    Dude was just a normal luthier for 20 minutes and all of a sudden he's Les Claypool forgotten master? Talk about a plot twist. Impressed I am.

    I get all my basses down to 4/64 at 17th fret; minimal relief, frets dressed perfectly, proper nut file so theres a business card between string and 1st fret , proper bridge setup and intonation...they play like buttah.

    Hello Gary got my G2220 in Torino Green. Man what an absolutely beautiful bass. Incredibly low action! Gretsch did a fantastic job on build quality and how it was packed for shipping. Happy Thanksgiving my brother! Do you have any UA-cam videos on your technique? Would be very interested. Thanks again!

    One of the things I love about life in general is when I learn something I didn't expect to learn...
    I broke my left wrist years back so I struggle with a lack of flexibility causing real pain when I try (atrociously) to play guitar and bass. Hence thinking about getting a short-scale bass just until I can develop either more flexibility or skill at getting around the fret-board. And then I noticed how high you have that thing strapped up under your armpit and instantly, with some air-bass sitting in my office chair in front of the screen, I can see how that will alleviate a HEAP of the pressure on the back of my wrist and carpals! So you may have saved me some buckaroos :)
    (Who am I kidding, I love retail therapy so I'll no-doubt end up getting a short-scale if only as a temporary step)!
    This is just one of many reasons I love UA-cam and appreciate the content that people like yourself post. Thanks for your efforts, good sir!

    What a great video, I read are all the comments about your playing towards end, before seeing it. You’re a beast in the bass! I wasn’t taking too much notice of these Gretsch bass’s until today.. these look like a great deal for the price bracket… there’s a dark red for sale close to me, which I may try and grab!
    Cheers for the video! New sub here

    bought one of these when they first came out, same finish, this is one of the best guitars I have ever owned, play it all of the time, I use Laney guitar tube amps, a 15 watt VC combo, also a 30 watt LC, for the price this is one of the best guitars I have ever owned, I no longer play my electric guitars, a Fender made in Japan blonde Tele and a 61 Gibson SG reissue I now just play my acoustics, a guild and a Paul Brett Statesboro 12 string.

    The constant AC noise would be easy to deal with using Izotope RX or a similar NR product that uses a noiseprint to remove offending sounds. The AC does compete with your voice a lot.

    I've been looking into Short Scale basses lately for that lower tension, and this Gretsch seems like just the ticket to try them.
    I have an... interesting left index finger. The first third was split with a hatchet when I was a kid, it's a little tender at times, arthritic as hell, and is just a general inconvenience with bass. And as I get older, it gets worse.
    I struggle fretting on 34" sometimes, especially the lower frets. So I gotta wonder if this would help me.

    • @gdenyer
      @gdenyer  Рік тому +2

      Hi Michaela!
      For me, I play a light gauge string, so I tend to go with either DRStrings or Fender Strings.
      For the Gretch short scale, I usually go with the following (they are very reasonably priced):
      Fender Electric Bass Guitar Nickelplated Steel Short Scale .040 - .095, 5250XL
      www.juststrings.com/fnd-5250xl.html?cmp=nextopia&kw=fnd-5250xl
      Hope this helps!

    People say its "pretty good" for what it is, i only play the finest ibanez has to offer and thats the btb series i have 7 of them, but this bass plays insanely good its going in the arsenal as a go to. Thats how good it is after a setup and flatwounds. And how quiet it is!! Wow. Gretsch is all i play for guitars except 1 godin for some western swing. This bass does amazing for country.

    Very thorough review!
    I’ve got this little guy (in the lovely Torino Green finish) and am thinking about how best to invest my time and money vis-à-vis upgrades.
    I guess step one is to shield it…
    As a luthier, what would you recommend beyond that? Is it worth replacing the tuners with something nicer? What about actual humbuckers (TV Jones makes a nice set, but for the pair it’s another $300).
    Would love to hear your (and others’) opinion.

    • @12cmf
      @12cmf Рік тому +1

      I like mine a lot. The tuners were junk, but Licensed Ultralites dropped right in. Some don't like the pickups, and some have been disappointed to learn that they're single-coils (they were advertised as mini-hums until a few months ago). I like them, but need to shield things at some point. Beyond the tuners and perhaps shielding, I'm happy to just let this cool little bass be itself.

    • @fraliubass
      @fraliubass Рік тому

      I like my Jet Bass,Torino Green. Shielding should be a good improvement. I'm also thinking about rewiring the control setup. Installing a tone knob where the toggle switch is and having two separate volume controls for the neck and bridge pickups.

    ,hi ,thanks for this just bought one today . my first bass guy in the shop says I should get round wound strings for it , what do you think ,thanks ,where in Scotland are you from , I'm from Glasgow

    • @gdenyer
      @gdenyer  Рік тому +1

      I would go with round wounds. Get DR Strings, or failing that, stick with the rotosounds. Play a slightly lighter gauge on a short scale, and remember to get short scale strings.. I am in South Florida now for the past 29 years. I was born in Dundee.

    • @yamansitar
      @yamansitar Рік тому +1

      thank you,,he was telling to get thicker strings as I thought that the E string was a wee bit flappy which I kind of like the flappyness 50 -- 105. size
