    I love your definition of a lightworker---I always felt that to be a lightworker, you had to have a burning desire to help those who are suffering and someone who is more than willing to face the darkness to heal and find truth. Love this!!!

    i'm a chicano and we have a similar concept to the light worker we have the curandero (curing person) and people who are given a don or dones (gifts, from the word donar = to donate, to give). This concept of sanción (healing, from the word sanar = to heal) and curas (cures) is passed down from our native american, precolombian roots. In precolombian Meso America and in our cousins to the north and south's traditions our source of vitality was tied to our land, we were children of the personifications of nature and natural events, we were only made possible because of things like the wind, death, the moon, the dirt, the body and etc. So animism was popular and developed differently but similarly throughout the continent and region. Back to modern times we have this concept of a shamanistic healer who's tied to our essence and can preform limpiezas (cleanings, cleansings, from the word limpiar =to clean) and we have european catholicism, like the people who were raped and assimilated so was their religion and we had to work around catholic boundaries and use catholic codes. Examples: shamans become curanderos who were gifted a don from God the Father, catholic prayers in spanish in place of long forgotten tongues, even some blending of european witchcraft and superstition along with native tradition, I won't deny my southern European roots they are definitely present in a significant way. We have a bit of African religion mixed in as well, and that went down the same path of assimilation and rape you can see it in our latino cousins to the east, the Cubans have Santeria. My maternal lineage is were this comes into play for me, this isn't ever gender based though i am male and my mother tells me this lineage of dones was originated by a male progenitor, she describes him vaguely as a pure blooded indigenous man who visits our dreams and guides us, i guess in that sense the precolombian concept of ancestor work comes into play as well as the old world concept of guardian angels. But long story short that's sorta along the lines of a light worker just from growing up in california and experiencing a variety of cultures i tend to see trends .
    Referring towards the end of your video, there's a moral code to not charge money for limpiezas and to have compassion while being a curandero, and a person who uses their power for economic growth might be a sign of a charlatan or a evil person. This sounds less extreme than cutting off your limbs but you can see how it's along the same branch
    At the moment i've come to a point where my grandmother might die soon, so i'm learning as much as i can to pass down to our descendants. As well as coming to a point where I don't polarize my views and accept that i cannot just pick out folk catholicism it's become part of the rituals and I should explore the esoteric part of European traditions.

    In my opinion, "Lightworker" is a term best bestowed by others rather than claimed. I agree that the true Lightworkers are the social workers, public school teachers, social justice lawyers and others who put in long long hours for little pay in order to help the marginalized and disenfranchised. I am honored to know some of those people who do such difficult, selfless work. I love Kuan Yin and I aspire to be a little bit more selfless and compassionate every day.

    My Ideal of a lightworker was one who used energies to heal, but when I googled it this is what Doreen Virtue said, "You know you’re a lightworker if you feel compelled to help others, and deeply care about the world. You attract people who need help, and you’re sensitive to the needs of those around you. In fact, you sometimes feel that you’re a bit too sensitive, as you absorb energies from others’ moods." whether it is true or not is not up to me.....

    This is so interesting. I am currently working with Quan Yin -- very beginning of the relationship -- and it's fascinating to hear stories about her and her compassion. I've subscribed for the informative video. The definition of a Light-worker by the Quan Yin's standards is absolutely beautiful. I aspire to be like that one day. I don't know if I ever will, but I hope evolve enough to witness that.

    I admit I have never heard this term until a year or two ago and because I come from a Christian then Buddhist perspective, when I heard it I thought Mother Teresa and a Bodhisattva--which is a high ideal for the average person to aspire to. I'm with you, in that when I learned about and read about the concept of the Bodhisattva, my ego definitely felt that somewhere in me was a spark of that desire, but it isn't a flame, at least in this life time and while I do champion compassion, empathy, and light within shadow, by that definition I could not claim being a Lightworker, nor do I think there are many that can AND I think it's one of those things if you are ascribing it to yourself you probably aren't quite there lol. HOWEVER, I have also thought that people using the term in the pagan world seem to be either that love light and positivity type or as a description that they pull their power from the light. There is, as many things, probably a middle road between Sainthood and Bodhisattva's and a modern ego driven type of fluffy Lightworker where there is a space for someone who devotes themselves to lighting the dark with compassion and empathy that may embody a type of Lightworker, I have met a few I would see in that way.

