It is always amazing to watch a true professional at work. Don't care if they are mending socks or building an aircraft. Just to see how well a job can be performed is a joy. Another awsome video. 🍻
Love this content and can't wait for the Launch, this is the only channel where you don't have 1000 so called experts trying to tell you what you didn't do right or what you did wrong. With the Expert there they can't refute his information, I LOVE that.
The boat is coming along so well and things are coming together so we’ll make sure we don’t miss a single part of this restoration inside and out a absolutely loving this Chanel 😊😊
I just bought my first Rv. It had a cracked skylight with water damage all around it and I opted to fill the hole with a patch that I learned from these videos! Thanks for the content
We have been watching for quite some time. So very proud of you for how far you have come. The boat is looking great. I'm so glad your friend is there helping you. Keep your chin up and keep smiling! You are a great inspiration.
Enjoying watching you living your dream and look forward to you sailing and exploring again and also this stage as well. I admire people like you who go for it and chart your own course.
Huub don't forget to utilize your protective gear when grinding on fiberglass it's not worth having breathing problems later in life especially when you have it available on sight. Good progress working those repairs I hope you're getting more done each week then we're seeing. On the channel. Currently It doesn't look like a months worth of work yet but who knows. It looks like good repairs are going on and you're plugging away at it so good work. She'll be in the water soon enough.
I dying to fast forward all the work that you need to get done and see you on the seas. Yes I know you have to do it and you’re amazing since I watched you build your own home. But hurry up and get it done because we are here to see you two sail
We just found your channel. Great content. We are also fixing up a boat ... although its a power boat. Same principals apply... Like fiberglass, trying to make your dreams a reality etc 😊 Goid luck with your projects. You'll be back in the water in no time!
They are probably commercial tailoring scissors... they are made to last as long as you don't cut glossy paper . They also do pinking shears for cutting without fraying fabric edges. Zigzag cut .
Having used fiberglass in the past, when you get done it will look/be like new. Imagine trying to fix this boat if it were made out of wood. So much easier in fiberglass.
Is your buddy paid or volunteer help? Mighty nice of him. As much as he's doing,it'd be hard to pay for. He makes glassing look simple, but it's due to experience, I'll bet.
Those stainless welds have too much heat in them. The sugaring effect occurs to stainless steel when too much heat is used during welding. Sugaring is when the nickel and chromium are burned out of the stainless steel and that is what provides corrosion resistance.
Use a Mason Line en span it horizontal against your boat so you can see your gaps, it always fallows your boat body line. You can even use Mason Line for boat Fairing so the layers are even en not sticking out
One more step to splaching. Ruff repairs is more to get them strong then good locking. And when you depend on that the weld will take the load then look is not that important. Cant whait to splaching. ❤❤ From Sweden.
Has the original owner commented at all on your work efforts? I think this would have been uneconomical to accomplish without friends. The power of DIY and determination shows strong here. En zijn jullie nu bijna uitgepraat? :-)
There was basically no new glass even touching the old glass to get a bond. Is there more layers to come? You can't just glass over the core without making sure to get a bond between the new glass and the rest of the hull. It will be a weak spot forever the way it currently is and be prone to cracking and leaking with such little overlap. I'm not sure where you got your fiberglass guy but he really seems to cut corners on having strong bonds from the repairs to the hull. He did slightly better on the keel but not much of a bonding area for that either and its worse on the keel as that's where there is a lot of stress on the hull.
Maybe do the welding yourself next time as you couldn't possibly do it any worse. I hope the 'welder' who did do it paid you something for allowing him to practice on your boat!😅
What grits do you guys use when sanding? Also: why do the patches only barely cover the holes instead ofe expanding outwards onto the hull for additional support? It seems like these patches keep the core's strength on the core edges.
A great video when you have boat done is "cost' cost of boat +materials and your helper vs buying one already done. vs buying same boat and paying someone else to get to your same level.
Epoxy is better for repairs because it does not shrink and bonds better to polyester than fresh polyester on bonded old polyester. But there are also two teams of opinions.
After seeing that huge rivet gun I wonder is there any tool that you don't currently have and Did your first mate bring all of his tools with him or did you buy all new tools? As I watch your vlogs all I see are hours and hours of dirty work but in a very beautiful location. Looks like your boat is getting closer and closer to being in the water. Thanks for sharing.
I see. You can't do it in one step because of the short time you have to work with the Epoxy. Just ask because I have a similar thing to do on the bottom of my laminated keel at my Hallberg Rassy 38. No big deal but I like to repair it good. ;)
Your stainless needs to be handled differently. I don't know the English phrase but the welding needs to be treated with a sour paste and water afterwards in order to wash down all mild steel elements from the surface. The welding changes the structure of the steel, the paste restores the surface. There are also other non toxic ways to do this nowadays. Sanded only the steel will corrode before you're back on the water. And sanding stainless must only be done with tools for stainless. If you have used them for mild steel before, they will throw particles into the stainless surface and corrosion will start again. Another comment on the overlap of your glass layers, any layer should overlap the other by about an inch or 25 mm. You have put 3 identical on top of each other. And if you had a table next to the hole, put the camera onto a tripod, you could reduce the stress down to zero.
It is wonderful to see the progress you are making. Your home has wonderful character and is unique.
Boat is coming along fast ! The catamaran is a huge upgrade from your old boat ! I can’t wait to see you sailing again and living your best life.
yes! a huge upgrade!!!!
What a pleasure watching this man work his magic......a stone cold professional 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Hubb is very fortunate to have such a talented friend willing to help him (in the middle of a hurricane destruction zone!)
You're very lucky to find this good man with all his knowledge to help you with all the repairs.
It is always amazing to watch a true professional at work. Don't care if they are mending socks or building an aircraft. Just to see how well a job can be performed is a joy. Another awsome video. 🍻

I have learned so much about how to do fiber glass repairs correctly from watching this series. Thank you, Huub and friend.
The Design King is doing a fantastic job!
Rolf is a BOSS. Interesting process.
I don't know how you are doing this job, but you seem to be one of the perfect people for it.
The boat is coming along so well and things are coming together so we’ll make sure we don’t miss a single part of this restoration inside and out a absolutely loving this Chanel 😊😊
Huub you're doing a great job. I've been watching you since you were building your little house before Lemonada. Nothing lazy about you. ❤😊✌️
I just bought my first Rv. It had a cracked skylight with water damage all around it and I opted to fill the hole with a patch that I learned from these videos! Thanks for the content
I'm happy to hear that!

