Thank you so much! I replaced died flash bulb thanks to your video! The most difficult step was connecting the cable from the back cover back into place, but everything worked out
@@DavidEstebanThe flash didn't last long. It looks like the flash bulb was fine. The board that charged the flash died. If I decide on an expensive replacement, I know what to do!
Is the white connector at 3:16 responsible for focus control, by any chance? When I first got the camera I was getting a lens error so I wanted to see if the lens had any debris stuck inside and when I tried opening it, I accidentaly ripped the connector from the board, then I put the plastic cover back on because I didnt have the right screwdriver to get further, and decided to manually close the lens, and it worked but the focusing isnt working, so I wonder if the reason is the cable or the lens itself. Btw thank you for the video.
Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you ripped the connector from the board. I'm not an expert so I don't know exactly what it does. My guess is that it has something to do with the optical viewfinder not the focus. I think the focus is controlled by a motor placed closer to the lens and it has more wires coming out of it. Was it focusing before?
@@DavidEsteban Hello, thank you for replying. I bought it used, a few days ago, and I didnt get the chance to see if the focus works because of the lens error. So its most likely to be the focus motor (13:17), that is causing the problem? Okay, thanks for helping. Ill order the replacement parts and try to repair it.
Thanks for the detailed video. It's really helpful. I opened up my G12 to clean debris on the sensor. Everything seemed to work well, until I connected everything back, and now the camera won't turn on. I think I've connected all of the cables back correctly. I can also see a tiny switch that gets pressed when the battery door is closed, so don't think that is a problem. I can't figure out what went wrong. Any idea why camera might be not turning on? Thanks again.
Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you found the video useful. It happened to me once and it was that the lcd screen was not connected properly. I don't know if that's your case or not, have very little experience with it
@@DavidEsteban hi thanks for the video. Quick question if you dont mind. I have a G11 that works perfectly with everything takes pictures flash everything ok. But when i open the lcd screen the whole camera shuts down, do you think something is wrong with the lcd screen cable or do you think the motherboard is broke? I'm trying to fix the camera because its so new and barely used, but i can not find anything related on this issue, while the screen is folded in the camera works 100% fine, the moment i open the camera lcd screen til the point where the screen supposed to light up, the whole entire camera shuts down, any ideas on this? thank you
@@kaip3260 Hi! I'm not a technician, so I wouldn't be able to tell you with certainty where the problem is. If everything else works fine I'd be more inclined to think it's an issue either with the screen or the screen cable. Have you tried turning it on with the screen open and in different positions? If it's the cable maybe there's an specific point/angle where it works. You wouldn't be able to use the camera like that, of course, but maybe it will give you a hint of where the problem is.
It's relatively easy, I reach to that part at 11:30. That being said, I wouldn't know much about the infrared filter. Do you have a link that shows how to remove it? either from this camera or any other. I'm curious
The whole thing has to come apart to replace the front lens? Mine has a nasty scratch and it really needs replacing. I tried other fixes but nothing worked.
Hi! Yes, as far as I can tell (I'm not a expert) this is how you have to disassemble it. There might be another way to get to the front lens, but I don't know it and I don't longer have the camera to try it out.
Got a G11 for free, unfortunately the front lens is scratched, I need to change it, if I can get hold of another copy. Aperture may have an issue too, pictures at f8 are way darker that at f2.8 or the metering is off. And there's crud on the image sensor.
@@dorfschmidt4833 Sounds like a lot of things are broken... Hopefully you can find another G11 with another set of problems and combine them. That's what I did with the one on the video.

One the best strip. Down videos I’ve seen. My flash has stopped charging, probably the capacitor,il probably just purchase a external flash gun.

Can i ask what are those motors that those lens uses? I really need to know what kind of motor because it's the problem i have on my camera
Hi! I'm not sure how those motors are called, but make sure it's not a problem in the gears, that tend to be more common

Is it easy to get to the Canon G11 image sensor to remove the infrared filter? This is to convert the camera to full-spectrum.

How to remove the coin cell battery in the front? I am unable to retain date/time every time I turn my camera on and off..
