      Yes, it was yet another brilliant move by him. He didn't want to take Maul back in TCW because he had already fulfilled his purpose of taking out Qui Gon, thereby setting up Dooku's and Anakin's fall to darkness.

      Makes me think about the psychology of most characters in Star Wars, if you look at it close enough, everything can be seen as a puzzle, before you know it, your own life becomes a puzzle, turns you into a psychology knight.

      In the early 2000's, there was a video game series called Army Men. It involved plastic soldiers and had the tagline "Real Combat. Plastic Men." The first few games were pretty quality games, but after a bad game release the company started hurting. They then churned out something like 15 army men games in a very short couple of years in hopes that they could prevent going bankrupt by creating more games. It didn't work, the quality of the games was poor and the company went bankrupt. I would hate to see something similar happen with Disney and Star Wars, but a lot of the warning signs are already there. Quantity != quality.

      Definitely, we didn't get to see Dooku with his master Yoda at all. We also completely missed his journey from being a knight to becoming a master, his arguments with the council, and his near 10 year run as a Sith Lord before AOTC. Dooku recruited Jango Fett, Ventress, and Grievous.
      In a full Dooku series we could find out how he first discovered Sidious. Perhaps he went on his own undercover mission fighting mercs, bounty hunters, assassin's and doing his own blackmail. Maybe Sidious had Dooku take out some Jedi, rouge mercs, a corrupt senator and his escort, and a couple of Sith pretenders as a Sith Lord. I'd love to see a canon Battle of Galidrann where he first meets Jango Fett, how he first met Qui Gon, more of Dooku's relationship with his best friend Sifo Dyas, Dooku sparring Mace and Cin Drallig, etc.
      Ahsoka is getting her own show outside of this, so can Dooku. Hopefully we'll get at least 12 episodes each season and at least four seasons (Padawan/origin story, Knight early missions then with Qui Gon, Master getting close to Palpatine/seeing Plageius/going Rogue, Sith Lord recruiting Grievous/Jango/Ventress plus his dark missions and putting the strings together)

      Windu (and the Council) would follow protocol. They would serve the (Corrupt) Senate.
      This also convinced Dooku that he and others like him, those who opposed the corruption, who wanted the Jedi Order to do more to protect the people of the Republic would never be appointed to the Council. They would never be able to make the changes necessary to protect the people.

    'Dooku walked along the beach of an alien sea in the cool night air. He noticed a small seashell upon the sand. Remembering the shells he would place to his ear and listen to as a child and the joy he would feel upon hearing the sea in the shell he paused to consider it. Not entirely sure why, he picked it up and cupped it to one ear...expecting to hear...he knew not what, some profound truth or something vitally important he might have once known or felt...
    But there was nothing.
    Either the shell was different, the sea...or he was. Perhaps something in him had broken beyond all repair...
    Frowning, he crushed the shell into powder, let the dust blow away in the wind and walked back to camp.'- from Yoda Dark Rendezvous

      That book is so beautiful when it goes into Dooku's psyche, especially when he and Yoda face off at the end.
      Yoda has a retort for every single argument and justification that Dooku can dish out and he gets Dooku to basically acknowledge that the ideals he espouses are by that point little more than lies he tells himself as much as others.
      The only thing that ends up preventing Dooku from deserting Sidious is sunk-cost fallacy, he feels like he has gone too far to ever return. That and he feels like he has been replaced by Anakin, making him even more embittered. It's really sad how he's so close to coming back, even realizing how empty his life has become, but doubling down on his course is the only thing he has left.

