Never heard of Zume but what an interesting example. Definitely would like to see more business model stories. We can all learn and grow from success and failure. Thanks for making this!
Cooked by robots in the back of a truck how appetizing
People would try and jam it via impossible geographic ordering patterns.
Screw competing where the pizza itself is concerned; I think the flash-heating of the pizza just before it arrived at its destination was a game-changing concept. Too bad they didn't offer or license that concept to their competition. If a pizza restaurant was capable of delivering a pizza to my door that literally just came out of the oven, I'd likely order from them than anyone else providing their pizza was edible to begin with.
Saw Zume on the pizza show, seemed like a great concept. you live and learn I guess...
I'd never heard of them before as I'm in the UK. I think it shows that the human touch is still important in the industry, which is good in my opinion. Although the sauce spreader looked pretty cool 😂
100%
From the guy that brought us Homeworld, Dawn of War and Company of Heroes now comes... Zume Pizza! lol
Local company where I live delivers fresh baked pizza in propane heated ovens to your door always hot
Low quality food and not financially viably scalable business model
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu threatened to dissolve Israel's Supreme Court after being charged with corruption for ordering take-out pizza although he had a personal chef. How much pizza was it? Looking at Zume, the initial estimate may have been missing some zeroes
I hope krazy ken from computer clan creates an episode about zume pizza!!!
being ineffective at burning through cash is a positive trait, not a negative. It means you are managing your finances prudently and avoiding unnecessary or frivolous expenditures.
Who orders Green Peppers on their pizza? Yeck!
Some very good points for sure. The lockdowns hurt so many just trying to make a living. #1 and # 4 most important. My ideal of high tech would be a pizza press and a rotating woodfired oven, that's it!
very true
Key takeaway. Deliver a superior product and focus on that I the right unsaturated market... Then scale.
real
You say they received $375 million in funding. Yet the article you show says $445 million. Which is closer to the total amount plus/minus.
honestly sounds like a money grab
I think those takeways are not correct:
1. Make sure your product is great: Well, when you are innovating you face uncertainties. You never know how the ending product will be. Independently of this, I think they should be focusing on improving quality, but I don't know what they faced and probably you either.
2. Delivery on the promise that you can achieve: Many times, if you don't overpromise you don't get the funds to do what is achievable. And also you don't know what you can achieve, maybe it was feasible to do what they said.
3. Solve a problem: Offering a cheaper pizza is not solving a problem? Maybe it needed more funding to do scale economy
4. Focus: Yes, it might be a failure, but we don't know what they struggled, maybe they couldn't get a new fundraise serie so they had to switch with the funds they still had.
So easy talking from outside.
There is no shortage of pizza shops. That's the problem. It's a saturated market.
No need to automate, when you have a never ending flow of low wage immigrants coming across the Mexico border
LOL. Move to Russia, you War Losing Racist Coup Loser.
Sounds like you've been to an Asian restaurant where the host is the only Asian

Nice content! Is there an email I can contact you at?
I worked for this company and the pizza restaurant was a complete front, they never wanted to be a successful pizza company they just wanted to sell off the technology, and we wasted so much food it was sad, throwing away hundreds of pizzas a night
If Zume was truly as bad an investment as Theranos, why didn't Alex and Julia have to face the music like Elizabeth Holmes?
@@luislongoria6621 zume didn't endanger customer health
Why did you have to throw away so much pizza every night? 😢
@@RudieObias because they were pre made, and we had to throw away the ones we didn't sell
