Are we forgetting that Australia just put a whistleblower in jail for exposing their war crimes in Iraq? I don't think he's much safer there either.
Yes he is. The difference is one was a soldier inghe armed forces. One was a journalist.
Now I'm not an enemy of David McBride at all. But he comparable to Chelsea Manning or Edward Snowden.
One of which has been Pardoned and the other still persecuted and living in an enemy state due to persecution.
Australia is by far. In every single way. A better place to be a journalist.
And even better to be a whistleblower... We do not kill or put people in solitary for non violent crimes.
Julian was possibly facing death or 137 years prison.
The Australian government are the people who got him freed
Sorry for nitpicking but wasn't it Afghanistan not Iraq or am I misremembering?
That one racist demonic freak who stole a prosthetic leg of someone he killed right
@@drunkpaulocosta9301no Australia just sends out journalists off to countries who will put them in solitary confinement for us

@@idkyet3573yeah that’s not his fault man. It’s the fault of Democratic Party for picking Hillary when they could’ve gone for Bernie
Sad that they forced him to admit charges that he isn’t guilty of
I'm just glad he's free and I hope he is safe
Sort of. He said he felt the charge conflicted with the first amendment.
well he did release the data. it's just a shame that the hundreds of war crimes he uncovered were never investigated to show a desire to pursue justice instead of just the whistleblowers
He’s absolutely guilty of the charges levied against him. He’s no Chelsea Manning or Snowden.
@@fuzzjunkyreleasing the data isn’t a crime. He instructed people without security access to hack into servers and provided materials to do so. Notice WaPo and The Guardian didn’t go to prison for the Panama Papers or the Snowden Leak. He also directly coordinated and consulted the Russian government to strategically release the Clinton campaign emails explicitly stating which documents to omit and which documents to fabricate. The idea that this is some sort of hero or is the same as an actual whistleblower or mere publisher of whistleblower derived documents is straight up nonsense.
Plot twist: Assange released and flies to Australia as planned on a Boeing. Plane mysteriously crashes/disappears over the Indian Ocean. The End.
If it's a boeing, it's not a mystery
Did Assange ever release the Republican emails they had but withheld during the 2016 election helping Trump get elected?
@@idkyet3573Did Hilary that week get asked by Julian's team for a pardon? And her reply to that was to openly joke/ask if they can just drone strike him in the embassy?
You mean that Hilary who conspired with Julia Gillard to keep Julian in prison and abandon his consular help?
You mean the Hilary who he told the truth and exposed how her and the entire DNC rigged the election Against Berne(Someone who would have freed Julian ASAP if elected)
You mean the Hilary who literally cost America 4 years of Donald Duck just because she didn't have the pride to take a backseat to Bernard Sander. The democratically voted winner of the Democratic ticket that year.

