Here is a brief translation of the video. I have only started learning Japanese and still make lots of mistakes, so please let me know if you find any error or emission :) [0:00] Greetings everyone, this is Matsusue from Bonsai Suishoen. This time our black pine, after decandling and leaf thining, will finally embark on the pruning process. Many among our audiences, either beginners or intermediate level, sometimes get confused when trying to prune pines. Even for those who has reached professional level, during a demonstration you might feel "Ah I see. So that's how it's done". But then later when you sit down by yourself in front of your bench and try to do this yourself, you feel instead "wait a minute, what ...?" Such confusing times are pretty common. So we hope to provide some guidance and reference to those occasions through this video. Let's start now. Thank you very much for your support. [1:04] Now let's start the pruning process. The first important thing when it comes to pruning, is to decide the main branch among everything that is poking out. The most important branch ...[start pointing with scissors] here is a branch and here is another... is the thickest branch. This is the thickest one. It extends into this central one here. [1:31] Outline wise, we want to keep it along thi----s line, shaped like a fan. If we take a look we will notice these really large extending branches here. We want to trim this one back. Notice that there are no buds back there. Therefore I would just cut it off right here. [Cut!] [1:58] Now notice this one at the end here, there is no bud for quite a stretch. But there is a bud back here, a new one, a side bud ("wakime"脇芽, literally means "armpit bud"). If we leave this branch here this armpit bud will wither and die. Therefore we keep the side bud here and cut off the rest. [Cut!] Leaving this one and this one here. Starting from here, we will move across the pad and continue trimming. [2:36] Now we move over here. We already know that the easiest one is the one that extends the furthest. This one underneath here has extended quite a lot. Compared to it friend hidden slightly deeper here, this one has extended further, while its friend has extended less. Therefore we leave the one that is shorter and cut off the other. [Cut!] [Also just cut off this pair of old leaves that's been bothering me as well...] [3:09] Here is a rather short branch here. Under here, this small one. We would like to trim this one back as well. Therefore it is this upward pointing branch's turn this time. Mr. Camera, can you see? There is its friend under here, and there is another side branch here. Because the positioning of the other two branches, this one on the top will keep extending. Therefore we cut it off. [Cut!] [3:48] Now our attention is caught by this long branch here. There is a shorter one by its side. The one that I am cleaning up using scissors now. If we ask which one of these are shorter, it is clearly that one. Therefore we trim off this one here. [Cut!] [4:12] Next we move over to this branch, here. See this branch... can you see this branch... [shuffling stuff around] Alright, here. Like this. There are, one, two, three. Three tips. If we compare it to the existing branch nearby, we notice that there are replacement branches on the left side. After comparing these branches at hand, we realize that that one is shorter. Therefore I would make the cut here. [Cut!] Notice the pad has already cleared up by a bit. [Clean the paper and put it back.] Let's keep going. [5:12] Now we observe the outline again. Notice the one that we have already trimmed. Although we have trimmed it once, the remaining portion is still sticking out. Even after wiring it will still be too long. Therefore when we notice the short bud up here, we decide to cut off this lo---ng branch right here. [Cut!] [5:39] Overall, I tend to take a look and notice the longest branch in the view, like this one on the end here. Like this pair with one long and one short branch. In this case, we cut off the long one. [Cut!] Also this pair here, two branches. Which one is longer? This one is longer, hope if you can see it well. This one is longer and that one is shorter, aren't they? Therefore we cut off the longer one. [Cut!] Let's also clean up the stubs a bit. [6:34] Now we have this pair of branches here. It is okay to cut it, it is also okay not to... Maybe we should just leave it alone. But if we would like to compactify the branch, then we would leave the other bud and cut this one off at here. [Cut!] Like this. It has opened up a quite a bit, hasn't it. This the gist of the trimming process. [9:14] Okay, so we have just finished pruning the entire tree. Starting from the initial decandling, then leaf thining on the lower part, we finally finished shaping and pruning. Hope we helped clarify the entire process. In the future, we might want to make some small adjustments, such as wire the drooping lower branches upward, or to lower these branches a bit. Now is a good time step back and take a look, from which angle is the trunk most visible, is this a good front, or is this angle better? Small adjustments like this becomes much easier after the foliage has been opened up. If we decide on a new angle, then we will adjust the shape of the branches and the leaf pads accordingly as well. If we can make the crown smaller, then we can make the trunk seem thicker. So that is all for today's video. Thank you very much for watching!

Koji, the tree looks much lighter, now you can see the branch structure and trunk clearly. Thank you.
長い枝を切って
短い枝をのこすかんじでいいんですか?
Would English sub titles be possible please?