    You’re absolutely correct, your definition of a light worker is so true. He or She that is categorized as a so called light worker stays behind the scenes and they don’t like to be broadcasting out loud of their work for normal love of humanity!!! It’s just something sincerely comes from the heart as unconditional love of the people that feel a sense of unloved and forgotten!!! May we all help and unconditionally love one another, especially those that lost hope in themselves, even if it’s sacrificing his or her own life!!!

    once people feel and experience unconditional love, they will have finally tasted their tru power and begin to exercise tht, instead of fear..not too many souls accept the contract of being treated inhumanely just to show how to choose to overcome it, with compassion and gratitude. different plants need different types of care, some need more or less attention, but the innerstanding of their nature allows for nurture and growth....also, i keep asking myself: am i watching Kuan Yin right now? you...

    I came across the title "Lightworker" s in the early 1980's, when as a new student of the occult I started moving in circles of people that could teach me. The title seemed to me to be "coined" around that time by what I'd call "new age" rather than traditional practitioners. A title that was a little vague, warm and fuzzy and seemed be used by those who didn't have a connection to a tradition but wished to convey what they were about and including whatever they were into, they were of the "light" and doing something good without going into details, which put me off as a sort of lofty arrogance without substance. Just what I experienced...

      What's intriguing to me is I don't know if I know any lightworkers either, in the self-identified spiritual communities. However, I know quite a few lightworkers who probably don't even know the term exists. These are our social workers, our inner city public school teachers, as I said in the video, those who sacrifice personal glory to be there to uplift marginalized and neglected communities, who never get any recognition for what they do, but they do it anyway.

    Light and dark workers both want to help , heal people . In my experience a light worker works with angels or light spirits like Kwan Yin . They want to destroy there dark/ shadow side. Helping people like homeless is a great thing not a light worker thing only . The dark worker can does help people . They seem to work on the self more . Truly becoming your best version by destroying there weaknesses from dogma, emotional trauma, programming that society deems a proper behavior e.t.c. the dark worker may not care if there seen as good . Some light workers may choose not to learn poison magic because they feel it's evil . Some also think the light will protect them from everything . The dark worker becomes friends with there shadow side and learns those mysteries . Some work both . People choose what resonates with them

    Thank you for this commentary. I feel your passion and it reminds me of mine. As a licensee health care worker in Chinese Medicine who tries to keep prices affordable so that people REALLY in need can access it I struggle with this alot. Life is expensive and being able to help with the level of care that victimized people need to really turn their lives around takes time and resources. Western medicine saves lives but people don't generally thrive only using it when they are the deeply marginalized and victimized. I try to maintain balance for my own health as it can totally drain me financially and energetically to work like this. Working with the more educated and privileged is easier and more profitable. My life is easier when my practice has more patients in this realm. Do you have ideas on how to use the mystical sciences/arts to benefit those in deeper need while being financially/ energetically cared for yourself? I'm feeeeeel there is a way. Would love your commentary. In Gratitude, Christina

    I’m not sure about the terms starseeds and lightworkers- it seems like a new age religion but not religion thingy.
    But I found it interesting in your other video about your experience with meeting a Buddhist monk and how he mentions that there are some beings who reincarnated from other dimensions..
    There are quite a few people with pre-birth memories, who know what their soul purpose is, and/or those who were forced to be here as souls hovering the planet, and souls who reincarnated (or were forced to) due to suicide having to repeat the process.
    I think the terms stsrseeds and lightworkers are sort of indoctrinating…it’s like the new religion for people abandoning old traditional religions. It sounds a little hoaky.
    But I also find it interesting how people who have previous life memories also mention about soul fragments-not in a new agey kind of way- and how people pick up spirit attachments (something I’ve also heard in Vietnamese culture and don’t know much about), but it’s interesting when combined with esoteric Daoism.
    Does Daoism explain pre-birth memories? It’s also mentioned in books where people were clinically induced w/LSD by Stanislov Gof in psychological experiments.
    I’m still learning- Don’t know much about Daoism/Buddhism/Hinduism, but there seems to be a lot of intersectionslity- Hinduism having their own Feng Shui known as Vastu Shastra. *It’s amazing what the Chinese people knew back then-the Persian culture shares similar views (Feng Shui)-Zootstrian, and makes sense since they were connected through the Silk Road.
    I find your videos very helpful. It makes so much sense-how the universe works, ancestral worship, and s soul’s connection to land/geographical elements all having spirit/energy etc.. connecting back to Daoism/Feng Shui.. really awesome, excellent work !!

