I wasn’t sure if I should release this video, because of the unfavorable light and sound circumstances. But, I thought it might be nice to release something outside of the studio.
Please don't worry about it. I don't even notice and it really doesn't matter to me. I like the informality. For me it's more about the content and personal presentation.
This causal dial in reveals how most of us make our coffere at home everyday. I'm sure quite a lot of us got the ECP after watching your youtube review. We then save the money to buy more nice coffee beans! Thanks again, Tom 🙏
I picked up the ECP 3630 on sale at my local Wal Mart for $144 cad and then got all the accessories (bottomless portafilter, wdt tool, scale, better tamper, puck screen). Then I purchased the miicoffee DF54 and I find it to be an amazing grinder. I’ve been having fun buying beans from a local roaster and playing around with the settings to hit that 30 second shot sweet spot. Thank you Tom for your channel and all the great info you put out!
I appreciate this video from outside the studio. I have considered buying a less expensive machine as I currently make my coffee with an Aeropress. I have years of experience as a Barista and I was concerned the lower priced machines would be a letdown. I may consider buying one now.
Good job making good espresso in a cheap machine! Many of us or waiting and saving up for more expensive machines when we could be getting good espresso with a budget machine!
Love this, I purchased a ECP3630 and a Baratza Encore ESP per your recommendations (received it like 2 days ago) which was a huge upgrade from my Neo Flex + Manual Hand Grinder - your content is the best in getting people into espresso without breaking the bank
Thank you so much for the videos you make. I appreciate them greatly. You put out educationally relevant information in a relaxed and informal way. Keep up the Great work! ❤️
So timely. I just bought a ECP 3630 this past week at Target (on sale and with a $20 gift card) and have the same Barstza Virtuoso+ grinder. The 3630 is better built than i anticipated, after years of using a Rancillio Silvia. For a boiler machine it heats quickly. I've set the grinder at 2-3 with still fast running shots even with the pressurized basket. Waiting for a metal tamper and tegular portafilter this week. Terrific real world video.
Awesome! The 3630 is a little nicer than the 3420, for the metal sides. I saw it at Target too, and was tempted to buy it. 👍🏻 Enjoy! Just make sure to use freshly roasted beans, if you can.
Hi Tom. I just ordered this machine along with many of the accessories you recommended in the full review. After much research I am excited to try this set up you have come up with. Few questions, do you always cool the machine in between shots? Will that harm the machine? How long after cooling is it ready for another? Thanks!!
You have to cool the machine after steaming, as it's too hot to extract an espresso, and you have to replenish the water that was used up for the steaming. Cheers!
Hey Tom, Thanks for the informative videos-they really help me out as a beginner. Is there a recommended pause time between shots for this machine? If I run two shots back-to-back continuously, will it affect variables like pressure and temperature?
Hi there! It shouldn't affect the pressure, but the temperature could be affected. As you draw out the water, more is added, and it needs a little time to heat up. Also, you need to wait 60 seconds before removing the portafilter after the extraction, as there is too much pressure still on the puck. Cheers!
I haven’t seen this boiler cool down technique anywhere and it’s not mentioned in the documentation. Is it necessary each time? I purge the water from the wand before steaming milk, and again after steaming with machine still set to steam, but I haven’t tried switching to running water thru the wand…
I bought the ECP 35.31 quite recently based on the recommendations and user videos (incl. the yours). It'll need practice. Do not expect perfect results instatntly. But 2 days (and 400 grams of coffee) later I managed close to good dosing and timing. Considering the price of the machine ($200 incl. the accessories as screens etc.) and good mill (K6 Kingrinder which can grind even too fine for $150) the results are very impressive for such a barrist beginner like me. If the coffee is your hobby and you're on the budget for the stuff it is the must have item. If you just want coffee clean, fast and with less possible effort than avoid it. It is not for you. Stay with moka pot or go to the café.
Great real world video. Learned a lot and I’ve been making lattes for 10+ years on my Pasquini Livia. Lots of lessons that took me years to learn on my own.
Thank you. I bought this machine after watching some of your videos about it. My machine is ecp35.31 (white color). I am windering that if i could change the steam wand of this machine into a pro wand or not. Please advise. Thank you very much.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Yes, portafilter cleanup, and inspection of coffee puck. After extraction with my Flair, the puck is dry - all the air from the machine comes out last, not pushed through the puck earlier to create fake crema foam. This gives me good insight into how the puck performed and any channeling that happened. BYW, there is a particular type of channeling that I have not seen discussed on a channel, but is very relevant to puck preparation, the effectiveness of WDT and the amount of extraction achieved. It is easily discovered by inspection of a dry puck.
It’s always a good idea to cool down the boiler after steaming. But the main reason is that you want to replenish the water that was turned into steam while steaming. Since the pump is not on during steaming, the water level goes down. It’s important to replenish.
I’m so confused on what the difference is between this machine and the stilosa. They pretty much look the same almost. Same interface. Same wand. Also what kind of portafilter is that? I’m looking to upgrade the one that came with my stilosa
I have the ecp and I bought a bottomless portafilter for it, but no matter what I do I can't get it to stop spraying. I use fresh beans, a wdt tool, screen and tamp it. I try to be consistent with about 15-16 grms coffee. Any suggestions?
Mine does that too. Bring the cup up higher ( I’m using a scale) and it won’t splash as much. There’s probably a shower screen tweak, but elevating the cup or propping it up on something helps reduce the splatter.
I've been dosing 16 grams since I got the machine, I've gotten confusing extractions, it seems like the tamping pressure is too sensitive these days. Not sure why this is.
Since the ECP seems to be a boiler machine, I wonder if you can gagguinofy this guy. If so, it would make for a crazy budget pressure-profiling monster! ^^

