The thing with the wayward children series is that I think they’re more of a social commentary through a fantasy lens rather than a fantasy book you read for the fantasy. When reading them with this in mind I find them so captivating
I just finished the trilogy, and Siege and Storm (the next book after Shadow and Bone) and it's honestly SO much better than Shadow and Bone. There's much more action, you meet the best character of the series (Nikolai) and it really sold me back into the series!
You described Little fires everywhere so well! I absolutely adore the way Celeste Ng analyzes her characters because the way she writes them makes them feel so real.
I definitely think you should continue with the Grisha trilogy! I personally think it gets better with each book. The first is my least favorite and the last is my favorite. But it also just depends on everyone’s individual tastes. I love the magic system, the character development, and the friendship/relationship building in these books, especially in the second and last books! And Josh and Hazel was fantastic! I recommend The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang since you liked that read!!
Okay, but have you read The Proposal yet??? It was just as good as The Wedding Date. I didn't like Shadow & Bone as much as SoC, definitely a glow up, but I thought it was worth reading despite being VERY much early 2010s YA. Lol. I don't understand the pull of the Darkling either. Great villain? Yes. Would I bang him? Nah, I have self-respect.
Well it's November now but I just started reading Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen M McManus. Less than 50 pages in and I'm LOVING it! Not surprised, McManus absolutely wowed me with One of Us is Lying so I had high expectations.
I’m loving your honest reviews of books that are super popular on booktube and other booktubers gush about. Not that’s there’s anything wrong with loving them, but I like to hear that’s someone doesn’t always like them.
I loved this wrap up! Most wrap ups I watch just show each book and basically say "I loved this" "I didn't like this", but you got into the nitty-gritty of why you liked it/didn't like it & took your time on each book. I don't know, I just loved that! Been watching your videos for a long time now & love them so much! x
I love how you went into so much detail about these books! Usually wrap ups are just a list of books and some short opinions but these were full on reviews. I particularly loved the ones about the series. I haven’t read Shadow and Bone but I have read Six of Crows and loved it. I didn’t realise they were in the same world when I did that! I would recommend carrying on just so you have full context of the world
I can totally relate with you in wanting to know every detail about a fantasy world. I haven't read the Wayward Children series yet, but I was kind of worried that they were too short. But I will still try them! Love seeing you upload, Zoe! You are one of my favorite booktubers!
Siege and Storm is better than Shadow and Bone on its own merits, BUT(!!) you should especially read the trilogy so you can read and have proper context for the Six of Crows duology.
I'm currently reading The Girl They Left Behind by Roxanne Veletzos and I love it so much! I've been in a reading slump for nearly two months now and I've already read more pages in a day than I have since December
I felt the same way about Every Heart A Doorway. I was thinking it was just me but I’m so happy to hear someone else didn’t think it lived up to the hype.
The Bear and the Nightingale books were my favorites for Jan, Feb, and March. Currently reading Dress Codes for Small Towns by Courtney Stevens & Skyward by Brandon Sanderson.
As someone who didn't read the triology first and went ahead and read SOC, it's completely worth reading them, it will make you appreciate the everything about SOC so much more.
Hey Zoe love your videos. My favourite book of January was Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and for February it was Hollow City. I am currently reading Bird Box by Josh Malerman and I am flying through it,
I love Celeste Ng! I wish she would write more books! On another note, I read the Six of Crows books and loved them THEN I read the Shadow and Bone series and it’s pretty much a 3 star series. But if you want to read King of Scars you pretty much have to read it. So maybe push through the next two book in between books? Great video!
Your gripes with Beneath the Sugar Sky were the most Ravenclaw thing ever, and I relate. I NEED SENSE AND ORDER. Also- I loved that you described it as rushed because the candy game in Wreck- it Ralph is called Sugar Rush! 😆.
It looks like you read a lot of really interesting books the last few months Zoe! I'm planning on reading the Wayward Children series at some point, but I'm also a little hesitant. Hyped books are either a hit or a miss for me and lately it's been more of the latter. I read Grisha at the end of last year and honestly I wasn't a fan, at all. I had so many issues with it, but it's more because of the Russian rep than anything else. However, if you want to read Six of Crows at some point, the Grisha trilogy is where you're going to get your world-building and overall background because you don't really have any world-building in Six of Crows. Best of luck either way. I still have to read Crooked Kingdom and hopefully I manage to get to it soon, but so far Leigh Bardugo and I don't mix well. As for some of my favorite recent reads...I LOVED the Winternight trilogy by Katherine Arden (I read both Girl in the Tower and Winter of the Witch in January) and would recommend them if you want some great historical fantasy that takes place in medieval Russia. They're SO good. I also loved Circe by Madeline Miller, which is a sort of retelling of the witch Circe from the Odyssey. I would highly recommend Madeline Miller as an author if you haven't read anything by her before. I hope your March reading adventures are going well so far!
