghai factory. Of these, 17,358 units were exported out of China, and 55,215 sold in China.
I guess you can always spin a positive story, and it is true the domestic Tesla sales in Cina is up significantly from 2023 to 2024, but if you look at total sales, which is what matters for Tesla, the total Tesla sales in May 2024 of cars made in China is down 6.6% compared to May 2023.
Maybe 6.6% sales drop is not a disaster, but remember the overall Global goal (before the year started) was to sell 25% more cars in 2024 than in 2023, so you better hope US and German build Teslas sell better.

Tesla is still doing well all over the world, obviously because of its good quality cars, but is already blown away by the diversity and high quality of NEV-vehicles in China. As Tesla will not be more innovative and does not generates in short time new popular cars (no Cybertruck, no Tesla transport truck, no sportscar, but new model 2, model S, coupe), it will become a second class EV producer in a few years.

@@larryc1616 Because Tesla wants to keep the US built Model 3 & Y for the US, because of the $7,500 incentive that Canada only have $5,000 from Federal Government. Some provinces such as Québec, BC, PEI that have some incentive over & above the Federal incentive.

Model Y is being treated as the benchmark by other manufacturers. It's competitors don't stand out from each other, but everyone trying to match Y specs and beat its price highlights what a good car it is.