Good info Huub. Thanks for taking the time to document your work.
You're very welcome!
Just one word Brilliant. Excellent work by you both
Good work Huub! - most sailing channels would take 4 years to do that much work :)
Enjoying watching you living your dream and look forward to you sailing and exploring again and also this stage as well. I admire people like you who go for it and chart your own course.
You are a good guy Huub!
I for one am sure .cannot wait to see the finished product... but so saying, the journey to get there is everything that makes it happen:-)
True!
You are sure blessed to have your Dutch buddy and his glass8ng knowledge!! Good luck!
Stoked for all your progress!
Great video. Editing is really good, Music too. The guy helping is amazing.
Coming along very nicely and very great work! Looking forward to your next video, thanks for sharing Huub and your friend!
Good glassing videos I have learned a few things.
I love the sound of fiberglass drying in the sun,
We have a Maxim 380 also so it's interesting watching you bring yours back to life. Great work and we love the sugar scoop extensions!
Great how to on filling holes in a boat! A must watch
Het belangrijkste van een las is de stevigheid, dat het niet mooi is zou ik me geen zorgen over maken. Het schiet mooi op zo👍⚓😊

So happy "WITTNESS ME" Road Warrior reference. If you know you know. Thanks
Looking good there guys well done wont be long now
step by step great vid 👍
Love the work and the speed of your results.
You are a youtuber of posh style..using GOLD scissors for cutting the fiberglass! :)
They are probably commercial tailoring scissors... they are made to last as long as you don't cut glossy paper . They also do pinking shears for cutting without fraying fabric edges. Zigzag cut .
hahaha!
Great show👍👍
Great job Guys!!
Die reparaties zien er goed uit Huub.
Je hebt mazzel met zo'n maatje 👍.
Having used fiberglass in the past, when you get done it will look/be like new. Imagine trying to fix this boat if it were made out of wood. So much easier in fiberglass.
I have one of those rivet guns that I've had since the 60s and still work's perfectly after putting in probably a few 1000 rivets
good progress well done
Good videos as always. 👍

Mooie oranje sokken in die teen slipperts😂 heerlijk. Jammer dat de videos zo kort zijn. Kan hier zo 2 uur naar kijken.
Hubb 💞Rolf
Looking better every show . I missed it how are the engines ?
There is an Extra Slow hardner from West System.
One more step to splaching.
Ruff repairs is more to get them strong then good locking.

Thanks Herr!
It’s all about matching colors 😂
😂

yes he has!
❤ Rockin Roll ❤
nice one!
Yep, it's so obvious. It's all about matching colours...
Goed Bezig!!
Filling the holes.

👌 Cool
The big patch kind of looks like South America!
Good job! But the music is nerve wrecking!
👍
Lekker bezig gozerrrr
Great work again.
Are the repaired parts as strong as the other parts or will there be some impact on the structural strength of the hull?
they will be stronger
Nice work boys!!
Maybe do the welding yourself next time as you couldn't possibly do it any worse. I hope the 'welder' who did do it paid you something for allowing him to practice on your boat!😅
❤❤❤
what is the benefit to cutting the repairs into irregular shapes instead of squares?
Good progress! Any plan for Daniela to visit? 😺🥳
What grits do you guys use when sanding?

Why did u use peel ply over the repairs?

Anybody else miss that cutie pie Dani ❤? How’s she doing?
Yes that’s why we are here
Thats why we where here. @RichardTavilla
@@shredderhater love your name JesusChrist alphaOmega . Amen to that.
@@RichardTavilla Yes she is missed but at the end she looked home sic and sad...does she have her own site on line...
@@shredderhater Craig I have no idea. Just waiting for them to get back on sea
Huub, did you already explain why you are using epoxy instead of the polyester the boat is made of for the repairs? Just wondering!
Epoxy is better for repairs because it does not shrink and bonds better to polyester than fresh polyester on bonded old polyester. But there are also two teams of opinions.
Best adhesion to polyester 1) epoxy 2) vinyl ester 3) polyester
it's too hot in the caribbean to work with vinyl ester
After seeing that huge rivet gun I wonder is there any tool that you don't currently have and Did your first mate bring all of his tools with him or did you buy all new tools? Hi Chuck! Yes, he has those tools :)
Just a question, why the matting is not overlapping the existig laminate in the shafted area? Or is this comming next?
Coming next week
I see. You can't do it in one step because of the short time you have to work with the Epoxy. Just ask because I have a similar thing to do on the bottom of my laminated keel at my Hallberg Rassy 38. No big deal but I like to repair it good. ;)
So close to splash.

Cutting stainless rod with the grinder is also wrong as it's too hot, the rust will start immediately. Use a handsaw
True, but in these conditions you have to work with what you got!
@@intrax2tv But not at the cost of immediate corrosion stains on the grp. A metal handsaw should be the easiest to get.

Huub, what disc do you use for cutting and griding the old glass?
Special diamond disc for fiberglass and for grinding mostly p24 grit discs
