      Gracie definitely understands what Graeme said, and she looked a bit upset, tossed her head and flounced off!
      The video when she was first there and Graeme mentioned he may not keep her, she reacted with a shocked look as if to say Dad! How could you do that?! 😆
      She's very perceptive and great at expressing herself. 😀 😍

    Another delightful clip for one of your newbies! There's something about Gracie - she really speaks to me of my own little mare who has her quirks, opinions and personality that I'd never trade for the world! She came to me 7 years ago unhandled and nervous - each moment with her was something new. It was slooooow and quiet, steady going with her - but her trust blossomed. With things she didn't know about or understand, after a while she began to give me the "okay, whatever" look ("if you think it's okay Mum, then I'll be fine") :) She also says "well seeing as you're here, you may as well be scratching my butt".... I'm looking forward to the links you've added, even though I'm still making my way through all the others. Thank you so much for what you do and how you communicate :) And hope it's okay that I've shared a little of the story of my princess Peachy :)

    Just love this! I wish I could go back many years and do a "do over" with the horses I had until I married. I wasn't rough and they certainly showed me comradeship. I just missed so much and feel I didn't live up to my part of the relationship. Raised on a wheat and cattle ranch in Eastern Oregon. 18 miles from town and the school bus couldn't go fast enough some nights to get me home to have time to ride. One of my horses was was trained in Western Pleasure and Cutting. A 4-H project of a young cowboy who lived in a neighboring area. My cousin bought him as a smart, calm gelding to be with his race horses. I always had people coming up to me asking if he was that horse ___ owned. One day as I unloaded him he decided to turn around and walk out head first. He gently pinned me against the side of the trailer with his large body. He turned slowly and all the whole I was a bit miffed asking him why he decided to do that. He stood at the top of the ramp, looked over his shoulder at me. As if he was saying, "You're coming aren't you". When I left for college far away we sold him to my cousin to use. 2 years later I took my future husband home and we went out to see him. My dad drove his 1957 Chev Apache pick-up. As we pulled up by my cousins house we heard a loud nicker. Down off the hill at a fast gallop he came. The other horses came, too. He ran into the huge round pen going in a large circle. He jumped and pranced raising up quite sight. Then he stopped and calmly walked over where I sat on the top rail. I put a hackamore on him. He sided up to the fence and I got on. He was 18 hands and I'm 4'11". We galloped out into the fields. It was very sad to leave him.
    I just subscribed to your channel I admire what you are showing us. Oregon has its own breed of wild horses. Down in the SE corner of Oregon in the Steens Mt.s They are the Kigers. They have specific markings and their blood line traces back to the royalty horses of Spain. They are in the battle of their lives. Accused of ruining the grass and streams by ranchers with government contracts to run cattle there. BLM rounds up the herd groups once a year, puts them up for adoption. Thing is not many people are adopting now because of high fees costs, etc. Horse advocates say those left unadopted are seperated from babies, loaded onto big 3 storied cattle trucks and taken to Canada or Mexico to be slaughtered. The babies left to die at the stockyard are rescued,if lucky, by advocate groups all over the States.
    It's heartening to know there are people such as you out there.

    I just love the way you talk about the horses, like Gracie, for instance. I'm more used to dogs (I used to be around horses a lot more, but I'm a little rusty) and I have a soft spot for the ones who are "not easy to love". That goes for people too, I used to work in a closed psychiatric ward and for some reason I ended up being "responsible" for the young men, above 6 ft tall, that couldn't take a simple "no". At the time I was in my young twenties. We understood each other somehow. They trusted me. My best friend passed a little over a year ago. She was a German Shepherd/Malinois mix (not recommended) and we were a team. She could decide that a plastic bag flying in the wind was the scariest thing she'd ever seen but she trusted me, hence respected me (in the good sense of the word). I miss her like crazy - and I do want to connect with horses again. That silent connection.

    • @StableHorseTraining
      @StableHorseTraining  2 роки тому +2

      ohhh, I'm super sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. That must have been very hard. Horses are very easy to connect to as they are hoping all the time to be able to connect. I have a feeling you'll have a very easy time opening that door to them :)

    If you were round the corner, I'd be there brush in hand. Lena is just my sort.🤗🥰 Be pretty embarrassing if it was a joke huh? Mind reading horsey; Priceless. Do you sit and wonder, should you be in control more, directing the show? And then laugh because horsey has great ideas for fun? And how when riding alone, you are never alone? My mind reading horse used to make jokes🤗and we'd both laugh🙄😁🤭🤣. A very precious sort, I think. I love how you love your rag tag crew. Cast offs, but perfect 🌟for you.

      We don't have a barn here other than the little one in the middle. What kind of tour are you thinking of that isn't this video? If you're wondering what kind of barn to get, I've done a few videos about hay storage and making sure to heat the tack room... I think I did one about having a stall prepared for an injured horse... but that's probably about it.

    • @StableHorseTraining
      @StableHorseTraining  2 роки тому

      Thank you Sheila for the question, I appreciate that. There are three options at the moment you can consider if you'd like. The first is the membership here on UA-cam. If you go to the main channel page ua-cam.com/users/StableHorseTraining and hit the "join" button, it'll let you choose a level to subscribe to. This is akin to Patreon: www.patreon.com/stablehorsetraining Where I do my best to give back by providing extra videos and answer questions directly, sometimes via video. The next option is over on our store: stablehorsetraining.com/shop/ where you can contribute via buying something or just making a donation here: stablehorsetraining.com/product/help-support-b-c-wildie-horse-rescue-and-training/ Markup on products is very low, it's nice when people want something for sure but it doesn't provide much here other than some good-old-natured love for the business we run :)

    What do you suggest for someone with a child who wants to have a horse/ride. I have minimal horse knowledge. I cleaned stables, and road here and there when I lived in Utah. My cousin in law has horses so my daughter has been on a guided ride.

    • @StableHorseTraining
      @StableHorseTraining  2 роки тому

      Depends on the age of the child. Anything under 6 is going to be the oldest quietest horse on the planet if possible. Something that doesn't get worried at all and you'll have a hand on the child at ALL times. Trust me.
      Older than that is where the child can actually pay attention to instructions. An adult should be very near, perhaps leading the horse. Older than 8 can have a bit more leeway and 10 to 13 or so a bit more.
      That all said... I highly encourage you to not ride until the child (and you) understand how fast and dangerous horses are. It's why I put up so many videos about horse behaviors so that people can see what they do and how to get used to catching things before they happen. It's always the "I never saw it coming" crowd that are hurt the most. When I teach kids (or adults) here, we go through a few lessons on the ground. Leading, driving and understanding how and why horses do things, this is to prepare for the inevitable of a horse getting worried and jumping around or something. Or even just plain wandering off to do whatever they want. We tackle all that on the ground where it's safer and then ride when comfortable.
