As someone who has known funeral directors, those personalities are 100% accurate. People who work in mortuary services have a very dark sense of humor. Making jokes about death is super accurate, but it's well understood that the humor is meant as a coping mechanism and not genuine disrespect. The welfare of clients is paramount. It's often a very hard time for grieving families, so the humor vanishes when there are clients in earshot.
Such a great detail to have Grunkle Stan’s hand still bandaged from the pipe that hit it in the credits of the episode before last. Just a subtle thing Alex put in to say “We haven’t forgotten. This stuff’s still going on.”
You know it makes sense why Robbie was so disgusting during the blind date. He knew his friend had a crush on her, so he was probably deliberately trying to sabotage it, but in the end he did truly like her as well, huh.
"Truly" is questionable, since he was roof'd out of his mind on love potion. Yeah, yeah, a supplementary book published a decade later says "oh yeah, totes wore off after a few minutes, it did. For sure. He just acted the same way after that time period, completely unlike how he acted last time he was infatuated and instead like when he was still under its spell, because... Otherwise Mabel did a really irredeemable act. So it totally wears off instantly, which is why Love God says it needs to be used carefully, because instantly wearing off things need careful use."

That sort of awakening (along with support from Mabel) probably encouraged him enough to try and commit to the relationship.
This is the episode that really makes you realize Mabel's biggest flaw... meddling in other people's lives. Especially when they ask her not to, but she doesn't listen because she's convinced that she knows best.
I mean her real biggest flaw stems from her self-centeredness. Being selfish on its own is not inherently bad. People need to be selfish, to look out for and take care of themselves. But when that selfishness gets in the way of rationality and common sense? That’s when it becomes a problem.
Personally, I don't think it's simply because she THINKS she knows best, but that she WANTS to have it her way. I'd explain why, but that'd be spoiler territory. Mostly. It's clear from Episode One that Mabel wants this ideal "Perfect" summer where she has adventures, mends hearts, finds romance of her own and has new friends and her trusty brother by her side; maybe even helping him with these things too. Problem being that she can't handle it when life proves her wrong and shows that people simply move on to different paths. And knowing what I know, I can understand why she'd feel that way, I went through the same thing multiple times, but how the show handles it is iffy at best. Again, I'd explain why, but Spoilers. Just basically know that she THINKS she knows best and WANTS her perfect outcome; like a Utopian.

As a guy into knives and shurikens in high school (still like them today) it is mostly because we like how they look design wise, color wise, the weight of them, oh they hit target boards when we throw them. Most of us knife guys are really harmless we just like them the same way someone would like bugs, or beanie babies, it is just hard to articulate why we like them at that age; also could be a minor autism thing given some things I learned about myself

Journal 3 added an extra thing that sort of makes the ending with Robbie more OK. Apparently Love God’s love potions wear off after 3 hours. If the couple weren’t fated to be beforehand, then when the effects expire they’d forget everything that happened between them and go back to their normal lives. If it was true love however, then the affected would continue to be together. So Robbie’s love is real (he and his GF even do a thing for the Gravity Falls ARG that was recently made; don’t look it’s post-S2 spoilers), and the love potion in this world is less morally terrible compared to other media like Twilight Zone and Harry Potter though still really bad.
I'm still the emo kid who likes knives lmaoo, I have this nice bright blue, 3 inch serrated survival blade my cousin gave to me around a decade ago. It has a stick of flint so I can make sparks for fire (actually takes a decent amount of effort to work, I tired it while camping), has a window breaker point (which Ive been told most likely wont work), and a seat belt cutter (not sure if it works), it even used to have a little flashlight on it, but I lost it while trying to change the batteries. Ive also got a nice red shelled 3 inch blade with a finger hold, but since its spring activated, its not legal in my state (NY). I also have a practice butterfly knife my dad got me for fun, but Im not good at it whatsoever
One thing to add for this episode that Hirsch (or some of the writers, I do not fully remember) mentioned at one point; Love God's potions actually do wear off after a period of time, and the people affected either fall in love or out of it naturally. Also, Alicia, you're a real one for standing by your principles.