Great reviews - love the way you describe them - you seem so happy or have a great attitude. Post videos when you can as I know after college you will be planning your career.
Glad you're enjoying Celeste Ng! I loved both of her books. Some of my recent favs include A Very Large Expanse of Sea and Sleeping Giants ( specifically the audiobook)
OMG I love this video. I was declared dead at the French beret and mustache thing 🤣🤣🤣 I love you so much. Also, I completely agree on Every heart a doorway. I read it because of the hype but it did not meet my expectations at all. I also wanted to read the other books because they're short but after hearing they're no better I think I won't 😅
Everything I Never Told You and Little Fires Everywhere sound so interesting, I'll definitely have to check them out. I also didn't understand why the darkling was so popular when I read the Grisha trilogy. I just started The Tiger at Midnight, and I'm excited to see where it goes. (I'm also rereading Truly Devious, because I love murder mysteries too lol 😆.) Awesome wrap up! 😁
I just finished Stain and it is the best book I've ever read! So, inspired by that book, I went to the bookstore today and got another book by the author of Stain and I think I'm starting that right after I finish Beasts Made of Night!
In an absent dream is similar to down among the sticks and bones in that you basically just learn about one world so you might like it more but i totally agree with you and wish they're were longer and more fleshed out.
I am the same way with fantasy books. That’s probably why I don’t pick them off often. I did enjoy the Grisha Trilogy, but I had to put Shadow and Bone down once and pick it up at a later time. That’s probably why I tend to lean towards contemporary more.
Illuminae, Blood for Blood or UnDivided (such an underrated series!!) were my favourite reads in jan and feb! Also just finished A Map of Days that I really enjoyed!
I just read the little Café in Copenhagen by Julie Caplin and loooved it!!! Another series I adore and you should definitely check out is Gregor the overlander by Suzanne Collins 💛10/10 really!
We picked up Little Fires Everywhere a while ago and never got around to it. You've reignited my interest, though.

i love the background you have for your videos now 😍 and I've heard people say In an Absent Dream is their favourite of the bunch if that helps aha. the darkling had so much potential to be a cool complex villain but hmm, no, he was just a weird old dude.
I think the Shadow and Bone trilogy is worth reading to the end. Personally, I love how the characters develop more over the course of the next two books. Also, there are a lot of easter eggs in the Six of Crows duology from this series. The reading experience is a lot more fun when you can understand those easter eggs :)
Another stellar book review. Would love to hear you do a review on a World War I or Origins of WWI book, Zoe. Or something historical. Love your channel. Btw, you do the best Readathons on YT. Nobody has your stamina for reading and staying awake. Looking forward to your new one on the 30th.
Can you do a video about books that have helped you through tough times? Books always help me get through bouts of depression, and I'd love to hear your thoughts on recommendations. ❤️
Earlier Nora Roberts books are amazing romances👏🏼 my fav series by hers is about Irish mythology, wizards, witches and vampires (who are trying to take over the world)😂 the characters all develop and bond and ugh. Just so good👌🏼
Nancy Murray I probably have but I’ve lost track of what series is about what😂 what’s the plot?? I tried to read a couple of her newer books and I just couldn’t get into them, maybe I just picked poorly tho
i would recommend hating you / dating you by christina lauren ! it’s a work place romance but also includes both main characters focusing on their careers and even has mention of mistreatment of women in the workplace because of their gender. a little steamy but i think that would be up your alley (:
I read 23 books this year, and yes I'm still in school. I finished Holding Up The Universe a couple of hours ago and now I'm reading Gone with The Wind
Saaameee when I read fantasy it takes me a whole lot of time to finish because I want to take in every detail essential to the story, but with ya contemporaries I breeze right through them lol.
A Curse so Dark and Lonely was my favourite read for February and this year so far, highly recommend and can't wait for the second book next year! It's a Beauty and the Beast modern retelling but it's so unexpectedly unique and I couldn't put it down. At all. I want to reread it already but so many books, so little time. ACSDAL ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I've heard that the Wayward Children series is great and now I'm really curious to see if I'll also like the idea of the books more than the execution.I need to start the series ASAP! 😁
I'm always happy to see a video of yours 💕 so glad you're back, lovely! yay Everything I Never Told You and Little Fires Everywhere are on my tbr! ahaha you talking about those scenes in Saga is precious :p
I’m in the same boat. I’ve been wanting to read Six of Crows but have to read Shadow and Bone first for my sake lol I just finished Siege and Storm last night and starting Ruin and Rising today.
I read Everything I Never Told You in a college class last year actually. Form and Technique in Prose. And I gave it 4 stars too!! I was surprised how much I liked it for being a "college" book. Another one we read in there that I loved is called 'The Mothers' and I recommend it.