    • @grandadmiralzaarin4962
      @grandadmiralzaarin4962 2 роки тому +20

      @@sherlocksmuuug6692 it is my favorite Dooku novel. You get a real sense on just how much the feel of being alone, not being able to trust and the obsession with being betrayed ran Dooku's life. It led to him developing standards nothing could live up to and any misunderstanding gets interpreted negatively. That last flicker of light inside him dies when he thinks Yoda, the last person he truly trusted, has 'betrayed' him by bringing Anakin and Obi Wan instead of coming alone. In that moment, we see 'Dooku' die and only Tyranus remain, he's less than he ever was because he embraces that deep fear of 'in the end we are alone' and 'everyone will betray you' so why not betray everyone else too? Why have principles, honor and comrades? To Tyranus it becomes a dark farce and he himself the chief player in a self made tragedy.
      Sir Christopher Lee also imparted a certain sorrow to the character, same as he does with all his villains, "There is a Darkside in all of us and in bad people, it dominates. There is something...sad about malevolence, to be wicked and I have tried to make that come across in the villains I have played." it's something that truly gets conveyed in Yoda Dark Rendezvous because in spite of all Dooku's wealth, reputation, influence and personal power as Tyranus...he's utterly alone, a servant to Sidious, having become the very thing he himself was obsessed with avoiding-a betrayer in service to treachery itself. In the very last moments of his life, it fully dawns on him just how far he has fallen and the ultimate irony that it was all for nothing in the end for him as his entire life amounted to one thing...to be the victim of Anakin Skywalker's first cold blooded murder.

      Exactly. Usually it's kinda tacky when villains try to go the "deep down we're the same you and I" route.
      But it's different when Dooku furiously demands that Yoda "Hate, Rage, Feel!", that he should admit something to the effect of: "You are alone. And you are great. And when the world strikes you, it is better to strike back then to turn the other cheek!"
      There is this clear desperation from him that makes it utterly heartbreaking. Dooku wants to believe so hard that deep down everyone is like him, that he's not the villain, that he just acted faster than the others. And Yoda slams that down immediately.
      I also love how the book humanizes Yoda, not a lot of Star Wars media goes deep into him as a person. Because of that many Star Wars fans like to blame Yoda because the Jedi and Republic fell when he was in charge, sometimes even accusing him of not caring or being arrogant and corrupt.
      But Yoda does care, that's what makes it all so tragic. He feels responsible for every single dead Jedi and Dooku's fall, he knows the Republic has gone downhill, he just doesn't know how to fix it without becoming a dictator, but still he tries everything he can as Grandmaster of the Jedi. He tries so hard. And he loves Dooku like a son, even as he destroys everything Yoda stands for and gloats about it. So when he finally switches from trying to talk Dooku down to fighting back, that really hits hard.
      "Love you enough to destroy you I do."
      It's this beautiful contrast between utterly selfish and utterly selfless.

    • @senseishu937
      @senseishu937 Рік тому

      What were dooku's motives then as he left the Jedi order and became a sith lord? All this time I thought it was about the Jedi being corrupt, and them being servants of the Senate, and that's why he fights against them. If that's not it, what are his motives?

    • @grandadmiralzaarin4962
      @grandadmiralzaarin4962 Рік тому +2

      @@senseishu937 as Dooku himself puts it in the Revenge of the Sith novelization, "The truth is more...complicated. Dooku is different."
      Dooku does legitimately despise the corruption of the Republic and he rightly looks down on the Corporate leaders as cowardly, morally bankrupt and utterly rotten to the core, but not for the reasons he professes in public. Dooku is contemptuous of the Jedi for not using the full extent of their power to rule. He's contemptuous of the Republic, not for being authoritarian, but for not being authoritarian ENOUGH. He's very much an aristocrat that believes in an enlightened few controlling everyone else. On some level he thinks this is for the galaxy's benefit, but as time goes on, Dooku, or rather Tyranus, cares less and less about those he's allegedly reforming the galaxy for to the point of outright despising them in private for not being able to live up to his own standards of "how things ought to be".
      Essentially his own pride in himself eventually becomes his defining personality along with his inability to relate to anyone. He's very sociopathic, he doesn't have empathy for the majority of the galaxy, he considers them abstractions, or as he himself puts it, "in a sense...not real" they serve as an audience to his grandeur and to further his plans, but not for any reason of their own.
      His obsession with being betrayed and being alone in the galaxy made him erect emotional walls as a youngling that he reinforced his entire life so that no one could ever emotionally harm him or manipulate him.(an irony not lost on Dooku in the final seconds of his life) His envy of always being second best to Yoda drove him to push every envelope to be the best because of his pride.
      In short, Dooku thought that he could use the Darkside as a tool to reform the galaxy, but through it and his own personality flaws of ego, envy and contempt he began to use that more as an excuse for his own pursuit of greater power and legacy. He became just as corrupted by power as those he despised to the point he was unrecognizable to what he started out as.