Funniest sequence in animation, perhaps even television or any media, right here. 11-12 jokes in a row with little to no breaks in between. Have there been funnier jokes than an individual part? Definitely, before and after in this show especially, but the whole thing going from “A Letter ripped!” to “Y’know Soos, being loved is overrated” had me in stitches. And it all started thanks to Brian Dole(?), the line producer (the guy who makes the general timeline for the production but otherwise doesn’t have much else to do with the writing phase) as the writing team knew they wanted to do something with a balloon and couldn’t figure out what exactly before Brian spoke up with “How about the Balloon reads ‘I Heart Kids’ and then later ‘I eat Kids’?” During the sketching/storyboarding process when Alex is doing rough voices for all the characters involved, when they get to Charlie asking his mom if they’re going to get eaten, he inserted Duel of the Fates from Star Wars Episode I as the shot zoomed out to the burning balloon face too. So funny.

I never understood why there are so many episodes or movies where the characters manipulating someone’s mental state to be happy about something the original person would hate being considered a good thing like what they did to Foxy in chicken little is messed up and they acted like it was better for her. I’m glad psychonauts 2 depicted this as a terrible crime within their organization and had a whole storyline explaining why this is obviously a bad thing to do someone.

People got really upset at the ending of this episode, because it seemed like Robbie and Tambry were only still together because of the potion. The writer later explained in a lore book that the potion wore off over time and they genuinely developed feelings for each other.
Yeah. It's a fine explanation but up sucks that you need outside confirmation and don't get that from the ep. it would have been better if they used the anti-love which says "reverse the effects of love potion" and it just... doest do anything

Gravity Falls is very often morally gray, this is just one example. And not removing the potion is a subversion of the trope, which Gravity Falls also often does. I get being upset about it, and this example is particularly dark, sure, but it's very very on brand for the show.
I did not remember that Thomson had actually planned that at the end and i was kinda sad about I'm being the but of the joke again but it's kinda cool (if still a bit sad) that decided to fix things that way.

I think Mable is is a type of person to be selfishly selfless. I remember people being frustrated with this episode because Mable couldn't bring herself to use the Anti-Love potion to cancel out a potion that created artificial love. People believed if Mabel used the Anti-Love potion, there was a chance it wouldn't work because it proved the love between Rob and Tembry was the real deal.
Instead of getting the toxic friend group together, they should have used the time to spray the anti-love and shown that yes, it wasn't the potion keeping them together. Instead, we got slapped with a bandaid later on about the love-effect being short-lived.
I know some people don't like this episode cause of the whole love potion thing and it seeming..... let's say borderline illegal... cause it's a child playing match maker but isn't that what cupid does? Only difference is it's a fictional being so were okay with it. Simply put anytime we personify any thing that's an internal chemical process like love, be it with cupid, Mable, etc, we add in aspects that aren't part of the equation and make things that come from a place of simply trying to make sense of them seem worse than anything that's really there.
Finding out about Robbie's family is so funny, because it kind of makes it seem like he's being this dark edgelord "nobody understands me, everybody hates me" kid as an act, and he knows it. He has a supportive, loving family who want to help him and be there for him, and he shuns them out of a need to feel neglected and lonely because that's what he thinks is cool, and they in turn totally let him be that way. He's the epitome of "it's just a phase", just acting that way to be different from everybody else. The perfect teen emo boy.

The dumb part is that it’s confirmed the love potion wore off and that Robbie and Tambry genuinely like each other, so the chase was pointless.

