      Himmler definitely has an eastern Slavic look. Large numbers of people who identify as German have Slavic ancestry. I'm talking about before WWII. A lot more Slavic blood came into Germany after the war. It's estimated a couple of hundred thousand children were born to German women and Soviet soldiers in the postwar era. Most of the fathers were of Slavic origin, many were central Asian or even far east Asian origin. I once met a German woman who looked east Asian. My initial impression was that she was Korean or Japanese. She told me both her parents were German. I saw a picture of her father who looked east Asian. After talking to her a bit more I discovered that her father was born in 1946, in the Soviet occupation zone. I didn't ask her anything else about it.

One of the officers makes a comment about their youngest member (who serves as a training cadre to those who'll listen) as their "Hitler Jugend member". The latter goes red in the face, and the captain orders him to play some music, specifically "The Tipperary song, if you please!" Heinrich Himmler, wanted the glory of being in the military, but did his best to not get tossed into the meat grinder on the front lines.
    He did his best to become an officer at the start of his military life. But he didn't get as high up as he desired.
    Dodging front line bloodshed and death, he kept to the back lines, reserves units and continued his schooling.

      The problem is that drawings and paintings aren't judged on accuracy (photorealism) by the arty farty crowd. For them it's all about feelies and deep meanings.
      Therefore, you can have a very competent artist (like the ones you see who can do such a detailed pencil drawing of an animal, you'd swear was a black and white photograph) but they're dismissed in preference for daubings by loonies, all because of feelies.

      I agree that there's little point in most art now that the camera has been invented. It's fine for doing artist's impressions of what a proposed development might look like, or to illustrate a history book etc, but other than that, little need for it. If an art gallery were to burn down, very little of any importance would be lost apart from portraits of historical people or places for which no photographs exist.
      Now, don't get me wrong, if someone has the skill to paint proficiently, accurately and realistically, and they can then dupe people into buying daubings then good luck to them. Caveat emptor!
      However, if (like many) they don't have that ability in the first place, then they're just frauds.
      The test is to tell them to draw a horse (not the easiest to do). If they can do that for you and it looks like a proper horse, then they have earned the right to run the "art" con on the gullible. (so long, of course, as they don't expect public funding to do it!)

    Honest question Mark, but would the Nazi party not be left wing, seeing how they were socialists, and do mirror a lot of the aspects of today's socialists? I have followed this debate here and there, but it's not often a fellow gets a direct line to someone with so much historical insight (your channel is absolutely fantastic by the way).

    • @entertheabzu
      @entertheabzu 3 роки тому

      The terms are meaningless at this point. You could argue Soviet Russia was right wing too, if nationalism is what drives that 'diagnosis'. If it's Civic VS Ethnic nationalism then yes, I suppose the difference is there. But yeah, the terms seem meaningless or at least misused.

    • @High_Caliber
      @High_Caliber 3 роки тому

      @@entertheabzu Perhaps, but the concern overflows into the current-day argument which is a core issue in Western society... People running around calling anyone not on board with 'progressive' values a nazi, far right, etc, when realistically, they are indeed mirroring (in many ways) the tactics and edicts of Nazism, and I think the left-right moniker given in the form of education/history is perhaps purposeful, to make people forget that these were exactly the tactics used by the nazis to gain power. My town has a snitch line set up so that you can report your neighbours for 'mask violations' and they are trying to enact a wrongthink law (C-36), which again mirrors nazi Germany. I just want to know if it's purposeful mislabeling, or as you say, just a term being reversed and used loosely. With how in depth Mark gets in these videos (incredible depth really), I can't imagine he is using a term without knowing the meaning behind it, so I was just curious as to his thinking on it (I don't think he's a nazi socialist) :)

      He was a true soldier. Militaries have more than combat arms. He should've been proud of his military service if he thought Germany was on the right side of WW1. But he had a romanticized vision of combat and wished he could've seen it. Considering how he acted in training, complaining about the food and quarters, he probably would've gotten disillusioned if he went to the front. And he would've been a terrible officer if he had to lead troops in combat.