    This is the death of Count Dooku.
    A starburst of clarity blossoms within Anakin Skywalker’s mind when he discovers that the fear within his heart can be a weapon too.
    It is that simple, and that complex.
    And it is final.
    Dooku is dead already.
    The rest is mere detail.
    And he knows, then, that all this has indeed been going according to plan.
    This had been a Jedi trap, indeed, but the Jedi were not the quarry.
    They were the bait.
    And as he kneels before Anakin Skywalker, Count Dooku knows that he has been deceived, not just today, but for many... many years.
    That he has never been the true apprentice.
    That he has never been the heir to the power of the Sith.
    He has been only a tool.
    His whole life-all his victories, all his struggles, all his heritage, all his principles and his sacrifices, everything he’s done, everything he owns, everything he’s been, all his dreams and grand vision for the future Empire and the Army of Sith - have been only a pathetic sham.
    Because all of them, all of him, add up only to this.
    He has existed only for this.
    To be the victim of Anakin Skywalker’s first cold-blooded murder.
    The boy's first but, as Dooku looks up into the clear pristine clarity of his eyes, certainly not the last.
    Then the blades crossed at his throat uncross like scissors.
    Snip.
    And all of him... becomes nothing at all.

    I think this is probably one of, if not, *_THE_* best tributes to Count Dooku I've seen on the platform. You've really excelled in showing the dichotomy of his personality: on the one hand, he is Lord Tyranus, Dark Lord of the Sith, leader of the Separatist Alliance, and an arch manipulator, able to sway many to his cause through either subtle threats or putting the right pawns in place where and when he needs them. Of course, we all know there is one being who controls even him, but to everyone else, Dooku is either a threat to the Galaxy as a whole, or a hero taking a stand against *_"A corrupt Senate which fails the Republic it represents."_* On the other hand, you also displayed perfectly that that was not always, and in someways possibly was never, Dooku's orginal goal. In the end, under all the refined elegance he displayed, by the end of his life The Count was a broken man. Its possible that he never really got over the death of his apprentice (eg essentially son) Qui-Gon, and in some twisted sense of morality, thought that he would try to create something better than the Republic, that would truly represent the people of the Galaxy, as some sick tribute to his former Padawan. In the end though, it doesn't matter. Dooku was just what every other living being was to Sidious: *_a pawn._* To be used and disposed of when not required anymore. I don't know. Those are just my thoughts. I've rambled on long enough. Just thought I'd say I really enjoyed this as more love for Dooku is always appreciated. Thanks :)

    I like the stark contrast between Dooku in ToTJ and Dooku in TCW. It really shows how he was corrupted by the darkness. He ran to the darkness to fighter off corruption, and because of Sidious’s manipulation, he succumbed to the very corruption he sought to destroy.

    • @harishmohan4478
      @harishmohan4478 Рік тому +1

      We can even see some of the old Dooku during TCW. I watched the Box episode recently and Dooku looked genuinely sad when regarding a man who's peaceful species fell into chaos. I believe that Dooku's end goal was a peaceful government that was better than the Republic, but in his darkness he sacrificed much of his own morality and ideals for that goal. He extorted planets, helped the same officials he despised because it benefited him. He went from a man with unshakable values to a Machiavellian 'the ends justify the means' (Not sure if I'm using that right).

    Count Dooku. Lived as a Jedi Council Master
    Master of Qui-Gon Jin
    Superior to everybody at the Academy save for Yoda, whom he was equal to
    Became Darth Tyranus, lord of the Sith, without ever succumbing to the Dark Side fully as indicated by his immunity to Sora Bulq's use of Vaapad against him
    Destroyed Jedi Master Obi-Wan and Padawan Skywalker with incredible ease at age 80 before stalemating Yoda again
    Destroyed three invisible Nightsisters including Asaj Ventress while being taken unaware in his sleep and literally being poisoned with a killer serum that turned him blind at age 82
    Destroyed Savage Opress and Asaj Ventress simultaneously at age 82
    Died at age 83 against Anakin Skywalker from fatigue because of age and spanking Obi-Wan again
    Portrayed by the great Sir Christopher Lee, the man who inspired the character of James Bond, and also ironically played a Bond villain in The Man With The Golden Gun.
    What a legend.
