Your playing legit makes me want to be better at guitar. Absolutely stellar, every video. Love the riffs and jams, so much better than blues licks you see elsewhere!
Missed this earlier but aw man, thanks so much! Lol I've got nothing against blues rock players (most anyway, lol) but glad to bring some more "alternative" stuff into this space.
Really intrigued as to your whole process. Particularly how you lay the drum tracks. Do you do these once you have your riffs? What do you use for them Any tips?
Sure! I use EZ Drummer for pretty much all of my drums and have for years. I also drum so I used to write all the drums myself from scratch, though lately I've made a lot more use of pre-made MIDI loops/grooves. Makes it a lot easier to get something started with some kind of stock groove, then I just edit the parts to better fit the riffs as needed, and also add some more detail/nuance to the drums. As for whether I start with guitar or drums, it's usually guitar and the pedal kind of informs the style of the song, but a lot of the time starting with drums and maybe even bass can help get ideas flowing.
oh dude, I love it! Feels great to play and is super versatile. I actually helped put this model together with Mark Johnston and Andrew from Ambient Endeavors as a collab with Balaguer-it was made to be ambient/post-rock oriented guitar but their Evergreen humbuckers absolutely rip with dirt/fuzz.
@@ambienttrash5234 lol of course you three are my faves! That is so cool. I was looking at their artist roster and damn is it impressive. I’m glad you’re happy with it! There’s nothing like a new guitar day that goes well.
@@ambienttrash5234 Hahaha! The influence is definitely there. 😉 I love how filthy this pedal can be. My list of pedals I want to have isn't getting shorter. 🙈
thank you! I'll be making a new comp of this year's tracks soon as I have time, but I have an older one of 2020-2021 stuff at driftingthing.bandcamp.com/album/start-somewhere-demos-2020-2021
Best demo channel on UA-cam.

I love my WTSE pedal but having the drive separate really is a dream come true.
Love that white noise option
Matt.. im such a fan. Your playing and tones really have been inspiring to me. Keep it up!
Aw man, thanks so much! Really means a lot to hear that
Those are beautiful riffs man. I forgot about the pedal.

LOVE your Balaguer! They seem pretty reasonable for how great they look and sound. It fits you style so well, how do you like it so far?

Somehow I have to think about Saosin hearing that track. 😄
probably because I'm a HUGE Saosin fan lol, definitely a formative band for me back in high school and the influence still shows now and then