I kinda want to give Robbie the benefit of the doubt that the reason he was acting so disgusting and unpresentable at the diner was because he knew his friend wanted to ask her out and he was honoring the bro code by sacrificing his chance at a girlfriend for his homie in the most Robbie way possible... however, this is also the same piece of crap that tried to use a sketchy magic music disc thingy to enslave Wendy's mind so she wouldnt break up with him and stay madly in love with him so idk honestly.
Journal 3 added an extra thing that sort of makes the ending with Robbie more OK. Apparently Love God’s love potions wear off after 3 hours. If the couple weren’t fated to be beforehand, then when the effects expire they’d forget everything that happened between them and go back to their normal lives. If it was true love however, then the affected would continue to be together. So Robbie’s love is real (he and his GF even do a thing for the Gravity Falls ARG that was recently made; don’t look it’s post-S2 spoilers), and the love potion in this world is less morally terrible compared to other media like Twilight Zone and Harry Potter though still really bad.
I'm still the emo kid who likes knives lmaoo, I have this nice bright blue, 3 inch serrated survival blade my cousin gave to me around a decade ago. It has a stick of flint so I can make sparks for fire (actually takes a decent amount of effort to work, I tired it while camping), has a window breaker point (which Ive been told most likely wont work), and a seat belt cutter (not sure if it works), it even used to have a little flashlight on it, but I lost it while trying to change the batteries. Ive also got a nice red shelled 3 inch blade with a finger hold, but since its spring activated, its not legal in my state (NY). I also have a practice butterfly knife my dad got me for fun, but Im not good at it whatsoever

One thing to add for this episode that Hirsch (or some of the writers, I do not fully remember) mentioned at one point; Love God's potions actually do wear off after a period of time, and the people affected either fall in love or out of it naturally.

Apparently, the scene with the I EAT KIDS ballon had Duel of the Fates from Starwars as a placeholder song before they got original music.
Funniest sequence in animation, perhaps even television or any media, right here. 11-12 jokes in a row with little to no breaks in between. Have there been funnier jokes than an individual part? Definitely, before and after in this show especially, but the whole thing going from “A Letter ripped!” to “Y’know Soos, being loved is overrated” had me in stitches.
And it all started thanks to Brian Dole(?), the line producer (the guy who makes the general timeline for the production but otherwise doesn’t have much else to do with the writing phase) as the writing team knew they wanted to do something with a balloon and couldn’t figure out what exactly before Brian spoke up with “How about the Balloon reads ‘I Heart Kids’ and then later ‘I eat Kids’?” During the sketching/storyboarding process when Alex is doing rough voices for all the characters involved, when they get to Charlie asking his mom if they’re going to get eaten, he inserted Duel of the Fates from Star Wars Episode I as the shot zoomed out to the burning balloon face too. So funny.
I like this episode solely for the Stan hot air balloon plot line and it conclusion. It's great.

I never understood why there are so many episodes or movies where the characters manipulating someone’s mental state to be happy about something the original person would hate being considered a good thing like what they did to Foxy in chicken little is messed up and they acted like it was better for her. I’m glad psychonauts 2 depicted this as a terrible crime within their organization and had a whole storyline explaining why this is obviously a bad thing to do someone.

People got really upset at the ending of this episode, because it seemed like Robbie and Tambry were only still together because of the potion. The writer later explained in a lore book that the potion wore off over time and they genuinely developed feelings for each other.
Yeah. It's a fine explanation but up sucks that you need outside confirmation and don't get that from the ep. it would have been better if they used the anti-love which says "reverse the effects of love potion" and it just... doest do anything

Gravity Falls is very often morally gray, this is just one example. And not removing the potion is a subversion of the trope, which Gravity Falls also often does. I get being upset about it, and this example is particularly dark, sure, but it's very very on brand for the show.

All I’ll say is that I’ve watched Pyrocynical’s fanbase go from roasting him constantly as a joke, to genuinely hating him.
Though I think it’s mainly because he rarely posts main channel videos anymore.
I remember people being frustrated with this episode because Mable couldn't bring herself to use the Anti-Love potion to cancel out a potion that created artificial love. People believed if Mabel used the Anti-Love potion, there was a chance it wouldn't work because it proved the love between Rob and Tembry was the real deal.
Instead of getting the toxic friend group together, they should have used the time to spray the anti-love and shown that yes, it wasn't the potion keeping them together. Instead, we got slapped with a bandaid later on about the love-effect being short-lived.
That is the minimum amount of pickles for a sandwich like that.

I know some people don't like this episode cause of the whole love potion thing and it seeming..... let's say borderline illegal... cause it's a child playing match maker but isn't that what cupid does? Only difference is it's a fictional being so were okay with it.
Simply put anytime we personify any thing that's an internal chemical process like love, be it with cupid, Mable, etc, we add in aspects that aren't part of the equation and make things that come from a place of simply trying to make sense of them seem worse than anything that's really there.
