your return feels like going home to me... i'm so happy and i'm so glad you're back tina!!!
What do you think of this 'old-new' way of journaling? Curious to hear how you might include this in your writing practice
the new microphone sounds great, your voice is even more soothing:)
Your voice sounds amazing
The volume is very low but all good i just turned my volume up :)
I think it sounds super clear!! Just needs to be a tad louder maybe, but I also am not a ear bud listener so it could just be that! Haha
Hello, love your videos, and I’m on the hunt for this book too, I remember it as a kid. I had to turn my volume up all the way it seemed very low sorry.
thanks for sharing this. I watercolor sometimes too and it does inspire me just looking at that journal and hearing about it. Also reminds me to rewatch 'Anne with an E' (the lastest tv version of Anne of Green Gables, which is a great show. It's very cinematic and it does always remind me to appreciate things we sometimes take for granted (nature, having a home, cake, the chance to education and so on)
I love describing the environment I'm in when I journal, not only nature but anywhere I am: my room, my home, the view from the window, the sounds, the smells. I also love describing what I eat, what I read, and what it's going on in the world: current news, cultural and political phenomenons. I love reading back on it - oh, that was happening! or - that's what my room felt like! I love to detail and contextualize.
Sunning!
I was just gifted a garden calender. I don't really use physical calenders because there isn't really the need but I remembered this video and knew immediately what I would do with it! Thank you so much for sharing this and inspiring people to take a few moments every day to enjoy and look at nature.
Thank you for sharing. I just can’t imagine all the time it took to find the information on the plants…Edith didn’t have google. Her research must of taken so much of her time. That is dedication.
OMG I have 2 of this woman's books! I love her art! It's more of a study instead of her life. Yet it is her life.
I got the book from the library! This is magnificent! Did you know there is also a dvd series showcasing each month of the year? Thank you for sharing this.
So inspiring!
That's so gorgeous! When I was a teenager I kept what I called a "Nature Journal" and I would go out into the woods and write down my observations, and include photos I took of plants and animals, then would go back inside and try to identify the plants and animals based on what I could find online. I'd include quotes about nature or my thoughts on my relationship with nature. It's so interesting to look back on because now as an adult, I don't spend much time outside anymore and it's sad that I used to be so present with nature... I should get back outside sometime. Thank you for this video, it made me reflect =)
I love the clips of you letting the pages of your journal flutter in the wind :)
the idea of not journaling about myself, scares me so much that i think i should probably do it
I’m so happy you’re back. I’m a regular viewer of your channel. I miss you loads.
Nyla is so cute. I think i’m going to start more simple. buying cheaper notebooks and just writing every single thing that comes to mind that i want to capture. this is such a great way to start that
What an incredible journal! Thank you for sharing this book in this beautiful video.
one of the best and the most beautiful thing I came across today. Thank you so much for sharing this. Coincidentally I have been wanting to start a nature journal for a while and this video came at the perfect time :) Can't wait to read this book
That reminds me of a book I have called The Seasons by Louis Lawrence! Drawings and copies of poems and Bible verses and such ( because that kind of thing was the only acceptable "work" that could be done on Sundays in the late 1800s when the book was made) all relating to the seasons. It's really beautiful. Quite possibly an inspiration for the book you showed?
We homeschool and my littles have a nature/art journal that is similar (with minor exceptions as they as 3 and 6 lol)
OMG, I did just that yesterday, I described the trees, the flowers, the birds around me, the sky and the wind, everything from nature on my notebook and now I see this video.❤️
I have random pages from this book and always wondered where it came from because I love the pages I do have! Defiantly going out and getting the book so I can have moreb
Me too, in junk journals 😁 Might get the whole book aswell ☺️
I actually have a book of cross-stitch designs, called The Country Diary Collection, based on the paintings in that book. I have been thinking of starting a nature journal for a while now, so it was neat that you shared this!
What a great idea!
Thank you for sharing this. I believe Rhomany's Realm showed it as well a while ago. What a beautiful book. It's almost like a nature commonplace book. Keeping a log like this would be so interesting, the closes I get is to note down the weather every day.
OMG this is gorgeous! I am so inspired! Thank you so much for sharing this gem!!!
Oh Tina how do you manage to answer my questions without even me asking!! 💖 This idea is fantastic and has really inspired me to journal a bit differently! I'm gonna try to do a mix between regular journaling and nature journaling.
To step out of your head and sort of express your inner world and feelings through the beauty in the world, your surroundings, through poems, lyrics, art, the weather, and just...things that are more abstract and greater than you. It can not only give you perspective, but a sense of comfort...to know that you're not alone, that the things you're going through are ultimately not as big and scary as they seem...(it's crazy how the lady found a poem that fit perfectly with her theme, and without Wikipedia !)
Lately I'd been really struggling to find a better journaling style because I realised that "pouring my heart out on paper" thing wasn't serving me anymore (it just turned into me just hyperfocusing on the heavy things and then ruminating all the time). I'm definitely gonna give this a try
Loved this! Would love to read the book.
