I've met Tom Pierson and Rachel Orey on several occasions. They are the real deal. I rode with Peter Campbell. Peter and Buck were good friends. I was fortunate that I met Peter at the exact same time I was starting to ride so it's all I know. Peter start out riding with Ray. Ray encouraged him to go see Tom Dorrance. The education I got has been priceless but at the same time I know I am just scratching the surface. It is has been hard to find anyone that fit me after Peter died and I dought I ever will. Don't take a good teacher for granted sometimes they only come around once in a lifetime.

Lord your making me realize my years lol. Like you I’ve met a few people that I admire so so much! I was lucky enough to spend time with one of the last colonels in the United States Calvary ! He was very old but still riding and judging international events. I know you’ve heard the saying “ they seemed part of the horse” . He really did !!!!! He was loaded with wisdom without trying to tell you exactly what to do when to do right now. Once he was riding a really beginning horse just learning. Someone drove to close with a loud tractor and she spooked.. they go tearing across the pasture he steers her to a pond. We get there and he’s comforting the poor girl and made it all better lol. All he said was at his age it’s less brutal to come off in the water !! My point being he didn’t blame the mare he just made sure that that the tractor monster wasn’t anything to be terrified of. That’s the kind of teacher you can only pray for !!!!!

I'm so glad you're back. I so agree with everything your about. I'm a 73 yr old woman with my horse Gypsy. I've had her for 8yrs. She will be 13 in April. Beautiful Moarab Bay. She's my bucket list and I spend a lot of time with her every day.My relationship with her is everything. I take total care of her. I keep her at a farm 3 miles from my Apt. She keeps me healthy and young. 🥰 My kids all live out of state. So my life totally revolves around her. ( I live in Saginaw) I still ride but not as much as I use to. Sorry, I'm rambling on... love watching your videos and your journey. I also learned a lot from watching videos and reading by some of your favorite trainers too. I did have two horses when I was a kid. QH and TW. Great experience and wonderful memories ❤️

Good to hear your voice and see how your horses are doing. I am now 84 and returning after a year offline. Loved your video about your Polish Arab. I laughed all the way thru it. Every good thing you said about him, my response was ‘but he’s an Arab! He’s supposed to be that way! Warmed my heart. Bless you and yours.

Brandy, my first riding experience was trail riding on my own at a dude ranch. I kept begging to go riding at the dude ranch. I also kept begging for a horse. When I was 12 years old my parents bought me a yearling Mustang stud colt. I loved the horse, but I really didn't have the experience to train this horse and didn't have the skills. I learned a lot about horses by making mistakes.
My mother had lived on a cattle ranch and taught me to be gentle with horses because she hated the way the cowboys treated there horses and encouraged me to gently train horses. I love training and riding horses.
I train the horses reining to put a good handle with as light handed as possible because it teaches them to be responsive.
The horses that taught me the most was Mustang mares that had been abused and it took a lot of time and gentle handling to get them to trust me.
    Every horse teaches you something.
I watch a lot of videos, Elisa Wallace is awesome working with wild horses and is an ambassador for the Mustangs. I plan on training wild Mustangs.

Where's Clover? I need to see her in every video now! She's the sweetest little kitty ever, and I just love how she sucks up for attention. The dog is sweet too, but I love Clover the most.
I also really love the advice you gave here. I'm fairly new to your channel, and I'm learning that you are very deserving of respect, for your philosophy, for how you do things, and so, so much for your honesty!
Thank you so much for this! I will watch many many of your older videos, as well as the new ones. All the best to you! ❤❤❤

Thank you very much Brandi. Cinder is so cute. I remember when you got her as a puppy. I couldn't attend, it was night here. When I first took lessons, I felt lost too. I no longer ride though. Dressage is beautiful, a calm discipline, as long as it doesn't put too much mental pressure on the horse. You are right about daughters listening to others rather than their own mom. As teens, relationship is sometimes difficult too in that sense!

Loved this video. I also stated buying DVDs and watching certain professionals that I researched and knew had good methods with the horse in mind or that really help tThe rider be better FOR THE HORSE. I didn’t want to just learn stuff. I have gone through a long period in my adult life not being able to ride or take lessons due to health issues and I wanted to immerse myself in educating myself with great information.
I was lucky to have a few amazing instructors from college that are known in the industry and had work with some of the greats from around the world (Before that I was just taking 1 lesson a week at a large lesson barn). After school I was back to looking for a great quality instructor that would teach me the right way. Teach me the what, why, where, when and how of everything I was being taught when riding in s lesson and around the barn. I was lucky I could call my college instructor and found a older German woman who was well known in my area of New England. I have had to stop riding over the past 10 years but I am constantly watching my DVDs and searching for videos of other riders that post lesson and clinic videos with good quality or well known instructors (there are tons on UA-cam).
One of my favorite training DVD sets for any level is Jane Savoie Happy Horse Training course. It is detailed and structured to help solve problems. I also have been studying rider biomechanics videos by Wendy Murdoch and Mary Wanless. Rider biomechanics is so important.

I totally agree. I used to watch anything and everything until I found what works best for me. There's so much good stuff out there but so much that doesn't have the horses best interest in mind. I have Jane Savoie's books and love them.

Happy to have you back Brandi!! makes me a bit sad thinking about the quality of trainers i’ve run into the past few years :( hopefully i’ll find one i agree with soon. seems like hardly any take into account the feelings of the horse even in this very horsey area of new england

      @Caitlin
I am also from New England area and I agree with you. I have seen a experienced very few instructors that teach first for the welfare of the horse and so many seem to skip over the fundamentals or take the time to educate themselves on even the basics of good and correct rider biomechanics. So many instructors rush students through walk trot and go to the quickly to cantering and jumping.

@@VersatileHorsemanship I just think it would be fun to meet. There are several people in your neck of the woods whom I see on Facebook. However, at 81 1/2 I am still not ready to move… ever! We moved 11 times in the first 4 1/2 years we were married. I’m done! I have to drive 40 minutes to ride a horse, but I only ride once or twice a week.

It’s possible. Licking the wood on the bed is something she’s done since we first brought her home. She has never attempted to chew anything, isn’t excessive about it and stops the moment I ask her to. I just find it very odd and need to remember to mention it to the vet. Besides that funny little quirk, she’s the most perfect pup ever ❤️