    Super interesting topic! But I’m left wondering where the line is between what you’re describing as a light worker and a martyr. I’m going to make this about me now, so forgive the self importance, but I suppose it is how we make sense of things! I’m a peer worker in mental health - so, I use my lived experience of mental illness and recovery to connect with, encourage and empower people who are currently ill. As much as my experience allows me to have a level of compassion and understanding that others might lack, I absolutely cannot suffer along side them. I may want to, but that is not helpful for me or for them. I totally resonate with getting down and dirty with the real problems, and I call bullshit on meritocracy - people have rights because they are people, not because they are ‘good’ people - but how can we be helpful if we’re completely ‘in’ it with them? Or perhaps my imagination is limited by my own weaknesses - that kind of commitment would consume me very quickly, I am sure! I don’t know where I’m going with this... Perhaps I’d just be interested in hearing how you distinguish the two - light worker and martyr (if indeed you do).
    Forgive me if I’ve entirely missed your point - it’s getting late here! Very interesting video, as always. 😊

    • @ThePeculiarDaughter
      @ThePeculiarDaughter 6 років тому

      Katey Flowers I agree with you. I looked more into Mother Teresa’s life. It is said that she was EXTREMELY depressed and actually angry at God for allowing such suffering. I’m a believer that we are here to experience and play out what we had planned for ourselves. If that includes suffering because we needed it for growth in some way, well, who are we to interfere? There’s a lot more going on behind the scenes that we know!

    • @BenebellWen
      @BenebellWen 6 років тому +6

      To me, the difference between a martyr and a lightworker is a big one. The martyr is concerned about an ideology. The lightworker is concerned about the person, and the spirit of that person. Also, suffering alongside the suffering need not be taken too literally. =)

    • @KateyFlowers
      @KateyFlowers 6 років тому

      Benebell Wen ah that makes total sense! Thank you 😊

    • @KateyFlowers
      @KateyFlowers 6 років тому +2

      The Peculiar Daughter oh that was not what I was saying. Apologies for the confusion. Mother Teresa is a really problematic figure, so I won’t comment on that specifically. But I do think it is absolutely our responsibility to step in and help when people are suffering. I simply meant that if someone is drowning, it’s not always best to just jump in with them - you get a rope, or a floatation device so you yourself can avoid drowning before you even get to them to help. From my personal experience with suffering, I didn’t really learn any big life lessons until I was on the other side of it - I was just in survival mode. I don’t think the suffering inherently teaches us much, I think it’s the meaning we give to it, and it is hard to do when you are ‘drowning’.

    I like your interpretation of lightworker. Though I have never heard that interpretation before it's still reinforces for myself and other pagans that lightworker in this Modern Age has a phony tone to it. Within your interpretation I know that many of us pagans believe that people like Mother Teresa maybe be even shelter providers such as Daddy Bruce would be considered lightworkers. Funny that they never called themselves that.
    My interpretation of lightworker had more to do with where we draw our power. From what I understand, lightworkers draw their power from above . White light, crown chakra, Heaven with all love and releasing energy. No connection to the dark and the roots of our being or it is seen as a negative within us.
    If I was to analyze it and what I just wrote I would say lightworker in its modern sense is incomplete and it's focus and Duty

    I have to say that modern day, middle class life is it’s own kind of darkness. It’s a screwy kind of darkness where everyone always tells you how blessed you are while you feel this terrible inner churning and fear that this life is all you have and you’re not even doing it right. If someone who is familiar with that experience can make a UA-cam video that will lend them a hand to the next step up on the consciousness ladder, then that is a step toward light. And doing that with intent makes them lightworkers.

    I never thought of myself as a light worker, meaning someone on a higher vibration using crystal and energy healing for others. Instead I left a corporate job to become a Special Education teacher to help the marginalized know they have worth. I expect to cry with them and laugh with them as our lives intertwine in a way. I've always had a mission of showing mercy to the abused, homeless, etc and find giving being the most precious gift I have outside of my family. I still don't know if I'm a light worker because unlike Kuan Yin, I believe some abusers, etc. deserve to be in hell.

