Getting ready to bring home an F3S with 19K miles, so am watching and reading everything I can about maintennance, frequent issues, like tensioner failures etc. Love all your videos. A comment on your metric and SAE bolts, know that 1/2" SAE is the same as 13mm. Maybe there are other examples of different sizes, but you don't need a 1/2" wrench, if you have a 13mm handy. :-)

Another informative video. I put the smooth Spyder tensioner on when my bike was new and its built like a tank.

I have heard that the smooth tensioner is a better unit but for the price for an oem part I had to check it out. So far it works great we will see how many miles I can put on it!

Greatrydes BRP should put these on all of their models based on belt length. More choices are out now but when i needed mine it was only Smooth Spyder.

Your right the part is very cost effective and with how much a spyder can cost it would make the spyder a better bike!

Greatrydes round tires also go a long way for a smooth ride!!

Why the rust on the engine case? I would think it would be coated or galvanized...

Luck of the draw... some have vibration and some don’t. ‘16 F3 LTD SS and I don’t have any vibration, yet, at any speed. Even going over 100... I mean, if I ever went over 100, that is. 😂 Great to see what the fix entails. Great video! 👍🏻😎👍🏻

Thank you for watching. My vibration was not bad at all but for the price I had to try it!! Its amazing how well these things handle at 100 plus mph!!😉😉

My 2016 F3T had a shudder and vibration at about 68mph and varied depending on condition..hills, trailer etc. The shudder and vibration at any speed or condition disappeared after I installed the tensioner. I swapped out the oem roller that came with the tensioner, with a roller from LeMonster garage as it was larger in diameter with a stout bearing.. Money well spent...The difference is remarkable.

Shouldnt this tensioner be on the bottom of the belt???

Did you notice a difference with the belt tensioner on?

Makes me wonder why BRP did not install the tensioner as a standard feature?

It was a great upgrade and I feel it should be. FYI mine only lastest a year and about 20k miles before it came apart. I was lucky and cought it before it did any damage to the belt. I still recommend one.

Do you have the red dust on the front sprocket? If you do, the sprocket is ready to fail on you. Mine had the red dust and Wednesday I had it replaced under warranty. The splines of the sprocket were all chewed up. That's where the red rust dust comes from. The splines on the drive shaft were undamaged. The new sprocket slid right in. They could not get the belt aligned. Turns out the sprocket as it was falling apart had shifted and had caused the belt to wear unevenly. They had to replace the belt also under warranty. This is becoming an ongoing problem with all the bikes with the 1330 engine. The F3's with the semiautomatic transmission are experiencing the most failures. Love your videos and check your sprocket.

It was replaced at 20,000 miles and when it goes back to the shop for a small throttle issue I will point out again the rust on the side of the engine case!! Thank you for watching and great comment!!

I think it would not hurt. I was told they metal has to soft.

It's appalling to me that belt tensioners are not standard equipment. I recently looked at one from LaMonster garage that is supposed to be (their claim) better than the BRP unit. I may look into this after I get the Spyder back....today! The price is about the same.

I love mine it corrects a lot of vibrations coming from the belt. Good luck with the Spyder that's great news you're getting it out today. Ride safe!

@@spyderryder Got it! The fault code was fixed by replacing the DPS unit, apparently a problem in 2017 and early 2018 Spyders. There is still a whine that the service writer says is belt harmonics. I think I will soon be ordering a belt tensioner. It was a great ryde home.

I was surprised at some of the corrosion, i.e. fuel tank and bolts

    • @spyderryder

I ride all year and with all the plastics its hard to get everything clean. This spring I hope to remove a lot of the plastics to treat some of the corrosion!!