This is actually terrible that he was forced to plead guilty over something that he had no buisness being being charged with. The DOJ now has precident to charge people with something that should never be considered a crime.
EDIT- 1. Do not get me wrong, i'm glad hes free and able to see his family. 2. Honestly suprised Hasan didn't even touch on the fact he had to pay for his own charter flight to "plead guilty"
Who is the traitor here? The ones who are engaging in and covering up acts that the American public would disapprove of? Or the person who blows the whistle on said acts? To me, there is no greater traitor than one who betrays the trust and good faith of the broader American public
He did neither. He simply published leaks as he is protected to do under the first amendment.
But being Australia we don't even have freedom of speech and he is still protected here to do the same.
You don't need a constitution to do the right thing by your own citizens
It's illegal to leak. Not publish leaks.
Always has been. And the person who leaked to him has been free for years.
@@drunkpaulocosta9301Australia has freedom of expression.
Sets a bad precedent for national whistleblowers. Happy he’s free, but the future looks dark 🙃
I mean, look what happened to the 2 from Boeing. You think the government is doing anything about that? Lol the precedence was already there for sure
@@dangerxbadger2300 they don’t care unless you make it their problem, which it now kinda is. It’s wide out in the public eye, it’s now about whether or not the public will act accordingly and pressure their seats. But we are still stuck on dumbass wedge issues and purposely so.
He was already jailed for 5 years left to rot in solitary confinement with no precedent and don't forget the fake sexual harassment case they pinned on him threatening a prostitute to falsify her accusations.
Assange looks like he’s 65, no denying these years in confinement and prison were hard on the dude. You can see it.
Chelsea Manning cured my transphobia. That’s not a joke btw. Even when I was a conservative weirdo I didn’t hate trans people because that would require me to hate Chelsea Manning, who I have always seen as an American hero. Now that I’m a liberal I have way better reasons to not hate trans people but that Wikileaks saga was kinda the start of me growing out of some of my conservative viewpoints.
That's truly fantastic. Outgrowing any sort of ignorance should be celebrated! One small note, liberalism isn't the opposite of conservatism, leftism is. Liberalism is part of the problem with America's 2 party system and what essentially makes the democrats merely controlled opposition rather than a true alternative or force for progress. Idk how long you've been watching Hasan, but if you're relatively new, keep watching, keep learning and remember at the end of the day, material conditions will always matter more than optics and capitalism is at the root of all major issues in the western world.
that's dope! turn up!
i know exactly what you mean. i was still years away from acceptance at that point, but she was one of the earliest counterexamples i knew of to what i'd been conditioned to think being a trans person meant, who at least helped me to temper my self-loathing somewhat.
I love this comment! Normalize changing your mind!!!
I dont like her because she was a soldier lol. But im trans so I was never transphobic to her.
I know it's not the same but man I miss Chelsea, she was a friggin great guest and I haven't seen her since her appearance with Hasan on Ukraine forever ago. Is she still hanging out in chat and stuff? Despite the horrors she was subjected to she remained hilarious, intelligent, fun AF and so friggin entertaining.
I hope she's doing well and I can't wait to see what she does next.
It’s wild how The Guardian literally did the screw up by releasing the files with the password in a book and Assange got charged with releasing it and endangering spies and assets when it was the guardian writer who was the one who did it when they released their book
Screw up? Or just easier to leave the legacy media outsider twisting in the wind?
This is something that gets brushed over all the time. The media did a really good job protecting their own.
David Leigh, former editor of the Guardian and Blithering idiot is the one who is responsible for the unredacted release of the embassy cables. You will never hear this mentioned when people criticise Wikileaks for dumping unredacted leaks and putting people at risk.
let's hope Assange doesn't fly in a Boeing
Whatever you think of the man, it is asinine that we threw away the morality of our judicial system to get this guy.
He exposed the Truth and he was punished for it. I am happy that he is finally free. Again, whatever his opinions are, I will always remember him as a champion of freedom, just like other brave people like Snowden, Manning, etc. They ruined their lives to give us a glimpse into the machinations of the states, and for that they will always have my admiration and gratitude.
Thinking our judicial system has ever been moral is kinda wild, ngl
The 3 dislikes are from the CIA podcast boys
Valofaukis came out hard on people who abandoned by Assange and Guardian are the ones that didn’t redact

Needed this good news tbh
I noticed that most of these cases use days instead of years to make it more confusing to figure out how long he was in there, but over a thousand of anything is ridiculous.

Thank you for this video ❤
We Australians are Happy that Assange is back! FREEDOM BABY!!!
No good deed goes unpunished. Glad he finally is free.
as a journalist this case could have set a truly terrifying prospect. Regardless of how he obtained the documents it was important for him to share proof of war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan and I cannot believe how badly he has been villified for it. Journalists should never be arrested for exposing state or government crimes.
So are charges forthcoming on Bush?
He's home.
People always forget this "journalist" stopped being a journalist when he only leaked about Shillary and not Trump once Bernie was out in 2016. And then even more so when he was DUPED into thinking Sean Hannity was reaching out to him in DMs, AND WAS EXCITED TO TALK TO SEAN HANNITY. He was a journalist, and that's what they're going after him for. But please stop forgetting what he became, and enabled.
As a publisher, what material did Wikileaks have in their possession on the Trump campaign that they didn't release?

