Thanks for the video! Just bought a new to me Stihl and it was hard to start, had to keep throttling it to keep it running. I followed your instructions: Ran the L in and backed off 1.5, ran H in and backed off 1.5, IA backed off 1. Cranked right up then I fine tuned L and backed off the IA til the chain stopped, tuned the L again and lowered the IA. The H was spot on and runs great! Thanks!
I can't seem to get my 250 to rev out, the idle and low speed are adjusted nicely, but it bogs and dies in the high range. Pretty new saw, I have tried fresh fuel and spark plug with no success. Any ideas?
My ms250 was built in 2012 and the HIGH adjustment screw only has a 3/4 rotation for the entire adjustment. Amy ideas why I can't adjust it 1-1/2 turns out like you did in the video? Damaged carb maybe?
Some of those screws have a plastic collar on them to limit the adjustment.believe it or not it’s an EPA dictate.break them off and you’ll have full adjustment
found the problem I have a new ms 250 in my country it does not have an L stop and when I leave it at idle it also turns off when I move it suddenly to the sides as if there was something loose inside the carburetor that makes the mixture richer I tried to regulate in L and I can't
thanks .same problem.. finally decided to take off those jet limit doodads . after removing carb , cleaning it . removed jet lastly . carb cleaner , blew them out.. bazinga/ nailed it. got to remember to drain gas.. this is the problem. tried that fix it gas .. nah ..tim the toolman.. retired .
I picked up an ms250 the other day, won’t idle, as soon as I pull the trigger & it clicks off high idle, the rpm’s drop like a stone till it shuts off if I don’t keep it running
@@machinesnmetal Thanks, I ordered a carb off Amazon, I don’t know what else to try, it runs like a champ except not idling, was rebuilt a few months before I bought it
Maybe if you use it more than any other saw but otherwise no it should use an average amount of fuel compared to other size in the same engine size range.
hello, I am not sure if you are still here but I will leave a comment, I have a MS 250 Stihl chainsaw, I only have one question my saw dies when it is just idling do I adjust the L screw not the la screw right?
Do both or all three to do a proper tune.it only takes a minute.the idle speed screw is the very bottom one.once you get to know your saw you’ll know right away which screw needs a tweek
Why do guys leave their saw so freaking dirty.take few minutes and clean it a bit it’s no wonder they don’t run right.even some compressed air and blow the crap off if you can’t take it apart.
If I cleaned everyone's saw that I worked on, I'd still be sitting there cleaning saws, not making videos. Generally the shop isn't responsible for cleaning the equipment, sometimes we do it if requested, and charge. But most of the time, that's left to the customer to do.

Nice work! You are the mechanic now 🤠
Turn the screws until the video stops shaking. Then I found the sweet spot. 😆😆
4 dimensions video baby
Best carb setup tutorial for the ms250. Mine doesn’t have the emboss instructions on the motor housing, so I was clueless. Thanks for the help.
Thank you for posting this video. Very helpful.

Try replacing the fuel pickup line?
@@machinesnmetal I could, but the saw is less than a year old and has only been used a few times. Still think that would be an issue?
@@bellofello1old fuel left in the carb if it sat unused for a while will mess it up big time
Rebuilt carb. Still wouldn’t stay running so stick new carb on. QUESTION. Should the chain be spinning when in idle?
It should not.
That's what the 3rd screw is for, idle speed

Does it still have the plastic cap on the adjuster screw?

Thank you ! :) That was sooooooo helpful.
😃
Thanks for the video, but I do have one question. You didn't mention the default setting for the idle screw adjustment?
Idle speed is just fast enough before the chain starts turning.

Starting off, where does the 3rd screw be? Fully in?
Just enought to keep the saw idling without spinning the chain.

Thanks! It worked great. 🇺🇸👍
Glad it helped
Thank you so much for this... you saved me a trip to the dealer.
I dont understand it
Nice Video. My 2015 ms250 has been running ok but I burn spark plugs almost every 10 hours of work. Any idea what could cause that? TKX
Maybe the carb is running a bit lean, or your mix is lean
I picked up an ms250 the other day, won’t idle, as soon as I pull the trigger & it clicks off high idle, the rpm’s drop like a stone till it shuts off if I don’t keep it running
It might need a new diaphragm pump in the carburetor

My high adjustment does not turn that much. Did you remove something to get that amount of adjustment?
this saw has a knock off stihl copy carburetor, so no limiter caps to deal with.
@@machinesnmetal and... what to do re limiter caps pls?
@@daveoseas you remove them with pliers 👌
Same problem here with my HIGH adjustment. Only turns 3/4 rotation no able to turn it 1-1/2.
Is it normal for the saw to be consuming more fuel than any other saw?
Maybe if you use it more than any other saw but otherwise no it should use an average amount of fuel compared to other size in the same engine size range.
@@machinesnmetal ok thanks for the info I was cutting up some rings and I had to fill it up about three or four times with fuel Inc the chain oil

I have ms 250 2004
Over heating so much how can i resolve this?
maybe your cooling fins / flywheel area are plugged up with sawdust? Could be running tooooo lean as well
how about the la screw?
That screw presses on the throttle, it mimicks squeezing the trigger ever so slightly to speed up the engine
What about the idle speed
Turn in the LA screw until the chain starts to move, then turn it back until the chain stops.
What kind of screwdriver do I need for adjustment ?
Small slotted
Nice vid came for the tool need, too much saw dust in the way still ✌🏼💚🙏🏻
Thank you.
Need to redo and refer your back out and turn in to rich or lean
It requires two different screwdrivers?
no, same one for both.
Thanks
Do all 250s have no limiters?
only after you take them off the stihl carb, but if it's a nock off carb usually they don't have limiters from the factory
Never run a engine wide open without load. If you do rev it ,you don't hold rev's
There's a chain load on it. Enough to set it up.
