I remember watching this when I was probably around 12 or 13 years old when it came out. I remember being blown away seeing Super Mario 3 in the movie. Super Mario 3 wasn't even out yet in the United States and back then we didn't have internet like we do now to know about it. Also seeing the other kid bring out The Power Glove to play Rad Racer made me think "The Future Is Here!" Ha Ha! Now we know The Power Glove was a garbage gimmick but it's funny to look back at these things.
This brought back many memories, that Sega Master System II with Alex kid game, was my first and only console. I bought it along side with my brother, with our own money that we won working weekends with my father, I will never forget that.
Restoring those retro gems is a absolutely pleasure. That is my joy. Weather it's consoles or cartridges. Brought a megakey for the Megadrive back to life again and felt so happy cause it has so much history attached to it. Love your channel. Please restore a sega cd 2 when you can.
Got to be the MegaDrive next. I remember when i got mine as a kid and it was utterly breath taking. Playing F22 Interceptor it was like having an Arcade machine in your living room. The graphics were next level. I modded mine to get Stereo out, and plumbed it into my parents HiFi system which livened things up !.
I got my first Megadrive a couple of years ago. The inside is so clean, looks new. It has a special port in the back that outputs to a yellow video and I think left and right cable. It did not come with that cable so I made my own by looking online what the wiring is suppose to be. The output is much cleaner than the coax output.
I remember one xmas early 90s I recieved a super nintendo and my younger sister received the sega master system 2 and lets just say seeing my gift compared to hers she was not happy and I must admit the smug look on my face did not help lol, my parents knew nothing about games consoles but did take it back and got her the mega drive, lets just say she was very happy after that
@@missionpassed4584 feel sorry for your parents, mine would have never given such expensive gifts. Then the horrible feeling of a gift not appreciated. Very uncool.
Nice job, I think restoring has become a bit of a past time. Mostly, today games and systems are just thrown out when they age or become just plain 'old'. Thank you for keeping these systems alive.
love your work, i am also a retro game lover. i dont have many, but mostly old windows pcs and a litte bit of game consoles and handhelds. love to see more restores and what ever about retro games! keep up the good work, girl power! greets from holland
0:44 top left shelf. I got that very same shark toy for Christmas when i was like 8. So much nostalgia watching your videos, Kari! You’re an old soul. Bless you. ❤️
Great video Kari. Just a piece of advice, as I'm in the screwdriver business well over 30 years. Those screws might look like Philips 1, but they are most definitely Philips 2. Always test the bigger size of screwdriver -or bit-, you have first and then go to the smaller one. You'll be surprised of how many times you will use the bigger size, not mentioning the fact that if you put the right screwdriver, you get a tighter grip and you reduce the danger of damaging either the screw head, or the screwdriver/bit, or both. This applies to every screwdriver, either it is an allen, a torx, a Pozidrive, a Philips, even a slotted one. And if you come across a stuck screw, your best option other than using penetrating oils and lubricants, is to use the right size and type screwdriver AND press it down as hard as you can while twisting it, so that you avoid the skipping that makes the damage. Cheers.
automatic like when Kari uploads a video! seeing this on Sundays feels like a good way to close off the weekend, thank you for making these videos Kari! Greetings from Georgia USA
Another great video Kari! The Master System 2 was my first Master System, back in 1992 (purchased by my grandmother) - it was the Alex Kidd variant as she also brought carts of Sonic 1 and Castle of Illusion.
I love the things that (fellow) autistic creators get excited about. my hyper-fixation is learning, so videos covering topics such as this really get my goat. Great job, Kari!
Top stuff, I recommend either a RGB scart mod or the composite mode and the 50/60 Hz switch mod for the model 2, I prefer the RGB scart mod over the composite mod, its the best output the system produces and looks freaking amazing
Cool video! My favourite Master System game is Master of Darkness. It is a Castlevania clone and the closest to the original that 8-bit Sega systems ever got. I would love to see you do a rgb/scart mod for the first Mega Drive edition. CHEERS!
oh my god I literally spent last night fixing my old 16-bit Mega Drive 2 and I remember I had the original and i culd not remember how it looked was going to google one but forgot now this pops up how perfect
In Brazil that model was the Master System 3. The MS2 had the same shell as MS1, the sole difference being MS1 came with Duck Hunt while MS2 with Alex Kidd (which I had). I DO remember the MS3 coming with Sonic, but I don't remember if originally it came with Alex Kidd and then there was a "special edition" with Sonic or if all units with the MS3 came with Sonic. Either way, it wasn't really that rare. Fun fact: despite being a PAL country (Pal-M) consoles ran at 60hz instead of 50hz. Which let us have access to Americans and Japanese games as well.
Sega Master System 2 had the best Sonic ever! Nothing can beat it. When I was a kid I wanted to see what is inside and cracked it and threw it away :( What a shame. Love the console
Definitely an improvement. That water was surprisingly gross after you cleaned the case. I just bought a SNES, and I've been hesitating to remove it from the ziplock plastic bag it was shipped in, since it's so filthy! I'll have to make some time to give it a similar treatment to your Master System during the Christmas break.
I begged and begged but never got a Master System 2 nor a mega drive after 😢 too expensive for us back in the day! Had great memories playing James Pond on my friends one though!
My siblings and I had the Sega Master system 2 back in the day. Preloaded with Alex the Kidd. When we got bored there was a weird thing we used to do with the console pause button. I cannot remember if it impacted cartridge games but we use to keep spamming the pause button on Alex Kidd during scene transitions like menu to level, entering doorways to new areas, transitioning between the end of one level segment while wrapping into the following segment. It used to cause some odd graphical glitches in the game. Fun memories. Some Master System classics. Donald Duck: Lucky Dime Caper. Mickey Mouse: Castle of Illusion. Wonder Boy. Shinobi. Asterix. Sonic 1, 2 and Chaos. Almost forgot California Games, Golden Axe, OutRun, World Soccer and Sensible Soccer. Played those last two a lot with my school mates.
Nice restoration! The SMS 2 was my first console. Well, you asked for recommendations about games to play, so you ABSOLUTELY need to play Wonderboy III, the Dragon's Trap. It's a masterpiece :)
Good Work Kari! A good console selection, maybe the most dificult to repair, is the Atari, the ICs RIOT and TIA, is common these ICs dead. Good Look and I stay tunned!
Good idea 3D printing a strain support for the controller connector. I probably would've just used a two part epoxy under the connector, but your solution is better. Keep up the good work. 👍
Chances are at least one joint would get cracked over time without some kind of support. I was recently working on my SMS II and added a power LED. Quick and easy mod.
I used to play alex the kidd in miracle world so much I think it's impossible for me to forget the rock scissors paper combos for each miniboss. And the order of boxs in the final game challenge puzzle. Ultima 4 was probably my favorite, the cartridge was a bit different than most in the respect it had battery backup memory to keep your saved game alive after you turned off the console.
As a recommendation, look into using heat-set threaded inserts with your 3d prints if you need to screw something into them. Will definitely increase the effectiveness and longevity of those parts.