Hopefully the Aussies pick up their sacks and don't 'cide him.
Aus gov is celebrating this as a diplomatic win, right after they jailed another whistleblower (David McBride) who'd exposed Aus warcrimes in Afghanistan. So its a bit all over the place.
I think Assange should be safe, the real risk would be from foreign agents. He has the Olof Palme issue, of making too many enemies.
I'd be surprised if Albo hasn't asked Assange for an autograph. I think he's safe here
@@hjf3022apparently Assange gave Albo props. But hey, let’s look over there at the Assange win, and forget the fact that Albo literally bent over and let Josh Frydenberg walk all over him on Sky over “Anti-Semitism” a few weeks ago. 🙄
Imagine the billable hours that took
I kinda despise the entire concept of leftists calling people “traitors”.. to what? To who? Traitor to the country, as in nation state? Traitor to the people? The constitution? I’m not saying nobody is ever “a traitor”, in general, but it depends on who/what you’re talking about, and in general we need to be really careful with throwing that sh!t around, and need to interrogate the concept.
💯
Class traitors (of both the capitalist and proletarian classes) is a concept leftists, communists, and workers need to be aware of and not afraid to embrace as a part of the reality of politics when it comes roles played and actions taken but yeah, being a traitor to a bourgeois (read: any) nation state is only ever a boon to one being a part of the communist/socialist movement, even if they ultimately do not associate or belong in the movement otherwise.
Finally this over and that's good. Good for Assange. He paid a price but made a difference. As an aside, Hasan really needs to stop abusing Adderall.

Shouldnt the people who put/gave the info on Wikileaks be in trouble if anyone?
Is the audio fucked up or is it just me?
"traitor to america aside" and also the sexual assault allegations why do people dislike Assange? Genuinely curious as I havent followed anything on him past wikileaks and his general state of being since.

Great news
Considering the weight of the charges, he got a good deal.
He's no traitor, but is a rapist (allegedly) . People seem to forget that the reason he was holed away in that Ecuadorian Embassy was because he fled rape charges in Sweden from 2 different women. The Swedish government have stated that the statue of limitations have passed and have dropped the case, but we should be doing our best to investigate the allegations here in Australia.

The Swedish charges were dropped because he successfully fled the country. His excuse for fleeing was to avoid extradition to the US by staying in England... The US hadnt even built a strong enough case for attempts to extradite him till over half a decade after that all happened. We will never know if hes a rapist, but every single one of his actions and excuses implies his guilt.
That doesnt mean he should have been dragged back to the US for whistleblowing, that whole case was an absurd violation of basic journalistic practice and it is shameful how the mainstream press pretty much universally abandoned him despite the far reaching consequences of what the US has done. Hell its likely they only dropped the charges because the chilling effect is in place. Who the hell is going to want to publish more information when regardless of where you are on the planet or the importance of what you are leaking the US can torture you for years?
Assange is an abusive narcissist and the US are oppressive war criminals. Both things can be true.

@@VeSpEr7iNe I think in this case it's because Hasan is a bit ableist and he doesn't like Assange's autistic traits.
Why do you dislike Julian Assange?
The basic mistake you make defending what he did in 2016 is thinking it IS ok for a journalist to only report 1 side and be horribly biased. That's the American in you. All our media is that way. But it is NOT journalism. PERIOD. Take a step back and rethink that.
Why didn't Assange find info on Trump...
Trump had never occupied a public office until 2016, what was he gonna investigate about him? The Apprentice deleted scenes? lol
Hmm maybe WikiLeaks publishes material that folks give to them. Julian Assange wasn't snooping around the US with a Sherlock Holmes hat on looking for clues. Don't be salty that your corrupt candidate got exposed. Be salty they were corrupt.
HE SNITCHED TO GET A DEAL 👿👿👿
calling Julian Assange a libertarian is insane wtf Hasan
how? did you see the platform he ran for senate on?
Libertarian is what I'd call it closest too, though nothing fits neatly, he's not fighting for no regulation. His central idea is that markets work best with information, therefore organisations should all be transparent. And he also seems to have a focus on personal autonomy. Seems fair libertarian to me.
For all the good he did, he also outted his sources leading into the 2016 election, and his cache drop against Clinton was a major reason people voted for Trump. Like, let's also not forget that. What Wikileaks did prior (like Iraq coverage) was a wiki accomplishment, the latter was Assange. These are 2 different entities we are discussing
I wonder if he had any reason to dislike the dnc. Maybe something to do with a former president being mad he uncoverd drone strikes.
@ThePapazero So the logical solution is to make allies with Trump? The man who said Snowden should be executed and that we should drone stike "terrorists'" families? Your logic is he empowered this guy cuz the DNC wanted him in prison/killed, and that makes sense to you?
Which sources?
@hjf3022 back in like 2015-16, Assangs became distanced from Wikileaks in anticipation of his arrest. During the interview cycles for the Clinton leaks he outted sources on live tv. It was pretty shocking and was also kinda why Assange got estranged from the Left during those years
