I visited the museum at West Point, NY in 1981 and 1982 with my Grandfather. He took a lot of pictures when we were there. I was twelve and thirteen when I visited West Point and the museum. I found all the pictures he took of those two visits Christmas 2023... didn't even know I had them they were in the attic in bags. My Grandfather was a retired Army Officer in the Connecticut Army National Guard. Got his commission at Army OCS at Fort Benning, GA in 1950. One of the pictures he took was a German STg 44 rifle at the West Point museum...the original "assault rifle." Cool museum I wonder if it has changed a lot.
Excellent video! Love West Point. Fun fact; the red coat originated from England's second civil war. The Royalists were outfitted according to the taste of whoever raised them, parliament wanted a more uniformed army. To inspire unity and camaraderie but also with ease of identification when it came to melee. Red was the cheapest dye available at the time, so red it was :) nothing to do with hiding blood or anything (doesn't say this in the video) Just cheap. Come 1812 and the Napoleonic war is was all about fashion. Red stuck up until the second Boer war when soldiers started dying certain parts and also staining the white foreign service helmet to a tan colour. A word for dirt (Persian or such) was Kak/Khak. Hence Khaki. Awesome museum, loved my time there and learned loads. My favourite part was and is, the Civil War section. Loads of big names from West Point, amazing history.
I drove 4 hours on a Saturday in mid November 2023 so my family could spend some time here..Arrived at noon to find it closed with a note on the door..."Closed for the day, sorry for the inconvenience"...
Where are the coins from the time capsule? That's what everyone wants to see. That time capsule was opened about 6 months ago. This video was uploaded 1 month ago. Why is West Point being so damned lackadaisicalt about those coins? We want to see them.
