Land Rover 5.0 Liter - Timing Chain Guide Problems - Part 1

The Timing chain guides begin to make noise and prematurely wear out. First symptom will be a rattle or click noise on cold startup. Problem will progress until rattle is constant and fault codes are thrown.
We go over some of the audible symptoms and more importantly the fault codes associated with the timing chain guide issues.
The timing chain rattle will be worst when the engine is cold and immediately after startup. Several factors can influence the premature wear and the expression of the timing chain noise. Items such as oil change intervals and oil viscosity will influence the timing chain noises.Timing chain guide wear is inevitable due to the physical materials which the guides are constructed from. This wear will progress until the rattle noise is constant, engine ECM will throw faults and reduce engine performance.