    This is kinda of like the Alchemical axiom of the Magnum Opus? The Negredo or blackening to go to the higher states of the whitening or purifying of the self to manifest that gold or the true self. When I hear the term "light worker" it just seems like a new agey pop topic to me.
    Although the Alchemical axiom mainly pertains subjectively in a personal manner or leans twards working out a specific process of magical accomplishment; I don't see how it couldn't be termed in the broader sence of the collective good.
    This also reminds me of the story of a man looking for his car keys under a bright street lamp, when he knew his keys were in his house which was dark, he instead chose to look where there was light instead of darkness, going for comfort instead of the unknown. I was always like the cheap bastard must have not payed his bills. But how useless would a literal parable be?

    Thank you for this video . If you ever have some spare time , check out a website from a man named Cameron Day . He was raised by Buddhist and loving parents . He became a "Lightworker" and after some years he discovered some things that I found very compelling .
    I had been in search of something like his site and what he had to say because for much of my life my gut was telling me that we'd been told some HUGE untruths... In each of the major religions, I believed. Was pleased I found his website because I'd found the whole New Age movement extremely suspect ... I grew up in a hippie commune, so, I'd had a very unconventional childhood and was fairly open-minded. So ... I googled something like New Age + bullshit + lies + reincarnation + soul recycling + soul trap+ false karma + etc. And I found an article on his website titled "Why I Am No Longer A Lightworker" . Thought you might be interested in what he has to say . I LOVE what you have to say here ! Would love to sit with you and talk about ... anything and everything. It's almost 1am and your words have me almost jumping up and down . Deeply refreshing . A warm thank you .

    Light=wisdom/knowledge. Worker=mirror. Many images on the screen. One says dharma, one says christ. One says goat, one says cow. Many will see hooves. Some may see light, but the mirror never takes credit.

    the story of the daughter (princess) who gives to her father so that he can live is like the bible story of Jesus (son of god) giving his life for those not worthy "sinners". a story told to keep humans who are natural predators under control. to massage the will of man and instill guilt or some imaginary reward for forfeiting your natural human instincts . satanic bible says that self preservation is the highest law and these stories are writing of dead men who have controlled mankind for centuries. but the good thing is what man has created, man can destroy!

    Lightworkers sound a whole lot the self-sacrifice and penance and freeing the dead from purgatory hell of Catholicism. 🤔

    I don't think it is a useful phrase, and in fact is actively misleading, as it again demonizes "the dark."
    The paradigm you set up sounds a lot like how Catholic sainthood was presented me to as a child, and it's ultimately a kind of heroic vision that sets people up to be disappointed with themselves: as no one is infinitely benevolent, all-saving and all-merciful and all-seeing, or able to fight each and every battle. In my experience striving for that kind of archetype makes people rather dissociated and puts one in a constant dance between ego, self-loathing, and checking out out of the physical world. (And giving one's arms and eyes to the spoiled patriarch is not something I would define as "goodness" myself, though that gets into rather larger territory.)
    I appreciate you calling out some of the self-interest that people clothe in new age language these days, but ultimately I think "light worker" should be retired instead of redefined.

      To me, "light worker" can sound very much like being a "moralist". I frankly don't want to be a moralist, assuming that 'I' know what other people who are suffering need without their consultation. It's like giving out unsolicited advice--it's patronising and demeans individual autonomy. I have an understanding that self-respect is the foundation for having respect for others. And blurring personal boundaries isn't a healthy way to go in providing care for others.
      On a different point: the idea that one 'should' sacrifice oneself on the altar of others is a harmful one. This attitude makes for easy burn-out for social workers, therapists, etc. As you pointed out, we're not perfect and so it makes little sense for us to try to do the impossible.

    • @emma13254
      @emma13254 6 років тому +1

      To the issue of burnout, I think people doing challenging care work are tired of being on a pedestal and want actual material support ... It's about changing the structures of society collectively, not sacrificing a few heroes or "good ones" on the altar of our collective guilt. To frame people as "light workers" or "non light workers" seems an efficient way for the "non" group to abdicate responsibility. But we all have the moral obligation to care for one another; it's not some peculiar calling, and the fact our society sets up barriers to this shouldn't be romanticized.
      And in spiritual circles, as soon as the idea of "extra holy" or "extra special" people gets introduced, it just becomes a class system that permits abuses of power, like any other class system. It's very easy, and in fact predictable, for our conditioning from the larger culture to get carried over to activist and spiritual groups ... so we have to consciously work on non-hierarchical thinking and structures to make any progress.

      ...which I think is difficult, but necessary. The very idea of social responsibility is buried under the desire to blame victims or not to recognise how interconnected our lives are.