Some characters from the Shadow and Bone were mentioned in passing or appeared on the SoC duology. So it's not vital to have read the S&B Trilogy. However, KoS is a different case. It's kind of the "what happened after Ruin&Rising". So if you're not up to finishing the trilogy, I suggest reading summaries to get just the gist. 😊 I struggled with 'em, too.
I remember that glorious feeling when I could read what I want again after finishing college - good for you that you read so many books! I'm glad you enjoyed Everything I Never Told You, I definitely want to read it soon because I really liked Little Fires Everywhere :- ) Also, amazing edits, I laughed out loud multiple times :- D I loved Josh and Hazel! You should check out The Kiss Quotient :- )
Blimey you've been busy! I've read Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng and really enjoyed it, would love to read Everything I Never Told You! Thanks for the great summary! :)
My favorite book I’ve read so far this year is probably Half blood prince, but I really liked a Gentleman’s guide to Vice and Virtue :-) im going to start Deathly Hallows soon and finally finish the series
In January I my fave was Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson, and in February my fave was King of Scars lol (side note: the books absolutely get better AND in Siege and Storm we meet Nikolai, love of my life), and I'm currently reading Nevermoor (finally)!
I'm late to the YA party so I'm reading Shatter Me. I LOVE it. I had mostly been reading adult suspense and thrillers for the past several years and just flat out needed a break. After a while, adult thrillers can go one of two ways: either they get TOO weird and heady and a lot of work to read, OR they lack any originality at all and are predictable. I'm glad that I've stepped back and explored other genres. I'm really liking YA fantasy right now! I checked out King of Scars from my local library but took it back because I'm not hearing very good things. Have you read that one yet??
I'm currently reading Breaking Dawn by Stephanie Meyer because I've had the twilight series for ages and wanted to finally get round to reading it. I'm also reading Journey to the River Sea by Eva Ibbotson. I was given this book over 10 years ago and I never read it. Before giving it away I wanted to actually read it, even if it is meant for younger readers.
hi luv watch u on here ! u had courage me read more late been read slump so now start back read again ty for share video i look forward seen u on here . had good day !!
oh no shadow and bone is on my tbr next month because i wanted to read it, same as you, before six of crows because i was told to read the trilogy first
I love Zoe's hair so much😍
And of course her videos too😁
That's one of the most adorable things about Zoe - Her Hair. Love it
And of course her videos too
@@shellydrawsI know right. She's cool
that darkling reaction is a big mood
So happy to see that you're back making videos! Always brightens my day!
It's always a good day when Zoe uploads❤️
Emily Ayers aw shucks 🥰

same! How far are you? (I'm on page 130-something!)
Same here! but I'm listening to the audiobook. I'm on chapter 29!
I'm just on page 42 so far. It's been a bit slow going
I'll have to read it someday too. Got a version for English learners on my shelf.
@@heatherneff8454 , that's okay. I also am pretty slow with reading it!
1:24 It's official, my name is cursed. Whenever my name is in a book the character is either incompetent/annoying, not important, or dead. 🤦🏾♀️
I'll write a living prosperous and happy lydia in a book for you haha, i actually thought about using this name before:)
Mine name does never occur 😂
Lydia Walker I’m joining the team!!! Happy when my name popped up because of course she’s dead 😂
You described Little fires everywhere so well! I absolutely adore the way Celeste Ng analyzes her characters because the way she writes them makes them feel so real.
I'm living for the fact that you still have Christmas decorations up.
Could you make a video of your fav murder mysteries? Absolutely love them
I loved the grisha trilogy and I feel like it just gets better as you keep going! You should totally read them!
I’m living for all the memes in your videos lately 👌🏻
I definitely think you should continue with the Grisha trilogy! I personally think it gets better with each book. The first is my least favorite and the last is my favorite. Raquel Rose Thank you so much! I tried to improve my wrap ups this year, so this means a lot!
I'll be reading the Grisha series soon, but since I'm just coming out of a 5 year reading slump, I might not be spoiled for all the tropes xD
Everything I never told you is on my tbr for April! Little Fires Everywhere is one of my favorite books ever!! Hello from a small book tuber ❤️
I listened to the Audiobooks for Wayward Children and honestly they made the books SO MUCH better!
I love how you went into so much detail about these books! Usually wrap ups are just a list of books and some short opinions but these were full on reviews. I'm loving the critical (but not negative) approach you have to your reviews. Really a fresh perspective for Booktube
I just want to say that I really appreciate the details you include in the description box. They are SO helpful!
I don’t often comment on videos but I just wanted to point out that I loved your editing in this video.
Jelke Lenaerts thank you!!
little fires everywhere is EVERYTHING ✨ i'm so glad you liked it
I also recently graduated from English Lit and the new reading freedom was the best!

I've heard SOOO much about the darkling and I havent even read a book by Leigh Bardugo before!😂
I just got into reading because of harry potter and I just ordered leigh bardugos the six of crows duology