Definitely going to take a deeper look into this Edwardian nature journal! Thank you for sharing this gem! It's so poetic to think of this lady writing about the flowers and the trees and the birds surrounding her a century ago. Journaling is such an intimate act done in secrecy et in private (well, for me) that I often feel alone when I journal, but to think that so many people (especially women) who came before us also journal makes me feel less alone. ❤️
How beautiful! I include observations about the weather (what the trees outside my window are doing, what birds are around) most mornings as a way to be in connection with the day around me and the world outside of myself. One unintended thing I notice as I do it is how the weather affects my thoughts - sometimes I love how the whipping winds feel like they're scouring the day clean, sometimes I just crave stillness.
I love her illustrations - I think I'm going to make that my project over my holidays this year, to do more sketching in my journal! I kinda love the idea of my journal being a delicious basket of all the things I'm thinking, reading, seeing, drawing. Thankyou for sharing! I'm going to see if my library can find a copy for me :)
My mom has a copy of this book, and I remember flipping through it a few years ago. I'm gonna see if she'll let me borrow it.
I love this so amazing
I remember reading this in high school!! It's so incredible how small our world is..!
How beautifully meditative! I also found this video to be very timely as I was looking for ways to slow down in my everyday life… what better way than to stop and smell the roses?
Love this! I had that book when I was little and it really inspired me! I’m actually drawing a turtle as I watch this - I live in the woods and my husky thinks they are tennis balls for him to fetch (the turtle is unharmed and will be put back in the woods under leaf litter when the dogs are in for the night
I have that same book A woman named Connie received it for her birthday in 1980 from her parents (they signed the front) and I love it! If you've ever read the book the "Awe-manac" it feels sort of reminiscent but not exactly. I love the book and the way she journals Am so glad you're back.
Thank you for another beautiful video. I am going to head to the library to see if I can track down a copy of the book you shared.
Also, if you haven’t stumbled upon this one already, Stillmeadow Calendar by Gladys Tabor is another “season” type of book. It’s one of my favorites and might be something you’d enjoy.
So glad you are back! You are an inspiration.
Beautiful! I'll definitely check it out
Edith Holden was collecting flowers from a riverbank at Kew Gardens when she drowned in the Thames in 1920. She was 48 years old. :(
Oh! I have this book 🥰
What a timely video! I just picked up a copy of this very book in one of the Mennonite Charity shops in my area and I hadn't begun to the mb through it yet.
It totally does look like the start of a month in a bujo!! :D
I was just looking for this book online out of curiosity if I could find it. And I saw it on amazon but noticed it has a different cover and scrolled down and saw the art cover of the book you have and that copy is worth almost $89.00!! Looks like you might have a first edition or at least something close. Not going to lie that is a hard book to get ahold of right now I don't know why.
Woah - I had NO idea! My friend got it for me at a thrift shop for only a few dollars lol. Maybe your library has it?
Haven't even watched this yet but I know it's going to be good queen 🤩
yes, this book was made into a 12 part video mini series in the 80's. I have seen it...it's really good, of course the video quality is not HD obviously but I felt that added to the charm.
I’m so excited about this book! Mainly because it is completely separate from her. In my journal I record the weather and I also use the journal prompt, “In this moment I am……” I normally describe what is going on around me as I journal. I wonder what it would be like to record something and to not include your feelings or anything about yourself. So fun!
I’ve just come back to this video because my own copy of the book arrived today and I am THRILLED!!!
Lovely ❤️❤️❤️
Aw I love this 🥰
Wow love it 😍
I loveee your voice
Edith wrote a similar volume in 1905 titled ‘Nature Notes’ - published in 1989 as ‘The Nature Notes of an Edwardian Lady’….btw Thames (as in the river) is pronounced ‘Tems’ !
Amazon has a coloring book with the drawings from here😊
Really?! I have to check that out!
Sweet!
Thank you for sharing this! Also, where is your pointer finger ring from? Looks so lovely!
Also, I’m planning to start travel journal during my upcoming trip and will surely try focusing more on what’s around me than within me. Such a simple, fantastic idea!
Bababooey!!!
missed you ❤️❤️❤️
I MISS YOU SO MUCH!!!
Great video and I love Edith Holdens book. Your volume was way too low, I had to strain to hear and missed much!
Yes, for me, the volume was too low. I had to increase my volume to 100% and still could not hear you very well. :(
The volume is a bit low! But the video is great 😊
Your videos always have an utterly timely, moving, and poignant resonance with regard to where I am in life as they premiere. I have been deeply contemplative about what plenum and emotional fortitude I could acquire with the luxury of spending time in nature. Due to my circumstances, nature has been an elusive presence in my life. I have sought the sights in an intangible, non-experiential way...the internet! Yet, I yearn to hear the call of a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak bird and take in the way it looks as I often feel--shot through the heart ❤ by life! I ache to be among an array of breathtaking flowers 💐 🌷. I hope to lose myself in rumination during a peace-inducing morning walk. I was quite unfamiliar with Edith Holden prior to this video. Thank you for introducing us to her Diary. I hope to soon lose myself in her world 📖 of observation and poetry, two things I am profoundly enamored with.
Perfect timing
❤❤❤
Journaling about nature would be great if you are trying to be more mindful and live in the moment. ♥️
I could not hear a word....tried ear buds and external mic....:( :(
I want to watch and hear but your volume is much much too low😞😞😞
Oh no! Thank you for letting me know - just got this mic and this is my first time using it!
Your videos are lovely but you need to speak up for those of us with old ears❤️❤️