Very natural! Works well!

Agree with Simon and Ace. Don’t worry about it. I didn’t even think about it until you mentioned it. Content was more important.
We feel very comfortable watching this video in real environment👍.
@Rick-xb4nr Thanks so much for the feedback, I’m pleasantly surprised that people like it. ☺️

Haha, thanks to Tom, I did the exact same thing after our 4th expensive Delonghi super automatic died in 2 years! Loving the ECP3630 and DF54 grinder!

just bought this machine today because of your review, thanks mate 😊

Nice video. Wish you had shown cleanup for completeness.
You mean portafilter clean up? Or something else? I’ll have to consider it in the next vid.

Hi! Whats the best grind settings with a hand grinder for this?
Hi Tom
Is it necessary to cool down the boiler if you’re not going to brew another shot?
Thanks

Since it’s summer and a good time for cold drinks how bout a video on making shakeratos and Freddos?
I’m so confused on what the difference is between this machine and the stilosa. They pretty much look the same almost. Same interface. Same wand. Also what kind of portafilter is that? I’m looking to upgrade the one that came with my stilosa
They are ALMOST the same. The ECP has a nicer shower screen, as in bigger. You can also add an aftermarket one on the ECP, but not the Stilosa.
@ thank you sir
Great video! I also love your mod videos. Do some mods on the micoffee apex or turin legato, (same machine)
Wie viel Millimeter hat der siebträger. Ich möchte mir einen bodenlosen siebträger extra holen

Hi, which one is better overall the sage bambino or the delonghi ecp ? Im confused which one to get
I like the ECP better, honestly.
I've been dosing 16 grams since I got the machine, I've gotten confusing extractions, it seems like the tamping pressure is too sensitive these days. Not sure why this is.
If your dose is the same, I feel like bean roast freshness makes more difference than tamping force.
Since the ECP seems to be a boiler machine, I wonder if you can gagguinofy this guy.
If so, it would make for a crazy budget pressure-profiling monster! ^^
You probably could, but I’m not sure about mounting a thermal probe. I’m not sure if there are threads for that on the boiler…anyone else know?
Now all that remains is to install the pid controller in delonghi...
I can tell Tom is not American--his English is too good.
Actually, I am from the Midwest. Cheers!
