I hope I don't embarrass Oscar with this memory:... I had heard he liked good pineapple; to thank him for inviting me to his master class at the MAA in 1971, I ordered a pineapple from Dôle in Hawaii. When I took it to him, he invited me in, to share it with his wife and him. He was learning a new piece--doing exactly as he had taught us: cadenced slowly, phrase-by-phrase ... perfectly even, at first mechanical, working out the best fingering and position--experimenting. Then, he played a recording of Segovia performing the same piece. He listened, shook his head, disconsolate, and said, "Why do I even bother!" He put the guitar down, unboxed the pineapple, sliced it, and we ate.. . . I also remember when in class Oscar lost patience with me and admonished me to ""Learn to count!!
"Dole" has the image of a company associated with oligarchic practices carried out in South America, Africa such as exploitation of workers, corruption of power and support for coups d'état. I won't go into the validity of this image.

o.Ghiglia, segovia マスタークラスに参加するカレを見た。誠実な印象は演奏に反映している。後に、初のニホンへ。おとなしい音楽を鑑賞する当時のニホンの聡明期を継承せしguitaristと伴にする青年ボクがいた。演奏後のカレの話に、｢ニホン人は静かで私の演奏はどうだったかが分からなかった｣と。海外から思えば、納得したものだった。今カレは巨匠としたjp専門誌を眺めて感慨無量か。

Luthier Leone Sanavia made some guitars for Maestro Ghiglia
LEone Sanavia was a furniture maker who eventually did some guitars...that actually sucked major donkey ass so Segovia never used them.
Segovia was a master but before that he was a teacher.
